2005 Hyundai Tucson User Reviews
GLS 2.7 2WD shown
- $4,836 - $7,757
- cheap price, warranty
- issues abound
My husband drives a 05 Nissan Altima SE-R and we both love that car to death! I needed a car to commute, so I bought it with the sale going on. Now I have tons of issues with it and I always have to take it back to the dealer. Dealer told me I have a bad transmission and I have to wait for the part to come in (from Korea?) If it is imported, I have to wait even more. So here I am writing a review on Yahoo while my Tuscon sits at the dealer. I just wanted to say not to get your self into this mess. It's been a hassle!...read morehide

- Hyundai rep
While I like the new Tuscon - it is clearly missing two pieces of important kit:
1. Electric adjustable driver's seat
2. Driver's seat lumbar support
Add these two very inexpensive features, and you have the cute-ute of anyone's dreams.

- Runs great, makes Sweet Nancy "feel like a queen" driving it.
- 1st gear too low
We started shopping for a small SUV for Sweet Nancy with the only requirments she wanted was heated seats and a more upright, higher seating position vs. her Camry. I wanted sunroof and 4wd, just, well, because (guy thing).
We checked out virtually every small SUV on the market from Mercedes, BMW to Kia and gave them a pass/fail solely in entry/exit ease, seating comfort, and my head clearance w/sunroof. Surprisingly, the only ones to pass this simple test were Mazda Tribute, the Tucson, and the Toyota Rav4. ALL the rest either had big footwell lip, no head clearance inside, had to be a contortionist to get in/out, etc.
For our test drives of the final 3, I took a sound meter along for the ride to get db readings at idle, 30mph, and 60mph. Told the questioning salesfolk that it was a B.S meter and made the needle swing full range as needed. :) Anyhow, the Tucson was the quietest and Nancy liked driving it. Doesn't hurt that we saved 15K over some other brands similarly equiped.
With a month of ownership, we could not be happier. SN loves driving it, and she is not a "car person". Says it makes her "Feel like a queen". My only nits are that the seats are not as cushey as my full-sized van custom seats are and first gear is so low that you get a jack-rabbit start if you're not careful on the throttle and if you're pulling out to turn onto another road, when you let off the throttle to turn, it upshifts and 2nd is too much higher to get you going unless you mash the throttle to slam it back into low. Mileage is 20mpg at 70 mph hwy driving - which is ok by me for a 4wd vehicle w/decent power....read morehide

- Quality & Value: Cruise Ctl, Air bags, V6, Stability control, and "Korean" Quality
- Cloth Seats a bit stiff
1 week review. No initial quality issues. First Tank 19 MPG for suburban drive, Drove to St Louis (interstate) and got 22 mpg to and 23 mpg back. Better than my 05 Honda Minivan that promised 26 highway, and I only get 19. I am hopeful I will only get better as it works in.
Cruise Control is not on Steer wheel face, but is very easy to use. (More instictive than Cruise controls on my last 3 cars.)
Have White Car with Black Trim, which I think looks sharp, but dirt sure does show on white. V6 is plenty of power.
2WD because I live in Chicago Suburbs with plowed streets, If you live in areas with lot's of snow and it don't always get plowed, get AWD. Otherwise Frontwheel drive is all you need, unless you want to pay 1500 for prestige of AWD.
This car is only 170 inches long, versus 200 inches on my old car. It fit's in my garage MUCH better, than regular car. Lengths of comparables CRV 181, Escape/Tribute 175, Element 169. Sedans are about 190 inches. I am 6'2 male but I fit in this better than the larger Sante Fe.
Research Hyunday Quality, Days of Excel are long gone. The koreans have worked hard, and the 10y/100k warranty is the deal closer....read morehide

- Great standard features, safety features, price
- Could get better gas mileage
Never owned a foreign car before, but this one has sold me. I've had the car for only a few weeks, but no problems at all.

- Great Fuel Economy, Great View from windows, Very quiet on road
- No Cons here
Have been waiting for this SUV for since it was announced to come out. Love the Alpine Frost color even though Dealer had to go to another state to get it. This small SUV very functional, great that the seats fold flat and there is a rear power chrging unit. I have the GLS version and my dealer gave me full tank and coupons for next few fillups on them. Exceptionally quiet on the highway and great turning radius.
This is my 2nd Hyundai and do not plan on buying any other company in the future.
The EPA Mileage is estimated on the sticker, so will vary with each person. I personally increase tire pressure to max stated on the tire, use 100% synthetic oil and use cruise control alot....read morehide

- Very comfortable, Standard Electronic Stability Control, Smooth ride, looks
- Not so good fuel economy, brakes don't like to be pushed too hard
Overall, I think this is a very good buy for your money. Although, the fuel economy could've been better, it's an SUV, so I guess it's typical. The vehicle looks small on the outside, but when you get in it, you will see how roomy it is.
The ride is very comfortable and smooth. The engine is decent, but the V6 doesn't seem so fast. As I said earlier, I really like this vehicle. I hope I can get a good 125,000 miles out of it without any problems....read morehide

THEY ALSO LOVED THE 10YR/100,000 MILE WARRANTY. SO, HOW COULD ANYONE NOT ENJOY THE HYUNDAI TUSCON.

- Intelligent design and engineering, handles ice and snow very well, very comfortable for a compact
- Much higher than average emissions rating.
The GL version of the Tucson is the econo model but compared to about anyone else, it seems like a sport or luxury model.
I live in Alaska and have always owned 4x4's. But this baby, even without the advantage of studded snow tires, handles better on snow and ice than any other vehicle I have owned. The combination of antilock brakes and stability control system, makes it very hard for the Tucson to slip and slide even if you are trying!
It is very comfortable and safe to drive. I have an 8 year old child and this vehicle gives us more safety and security than any other we've drive. My daughter helped us picked it out and really liked all the features in the back seat, like the arm rests and the storage nets. The back seats recline extremely easily with one step verus two or more steps in other vehicles.
It rides quiet and smooth. Once I got in synch with the 5 speed standard, it handled very nicely.
We shopped and compared and this was head and shoulders above the rest of the crowd like Saturn Vue, Ford Escape, and Mazda Tribute....read morehide
