- Though previous owner neglected, it never left me stranded or in danger.
- AWD transfer case, timing belt, not good on gas.
Purchased As Used
I wanted this vehicle in 2004 but bought it in 2011. I bought the Obsidian black, LX with all bells and whistles. I didn't get it inspected and later learned how badly the previous owner neglected it. While paying a car note I put about $5k into it repairs and scheduled maintenance. I tried my best to do right by the car but I didn't buy it as a project to rebuild it.
The timing belt is an expensive replacement at $900-$1200 and if you drive 30k miles or more a year you will be shelling this out every two years.
The belt and AWD is what made this an expensive car to maintain. It requires all four tires replaced at once @ $500-$800. The transfer case went bad which cost more to fix than the car is currently worth.
I'm at 144k miles and another timing belt replacement due at 180k miles I am hanging it up. So, this is just a review to give anyone considering an idea of what to expect. I gave it good ratings simply because for all the neglect and repairs it required, I never once broke down, not even with the transfer case becoming an issue, still driveable, so I know if the car was in excellent condition it's value could not be touched.
