2009 Hyundai Veracruz
There are 5 user reviews for the GLS AWD trim shown below
- Fuel economy. Mine is a Diesel and is very economical
- I have had problems with the brakes since new.
Purchased As New
I live in Colombia, South America and have had problems with the brakes as the front left tire seems to drag as we apply the brakes. The problem has shown since new and has gotten worse at 20.000 actual miles. Service sucks and all they say is that they will re program abs sistem.
I sould have never hassele with anything different from a Toyota, which i will now proceed to trade....read morehide

- Smooth and Powerful V6 engine, AWD, Interior Comfort, Great Ergonomics
Purchased As New
I find that some of the negative "user reviews" on this site as laughable and highly suspicious, especially considering the vague complaints and incorrect information listed.
I've had my Veracruz for about 1.5 years and there has never been a problem. The VC AWD has been a blessing during the Michigan winter and it performs like a champ, especially on unplowed roads where snow and ice keep most cars at bay. The brakes are excellent even on soft snow. I love the added security of the Traction Control and ESC when I'm driving on slippery roads that haven't been salted or plowed yet. My previous SUV was an Infiniti QX4 and the Veracruz was definitely an upgrade in terms of power, on road stability, and fuel economy.
One of the reviewers who wrote a negative review falsely claimed that he had 3 recalls associated with the vehicle. As a TRUE CURRENT OWNER, I have never received a recall for my vehicle. Furthermore, I investigated the matter by calling Hyundai and researched the number of recalls that have been put out on the Veracruz.
HERE ARE THE FACTS:
There has only been one recall for the Veracruz and that was for a DEALER INSTALLED Trailer Hitch (aftermarket part). The Trailer Hitch was manufactured from a third party and NOT from Hyundai. Not every Veracruz owner received the recall because only the ones who bought the accessory item received it.
I highly suspect most of the negative reviews were written by GM/Ford/Chrysler employees since the Big 3 are in danger of bankruptcy. I understand the dire situation for the employees of those companies, but you have to be ethical and just even in hard times like this. This site is a helpful tool for potential car buyers and many rely on the honest and truthful experience of car owners. This is not the site to vent frustration and deception towards other car companies. There are other platforms where this can be done, just not here.

- very confotable, grat ecomnony on the road btut avg in rural driving, very easy handling and control
- have one quirk regrading the inition switch - in for dealer fx no biggie
We also have a 2006 Sonata - what a fantastic car. So far we have 43K on that auto with absolutely nothing wrong. We liked the Veracruz during the test drive but almost didn't buy it due to the rougher than expected ride. Seemed to me like we we're riding on a rock road with solid rubber wheels. At the dealership I noticed that all Veracruz's are shipped from the factory with 55 lbs of air pressure in the tires - so they won't flatten when sitting at the dealership lot for extended periods. I lowered the pressure to the recommended 30 lbs and the thing was like another car - rode almost as well as our continental. I found I had to do this myself after driving off the lot, so for those who thing the ride may tend to be a little rough - check the pressure!!!...read morehide

- Lots of room inside. Not too big outside. It's pretty smooth and quiet. Nice dash.
- Gas GUZZLER. Reliability has been just so-so. Brakes are very bad. High insurance cost. Depreciation
Our model is a 2009 GLS with all wheel drive. We would have bought the front wheel drive but for the case it snows it's better to have all wheel drive even though you lose 1 MPG. Eitherway, the biggest complaint we have has to do with the fuel consumption and reliability. Both we think are not up to date with modern cars. Indeed a look into the reliability ratings for Hyundai and we can see they are better than 10 years ago but still way behind the others. I average 13 miles per gallon. I mostly do city driving but even highway is poor. On the highway I get about 18 if I take it easy and keep it under 60 miles per hour. The brakes are very bad and I have had the rotors replaced already with less than 4k miles. Since it is not covered by the warranty which really does not cover everything, I had to pay out of my pocket $741.30 for new front rotors and pads. I can't understand how a new SUV can eat brakes so fast. The first sign things were bad was when the brakes started to wobble slightly then porgressivly worse until a hard stop was violent and abrupt. The SUV looks good but its a shame it loose value so fast and now already it has lost 40% of its value. I owe more on the loan than the Veracruz is worth. If I could do it again I would not buy a Hyundai and I would shop wisely. I would buy a Ford Flex or Honda. For now I am stuck with it until I pay the loan in 5 years. Then I will buy something reliable and that doesn't depreciate so fast....read morehide

- awd, very good handling
- No cupholders in the back when child seat in middle
I love this vehicle! Mine is a 2008 and I have over 20,000 miles on it, mostly highway driving. Handling is very good, including through the mountains in bad weather. I see the complaints about poor mileage and I don't know how these folks are driving. To consistently get over 20 MPG in a 7 passenger vehicle, usually around 75 mph, is certainly reasonable. When I drop down to 60 (not frequently) I get around 22. Frankly, I don't do much city driving, so I haven't monitored the mpg in town. I really enjoy this SUV and it's a keeper, so I'm not so concerned about resale. So, if you're looking for a good ride, lots of room, reasonable mpg on the highway, and you aren't looking to resale soon, I wouldn't hesitate to buy....read morehide
