- Great fuel economy, good on the eys
- Tranny could be easier to use

I bought my black '11 Sonata standard shift about 15 months ago, and have accumulated 15,000 mixed miles...The other posters here have mentioned the odd shifting of this transmission..I'm no exception..I've driven stick shift cars for many years and this one's a bit of a b--ch..I've acclimated to it...
However, I take issue with the lack of power...In the right gear for speed, it's a fast car.. I have driven to and from Myrtle Beach from here in NY several times, and got between 37 and 41 MPG. That's what the info on the dash says..Even if it's a few MPG optimistic, it's still getting more than the advertised figures..I get about 27 MPG around town..Nothing to sneeze at either...These figures were obtained by driving normally...not hyper-miling. The car drives straight and true, with a nicely tunes suspension..Not too soft, not too firm...The OEM tires (Kumho's I believe) really suck in the snow..I mean baaaad...Soon to be rectified..Tire Rack..New 18 inch rims and tires...Black sounds good..Love the look of this car , in and out..Overall, happy with it...especially for the price of $18.300..
If and when I buy another one, it will be an automatic...or maybe an Elantra..Love those little guys... dragonfly...read morehide

- Very good fuel economy, well options, price and looks great!
- Touchy clutch and a bit noisy
Purchased As New
I have had my Sonata for a year now and I still love to drive it. It has great acceleration and decent handling. I know some are complaining about the handling and acceleration but I just do not see it being that bad. Its very smooth on road too although you do get a bit more cabin noise then you would like. I love the six speed trans but I don't care for the clutch action. Its very touchy and makes you feel like you have to think too much about trying to be smooth and when you don't get it right the car jerks around like your some kind of a newbie at driving...which I'm not! I have got the quoted 35 miles to the gallon but I have to drive it like I want to get that. I didn't go by the computer ether I did the math to come up with the 35 mileage number...although the computer in my car does not seem to be too far off like others have complained about. In my real world driving I get about 32 Hwy and 23 City. Oh and I also do not get any kind of a pull or wandering to the left like quite a few have complained about. Actually the only things I dislike is the cabin noise and clutch action but what I like far out weights those issues....read morehide

- Good value for the money
- Somehwat "guttless" going uphill
Purchased As New
I got my 2011 Sonata GLS w/ manual in November 2010. I have driven manual for more than 30 years, all models. I also ride a motorcycle so I am used to drive manual. This one shifts weird from 2nd into 3rd like there's a hole. You have to work the clutch and the gas totally different when shifting from 2nd into 3rd then when shifting from other gears. I drive through the mountains every day and can't believe it has 198 PS, it's really guttless at the smallest incline. Shifting down early enough to the 5th or 4th gear doesn't seem to make any difference in performane like there's just "nothing there". Even my old Toyota Tercel EZ would increase speed when shifting down before going uphill, this one doesn't. The speed goes down, down, down until you finally make it over the hill. So far I have made it to 32 mpg which is a big difference to my Ford F-150 XLT of course. I'll guess I have to consider what I got for the price but the material that is used for the inside seems cheap. I wish you could get every Sonata model in either manual or automatic, not just the base model....read morehide

- Attracitive styling in and out
- very poor engine response!
Purchased As Not Purchased
Well, I like many am a Honda/ Toyota owner for the last 20 years. Thought, Hundai deserves a look, after all this is apparently the up and coming vehicle. On the positive, It does look very impressive on the outside and the inside is very comfortable and attractive too. The blue accent lighting is something that takes some getting used.
BMW, and Mercedes have had red interior dash lighting forever, and I got used to it. The ride was very smooth and comfortable.
I've always had one manual, be it Mercedes, Honda, or more recently, a Carolla. I don't care for transmission noise , which is very noticable in most 4cylinder cars and the Hondai Sonata is No exception.
The first objectionable things was the clutch, Way to soft, next to no resistance, literally feel no physical connection to controlling engine RPM. henceforth very difficult shifting. When you do get into gear, be it 1-6 the engine does not respond to the gas pedal,it lags behind by a couple of seconds. There is no way I could shift the vehicle smoothly . I thought there was something wrong but apparently this is the way it is.
Then of course is the power, once you get to move, I would never believe believe this was a 200 hp motor. It felt more like a tired 135-140 hp engine.
I saw the post before me, and I just could not help myself. I don't generally participate in this medium.
Yesterday I test drove the manual Camry, and Lx accord. The Camry was a pleasure to drive, solid and very comforable, just no glitz. The Honda Accord has nicer styling, if you can be comfortable in a extremely stiff seat and rigid ride, which has obviously been their trade mark. I now prefer the comfort of the Camry, since it will eventually see the 100,000mile marker, and still offer more comfort,( then the accord) even with a worn suspension system. Both obviously will oulast most everything else out there....read morehide

- Smooth on highway speeds
- Very weird position of manual gear shift, nowhere near 35mpg on highway.
Purchased As New
I got my 2011 Sonata GLS w/ manual 2 weeks ago. I have so far mixed feeling about this car after 2300 miles. What's bothering me most is that gear stick is very close and every time i shift from 1st to 2nd gear, i almost poke myself into stomach with my elbow. Gas is very jumpy and clutch is very touchy too. It's hard to drive it smooth. For last 15 years i drove over 1million miles with bunch of cars, almost all of them manual trannys, but Sonata's and 2006 VW Rabbit's i had few years ago combo transmission / gas / clutch are worst. Nothing close to Mazda's, Mitsubishi's or Honda's. Also handling and steering is below average. Computer in this car is lying by at least 2 - 3 mpg, but most people believe what they see and don't know how to check it manualy. My best was 30mpg on 90% highway driving like grandma, coz i wantet to see if i can make 35 like it's advertised. Hyundai cleverly advertising " up " to 35mpg, so i guess 30 is "up " to 35. If i knew this 2 weeks ago, i wouldn't buy it. Maybe automat on bigger wheels is better. I made mistake and now i have to live with it....read morehide

- Great looks, quiet, comfortable, nice handling
- Manual transmission only available in GLS
Purchased As New
I just ordered my GLS manual today; I had to test drive a GLS w. auto, because there are only two manuals in the state, but it will definitely be worth the wait. Even w. the auto, this is an excellent car; the manual will make it just about perfect! This is a rare combination: a comfortable yet fun car....read morehide
