2013 Hyundai Veloster User Reviews
- $17,600 - $22,100
- This car has been fun to drive and a real fuel saver.
- We only have two days off a week to take it to the coastal roads.
Purchased As New
This is the 5th Hyundai we have had and is by far the most "Fun" for no other reason than its just fun to drive. The IT pack is wonderful. With rear view camera and all the other bells that it has hidden in this little package, We are still finding new and cool little add on's.

- Awesome value for your dollar
- "Turbo" concept may be misleading
Purchased As New
I just bought my Hyundai Veloster Turbo (black) and let me tell you I do not regret this purchase in the slightest. This car has EVERYTHING. When I say fully loaded, man I mean fully loaded. I ended up paying less than $24,000 out the door! I could not believe it! When I purchased my Mini Cooper (which is far below par when it comes to the technologies the Hyundai has) I ended up paying well over that price. I have so learned my lesson. From now on I will buy a car based on the value and not based on the supposed coolness factor.
Anyway, I decided to go with the Turbo option because I was used to driving a Mini Cooper S and thought I had a severe need for speed. The Veloster Turbo is not as fast by far, but the drive is so damn pleasant you won't even notice.
I love love love this car (and trust me, I have had A LOT of cars) and give it a 5 star overall rating. It looks super bad #$%$. Its VERY comfortable (Mini Cooper S reminded me how bad the roads in California really are). The performance is great and the value of this car cannot be beat. Although I cannot attest to the reliability of this car just yet, I give it 5 stars due to Hyundai's 5 year 60,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty.
I agree with the review above that said if you do not like people looking at you, then don't buy this car. It is very eye-catching. Trust me, take a test drive in this car an you will not be disappointed....read morehide

- Unique appearance, Fuel economy
- Not as fast as you may think
Purchased As Not Purchased
I spent 3 days with a Veloster Turbo and I was pleasantly surprised with this car. After driving a non-turbo with DCT, this Veloster Turbo would be the car you'd like if you want a bit more spring in your step.
Things to remember:
This car is a SPORTY car, not a sports car. With that being said, if you think you're going to race Speed3's or Focus ST's, you will be disappointed. It was not designed for that, and quite frankly, I didn't mind.
YOU WILL BE NOTICED in this car. I had the matte grey Veloster Turbo, and if you don't want people staring and complimenting you, then don't purchase. This car is very unique, (which I enjoyed).
The matte paint was a $1000 premium, so if you can live without it, you can shave 1k off a relatively low price. This car has a lot of features that not even my $50k daily driver car has. If you are looking for value, this is the car for you.
I drove the A/T which is a true automatic and not a DCT like the base Veloster. The A/T provided a very nice pep to the car, as it did not feel sluggish in the least bit. If you want the true sports car feel, then add the extra pedal.
I hauled friends, groceries and the like, and this car has an extreme amount of truck space that you would never guess. 3rd door has a level of asymmetry that can't be matched. While I wouldn't suggest putting NBA players in the back, it will do if you have to be the designated people mover.
If you are looking for a car that is sporty, fuel efficient, unique, then you have found it in the Veloster Turbo....read morehide

- Smooth handling quiet great on Gas
- The gear box isnt that great manual..
Purchased As New
Picked up the Turbo speed manual and its great smooth ride and excellent in gas.. The only thing I dont like is the manual gear box its little hard to get it in and out of gears when driving normal.. When on the highway the car gets a little lose when cars creaping up on you at higher speeds then you might make you weave to the side of the road....read morehide

- looks good and has good speed for engine size
- falling apart around me

Let me start off by saying my past car history is as follows, I've owned everything from Mini Coppers to Merc slk's. I couldnt wait for this car to come out. Couldn't believe the trouble it took to track one down. I loved this car for the first 3 weeks.....then it all went south.
week 3....driver seats starts squeaking like I'm staying in a hotel that rents rooms by the hour. Never have I ever heard of this problem before in any car I owned.
week5...Blinkers keep getting stuck one way or the other. Makes for interesting highway driving.
week 7...my clear coat on the roof and hood is flaking off....its coming off the car.
Now in Hyundai's defense. I've been saving these problems for my first oil change at my dealer. I've informed my salesperson about and they said its covered under the 12 month adjustment warranty. Good...except the fact I', going to be without a vehicle for a couple of days and my job requires me to do a lot of driving.
I'll repost after the problems have been addressed...read morehide

- Fuel Economy; Updated Looks; Lots of Options for The Price
- none so far...to early to tell
Purchased As New
Honestly, I owned several high performance cars on the past, and I can tell you the Veloster IS NOT going to break any 1/4 mile speed records and/or lap records. If that is what you want, go buy a Porsche 911 with as many options and amenities (and hope you can make the loan payments, insurance premiums, premium fuel prices and maintenance cost). And the Veloster IS NOT a family car; you better purchase a minivan or a large sedan.
I was looking for a economic car with several amenities, in a hatchback configuration, with a manual transmission. The Veloster’s several options offered under the STYLE ($2K) and TECH ($2K) is worth the extra price. The turbo adds extra horse power and torque, but no enough to justify the purchase (another $4K) which brings the car to over $26K, if you pick the MATTE GRAY. The regular Veloster with 6-speed manual, Triathlon Gray, Style and TECH packages, plus floor mats, cargo net and auto dimming mirror cost me around $22K.
The 6-speed manual transmission matches the non-turbo 1.6L engine very well. It has very short, precise gearing which makes it fun to shift (not so sure about the automatic; just didn't feel right). Sometimes you have to double shift down the manual transmission to get the gear you need, but that is the price to pay for great fuel economy. Plastic finish is all over, but what can you expect for a $22K, gas efficient vehicle? Lots of room for the driver and passenger, yet not on the rear seat, which I don’t care since I purchase this vehicle as a personal work commuter.
And a great commuter it is! With adjustable tilt/telescopic steering wheel, great sound, outstanding gas mileage (so far over 36mpg with less than 1,000 miles on it, on mix city/hwy driving) and several amenities like XM radio, Bluetooth streaming, cd, mp3, etc. The volume and tune knob feel small to the touch, but I barely use them, since the steering wheel controls is all I need. Overall, the car is very satisfying if all you are looking for is great fuel economy with a different, updated, sporty look.
All my previous cars are Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Chevy, Ford, Dodge, Audi, BMW, VW and frankly, there is nothing on the current market that can come close to the Veloster on the price/options/gas mileage combination. This been my first Hyundai, I hope it stays mechanically and esthetically durable for years to come, as all my previous cars did. Good maintenance and proper use and care make vehicles last longer, so time will tell......read morehide

- Mileage, Panoramic Sun Roof, Sound & Nav, Leather/Cloth Interior, Premium Tires, Matching Rims
- Cons? What are those? Not with THIS car!
Purchased As New
This is my third Hyundai in the last five years. I went from the Accent to the Tuscon to the Veloster and I loved every single one of them. Thought I needed more room when I bought the Tucson, which is, by the way, and awesome vehicle. Went to get oil change one day and saw the yellow Veloster, which I swear called my name! Drove off with it the next day! Love it more than I can ever say on here. It's by far the best car I've ever owned.
Note: for the guy who said something about the transmission being messed up.....he obviously doesn't know how to drive the car. It's different than your average automatic because it actually functions like a standard transmission, although it shifts automatically. HOWEVER, you have the option to switch it over and do the manual shifting by utilizing the paddle shifters which are located on the steering wheel. I prefer to the automatic simply because it works well for me and I know how to drive so able to get the maximum power and have no beefs about it. Like I said, best car I'ver ever owned!...read morehide

- Good fuel economy and sporty handling in a hot looking car!
Purchased As New
I bought this car two weeks ago and it is my fave of all the cars I have driven. The handling is better than any car I have driven. I really like the paddle shifters and the feel of the steering as well as the suspension. Veloster is a great looking car inside and out, I like the look of the bright colors on this car. Engine power is good with plenty of passing power and is better in sport shift mode. There is also good room in the hatch for groceries. I am really enjoying this car!...read morehide

- on road at 60mph, I get 40+ MPG, sports car manners
- not enough power
Purchased As New
Owned since January, have put 5000 miles on it. Very reliable and the double dry clutch is a wonder, an automatic transmission that acts like a manual and gives you a quick shifting exhaust note. I like the panoramic sunroof and the third door makes the back seat more useful when loading. Gets great mileage and corners and handles like my '75 Alfetta used to. Could use some more power than 138HP, but that would probably bump the stellar mileage (40+ MPG on the road) down. Also love the big sound system with the ability to play my ipod and its 5500 songs. I was not terribly impressed with the voice recognition on the blue link navigation system. You can't talk to it without pulling over, because road noise just keeps it from hearing your directions correctly, and there is apparently no way to key directions in directly. Bucket seats really enclose you, and enhance the sporty ambiance. Overall, a sweet ride at a bargain price....read morehide
