2008 Hyundai Tucson
There are 9 user reviews for the GLS 2.0 2WD trim shown below
- Dependable, Practical, opening back window, overhead rear door
- Looking at the car I believe the side molding that was on the 2005 Toyota would fit and wish there were an aftermarket kit to purchase. A valet key would be nice, along with a 110v outlet.Would be nice also if Hyundai would replace the timing belt with a timing chain on the 4 cyl.
Purchased As New
Bought the vehicle new and its still going strong. Ample power, dependable. 18,000 miles with no problems. Have gone to North Carolina several times and it has no problems takiing the mountains or passing uphill. Handles great, nice sound system. For two people with the rear seats down it will hold a lot of stuff. I installed a tow receiver and with a small trailer I use it to pickup items at the home centers, taking the yard tractor to the mower shop, or the delivery couches, dressers for the kids. without any noticeable loss in power. Don't miss my gas guzzling Silverado one bit. Front wheel drive handles snow well (changed OEM tires). Don't listen to the expert reviews. I don't understand those who buy a vehicle and then knock it. After looking at many vehciles, I test drove this model several times and rented one for a day. I decided on this because of the warranty, reliability, and price. The 14 gallon tank doesn't empty the bank account at fillups. Some say the tank is to small, but after driving 4 hours I need to stretch anyhow so I top off the tank. The mileage is good on trips averaging 26 to 28 mile per gallon. For me the difference in power with the 6 cyl. wasn't worth the extra cost in price and sacrificing a few mileage points. I also like the the rear door opens up and not to the side, the opening rear window is a nice feature. Brakes well. For the money you get a lot of vehicle without overpaying. Sure it may not hold a high resale, I keep most of my vehicles for at least 12 to 15 years so it doesn't matter to me what the resale is. Hyundai Tucson gets high marks in the reliabilty area. Also, I save $240 a year on my insurance before I even left the showroom because of all the added safety features. Very practical vehicle, for my purposes I'm satisfied with the purchase....read morehide

- 24 mpg city/27hwy: great stereo; great visibility; great cargo and seat roominess
- armrest not forward enough; pillar viewblock; can't use seatcovers-sensors
Purchased As New
Have owned it now 3 yrs, totally dependable, great handling, esp in rain and wind; nice dealership assistance and care; love it for gardening and shopping due to cargo area and seating and floor roominess; original tires, Kumho bald and need new ones however, will go touring tires for quieter and smoother ride. Just a great little suv, very happy with it....read morehide

- 27mpg in town, comfy, interior quality, quiet, exc. ride, XM Radio,
- Pillar causes a blind spot, no body molding, hard dash, spare under cargo area
Got the 4 cyllinder with AT & is sufficient, especially noticed the engine loosened up after several hundred miles & became more responsive. Very deceiving power...feels like it is going slower than it is, so smooth! Trim-GLS (did not want leather and did not like the cladding). Was surprised to get 27 in town and this last tank looks like I am getting closer to 30 in the hilly SF Bay Area... I drive conservatively & do not try to impress people. (Some would probably be happier with the 6 banger).
The front seats are very comfortable with the storage behind both. The passenger seats lays down completely flat so I have a "desk" with netting to hold my binder in place. Has eyeglass holder on ceiling. I have all the seats fold down flat...better visibility. Curb lights on the door for safty.
This car is a dream to park & manuever. Corners well and is fun to drive around bends! Love the ride, so much better than the RAV4 and CRV I tried and the interior outclasses them. There are lots of cargo storage departments and a hidden area under the cargo space.
Someone in my condo who dirves a Mercedes asked why I got a cheap car when asked what I bought...then they looked at it & was quite impressed with the interior. So there is the stigma that these are cheap but that should change with the introduction of the Genesis & once folks start to look at these.
Added running boards, mud guards and body trim...for just a few hunderd bucks. (did not like the body cladding). The lighted ashtray is puny but I don't smoke so it is another storage nook. Glovebox is good size. Armrest low but wide, I think it has to be low because of side airbags, espcially if the front seat is folded flat forward for use as a desk.
I wished there were more choices in hybrids SUV...I stayed away from Ford and Mazda because it was made by Ford due to my Ranger having so noises after just a few years and like the European carlike ride the Tucson has....read morehide

- Extremely comfortable front seat with 4 individual controls, very quiet engine, great ride
- Cannot use regular seat covers because of side airbags
very comfy, like the styling, roomy interior-feels bigger than my Ford Ranger pick up. Automatic 4 cyllinder about the same power as my truck so ok...I am not a lead foot. Mileage is well over 20mpg in city.
Less than 30K, no problems yet. Stock Audio system is very good. Love the XM satelite...has MP3 plug in. Fuse/Plugs in rear.
Very good safty features. Rug mats snap in place and stay put. (I did add mud mats since I am at a ranch daily).
So much more comfortable than my pickup...rode better than the Honda & Toys that felt a bit boucy, like little cars over regular pavement bumps. Because of the Tucsons extra weight the ride is probably better and mileage not as good. Very smooth, quiet shifting tranny.
No complaints with the interior fabric....holding up well, just not very fancy but feels just as strong as my truck, and plastic seems ok. Easy to keep clean.
( I did not try the Ford Escape due to integrity of their products...my Ranger squeals, squeaks, rattles...all starting after the warranty ran out...that will be my last Amer. built car...my Saturn's under powered engine blew at 75K) So back to the imports after owning Japanese vehicles that just kept running.
Great warranty...I plan on keeping this for just 5 years...as technology will change and hopefully a greener vehicle will be introduced. Stayed away from hybrids...yes easy on gas but where are all those batteries going??? Not as green as they are hyped...and 5K for a new battery in just a few years really make them more expensive to drive in the long run....read morehide

- Great Handling and fuel economy. Looks good, too!
- can't find any.
I have the SE - 2.0 engine - and was concerned about the power compared to a V-6, 2.7 L engine. I live on the coast with few hills and no mountains. When I drive it in the mountains, it is a bit "buzzzy" as the tranny downshifts when going up steep hills but it maintains speed well. If you are not bothered by the frequent shifting, then this may be the car for you. Mine gets 28 mpg without the air on and 27 with it on. It handles great and has a very small turning radius. All of the instruments and controls are intuitive and easy to operate. I am extremely happy with this vehicle!...read morehide

45K on my 2006. Still on orig tires. Great little wagon for the buck. Didn't expect a Cadillac. Have a 4 cyl, 5 speed stick and get 20.5 mpg in city traffic. Compared to my old Chevy Astro van, this little truck is a delight.

- good value for money , many extras
- winshield washer pump went at 40,000 miles, tires lasted only 30,000 miles
Good in snow with 2WD . comfortable , reliable , radio cd/tape good sound . I like the spare tire inside not on exterior. Able to fit many items in back even though it looks small. Good turn around , not having to back up and forward like a larger SUV. Its ike having a small car, it will fit into small places. I drive many many miles and this is the best. It is comfortable. I have a 6 cyl and gas milage is good. My next vehicle ...the same I love it. Just wish it had automatic headlights on when dark off in light. If you turn the headlights on and run them ALL the time they will go on when you start the SUV, off when you turn the SUV off...read morehide
