Purchased As Used
This is my third year with my '05 Sonata (bought it used). Overall, for the price, it's a beautiful car that is a pleasure to ride in. Three caveats: has anyone else had electrical issues? When I test drove mine, the stereo system components didn't work, so the dealer installed an all new system. It worked fine until 1 year later, the cassette player stopped working. Three months after that, the cd player died. A couple of months after that, no more dash clock. The radio still works, but that's it. I'm waiting for when that goes, or the dash lights, etc. It's VERY annoying but I've asked and it's waaay too expensive to repair/replace. There's no jack in this year's model for an mp3 player, so this lovely, comfortable car that would be ideal for long car trips is reduced to flipping through a radio dial. Second, two years in, the braking distance on the Sonata still worries me in traffic, even after recently putting on all new front and rear brakes. It seems acres longer than that of the Nissan Sentra I drove for 16 years previously. I don't feel all that safe whereas in the Sentra, I was able, numerous times, to dart and weave out of impending tricky situations and stop on a dime. In the Sonata, "darting", "weaving", "stopping on a dime" are not words in its vocabulary. Third are the blind spots. I really do have to crane my neck all around and not rely on the side mirrors when lane changing and I have to open my door and lean out to look when I'm backing into a parking space, every time. I've bumped and scraped the car several times when I haven't. I'm in my 40's and have driven many cars in my day and have never had this level of reduced visibility. But it is a beautiful, tank of a car that my Mom even likes to borrow sometimes to drive on errands. It's a gorgeous seafoam green that receives many compliments. I may try again, with a newer Sonata trade-in, but I have these concerns now plus I really don't like the look of the 2010+ model Sonatas at all. Compared to my '05, they're ugly.
