2012 Hyundai Sonata User Reviews

- Looks good
- Large discrepancy between advertised and real in-town mileage
Purchased As Used
The advertised mpg for 2.0 Sonata is 22 mpg for in-town use (no driving on a highway). When I first bought the car, in February, I was getting 17-18 mpg. Now, in the middle of the North Texas summer, with heavy A/C use, I've been getting anywhere between 14 - 17 mpg. I don't drive with manumatic, my ECO is always on, and even though I like fast driving, I'm not a speed fiend either. The dealership hooked up my car to their computer and is saying that the results are not showing any mechanical malfunction.
Before the turbo version, I had a 2011 Sonata GLS and was always getting about 20 mpg regardless of the season. The rated in-town consumption for that car is 22-24, so my 20 was tolerable since it didn't deviate from the advertised one that much. However, the 30-40% higher mileage difference in the turbo car with an almost identical rated mileage is simply unacceptable and intolerable. Hyundai customer service tells me that my VIN number vehicle's consumption was rated to be accurate by EPA after similar compalints from many other drivers. Either they're lying, or EPA's tests are faulty.
