Suprise Suprise!

by The Jones from Indiana, Pa. (7/04/08)
Pros:almost 40mpg on the hwy. 25mpg+ in hard stop n go driving in town.
Cons:need to steal car from the wife just to drive it.

We traded the wifes E300 Mercedes, due to fuel prices. Shopped ALL compact cars. For saftey, value, room, fit n finish, ride n drive the Elantra was the winner for us. The first thing I did was put in a K&M air filter, it added to the zip off the light which I liked and a couple more mpg which made the fuel mileage excellent!!! A friend of ours was so impressed with the quality of materals in this car that he is selling his 325 BMW to get a Black SE.

Excellent

by Clyde from Modesto, CA (7/02/08)
Pros:Excellent fuel efficiency, quiet ride, roomy interior
Cons:Head-turner, it makes you "talk of the town"

Bought our Elantra SE at Central Valley Automotive. Fully loaded except the bluetooth and rear spoiler. Dealership service is good. The Elantra SE handles well in a windy road and superb comfort during straight and long drive. XM radio (free for 3 months), 172 watts speaker, blue backlighting, purple rain exterior color and a wide array of safety features makes you feel "above-class" status. Add the tires with nitrogen in it and presto...as if you're driving a car in the 45k range.

Great car, great value!

by Gina from Burbank, CA (7/01/08)
Pros:Decent fuel economy, very spacious
Cons:Handling isn't quite as sporty as some other cars

I purchased my 2008 PZEV (Partial Zero Emission Vehicle), automatic transmission model Elantra back in March and am very happy with it. I was on a very tight budget and needed a new car so I researched and test-drove about 20 other vehicles before settling on this car. The other cars I looked at included the Honda Civic, Toyota Yaris sedan/coupe, Scion XD/XB, Subaru Impreza, Toyota Matrix, Mazda3 and quite a few more. Comparing overall specs on each vehicle I found the Elantra to be comparable to most in its class in terms of it's mechanical abilities, when it came to interior room it was literally head and shoulders above the rest offering more passenger space than almost all other cars in its class which really impressed me. The interior is very tasteful with a two-toned color scheme which really beats out the tired black on black. The free 3 month trial of XM Radio was a little unexpected bonus. I purchased the car with the "popular package" which included the fog lamps, cruise control, CD and A/C and the cost of that package was almost completely offset by the rebate offered for the PZEV model I purchased making this car the best value of all the vehicles I looked at. The warranty (5/60K) is better than any others I looked at. Handling is not as sporty as some other cars but for the price I didn't mind making that compromise. In spite of its "lack" of sporty handling the car does very well regardless. I took the vehicle on a long road trip from Southern California to Northern California traversing what we call the "Grapevine" and the vehicle climbed it without any issue and I was in fact passing many other cars along the way. Fuel effeciency is much better than my most recent vehicle (PT Cruiser) and I averaged about 29mpg on the freeway compared the Chrysler at 22. The insurance rates were the least expensive for this car when I compared it to all others and that sinched the deal for me. I would suggest to anyone looking for a practical car on a budget to give this car a serious look-you might be as pleasantly suprised as I was.

Take it out for a test drive and compare.

by Smthngfrmnthng from Tigard, Oregon (6/24/08)
Pros:Roomy, gas mileage, and quiet.
Cons:Stick shift is tricky

I was looking at the Yaris, Focus, Kia Rio and Nissan before I got the Elantra. When I drove it over the others I liked how much room I had. I am 6" 2" inches tall so making sure I fit is important. My buddy who owns a BMW was suprized by the leg room over his. I am getting about 34/27 mileage. My only complaint is the stick shift is touchy. I did drive a pickup before this which was.. well a truck so it took some getting used to. But I DO NOT like that reverse is up and to the left as opposed to the usual standard of down and to the right. You need to lift up on a little ring to make it go in reverse and sometimes at the beginning it gets confusing if you are in 1st or reverse. It may not be a flashy car but I like that it doesn't stand out. Who needs to have their car stolen like Hondas always are?

very good car and good value

by Kenkcheung from Elk Grove, Ca (6/08/08)
Pros:nice looking, comes with lots of standard features, same ride with 2009 Corolla but a lot less
Cons:inside plastic looks little cheap but who cares especially with the price you paid.

Just bought this kid and love it. It is a black pearl with bright interior cloth. Very nice looking car and ride pretty comfort and firm, not known in the windy situation will it blow away like other comments said, will see. Pretty roomy in this size catagory. Stereo sounds great in regular FM radio but just so so on the XM broadcast. INSIDE DOOR opening latch is plastic painted in metal color feel little cheap but hey who cares about this and look ok to me. Starting the engine(cranking) is very quiet compare to a 2007 Honda Civic (side by side with my friend's Honda) Acceration and engine power not as strong as Honda, ($4000+ difference)will you sacrify this power difference and 3-4 mile EPA? Bought this one because of the price and same equipped compare to 2009 Corolla,(same dealership group) same performance on the same test drive route(long uphill off ramp from freeway with the same load 5 people ttl). Both Corolla and Elentra need 1 gear kick down and run at 2500 maybe 2600 rpm to give more power. I used to drive V6 and I accept this performance because both are 4 cylinder. I will wait and report the gas mileage on this one cos I only drove 100 miles on it. Highly recommened because of the value and performance ratio.

the right car for these tough times

by Ronald Marn from Clearwater, Fla. (6/08/08)
Pros:first fill up 30 mpg, excellent features and stylish wheels, esc and abs, ideal car for the times
Cons:the light gray fabric of the seats seems like it could get dirty quickly

I wouldn't hesitate to buy another if I could find one. They are very scarce because of the 1st place small car rating by Consumer Reports. There are so many extras. My first mpg was 30. It is a great looking car. The black color looks tremendous. I traded in an Infiniti and I thought I would miss the brand. I absolutely do not miss my G20 even though it was a wonderful car for me. I am sure that this is the right car for me in these tough times. I got a great deal and I really couldn't be happier with my Elantra SE.

HYUNDAI GETS IT RIGHT

by STEPHEN FROM SINGAPORE from SINGAPORE (6/07/08)
Pros:3/4 AND REAR STYLE, SPACE, AGILE, FINSHED WELL, PASTEL BLUE DASH
Cons:STEERING A BIT LIGHT AT SPEED, STEERING WHEEL PLASTICKY

FIRST HYUNDAI I'VE OWND AND PLEASANTLY SURPRISED. ALL THE STIGMAS FROM THE KOREAN CARS IN THE 1990S ARE GONE FROM THIS CAR. VERY NICELY FINISHED. NOT SOLD ON FRONT END STLING BUT REAREND AND 3/4 VIEW IS VERY LEXUS. DASH IS DIFFEENT IN SINGAPORE , WE GET STUCK WITH A NON INTEGRATEDSTREO THOUGHWE HAVE DIFFERENT AIR CON CONTROLS. WE ARE STUCK WITH A 1.6 LTR BUT ITS ERFECT FOR SINGAPORE ,,WHERE NON FREEWAY LMIT IS ONLY 50 KMH.
BOT SPACE IS VERY GOD . VIRTUALLY SAME AS SONATA AND INTERIORON A PAR. THE LEATHER SEATING S A NICE TOUCH. REA VISON MIRRORS ARE VERY GOOD, VERY BIG. STORAGESPACE IS WELL SORTED. ON THE ROAD STEERING WOULD BE GREAT FOR LADIES AND A BOON FOR PARKING BUT CAN BE LITTLE IGHT AT SPEED. MODULATION F BREAK PEDAL TOOK 1-2 GOES BUT AFTER THAT WAS FINE.
WOULD IT MAKE SENSE IN THE USA ..ABSOLUTELY. SAFE FAST AND ENOUGH POWER. ITS MAKES SENSE IN THE WDIE EXPANESE OF MY ONW HOME BACK ON AUSTRALIA. ALSO GREAT IN SINGAPORE AND COSTS ALMOST THE SAME AS THE FIT HERE ..NICE CAR THE FIT BUT HYUNDA IS A SIZE UP

WARRNTY S GREAT. RESIDUALS A LITTLE LOW BUT THE WARRANTY AND LOW ENTRY PRICE MAKE UP FOR IT. WOULD I BUY ONE. YES AND DRIVE A DEAL WITH THE DEALER

Hyundai Makes Great Vehicles for the Money!

by Starhopper from Warner Robins, GA (6/06/08)
Pros:36 mpg on the hwy/good looking vehicle/strong build/lots of extras/10 yr warranty/5 yr road assist!
Cons:None that I can see!

I have owned Toyotas, Hondas, Chevys, you name it - I now own two Hyundai vehicles (the other is a 2007 Santa Fe) and love them both. You can tell that Hyundai is "hungry" to make an impression in the automobile market. Just like Honda did when it got started, Hyundai is making super vehicles with lots of standard equipment that is extra on other manufacturers' models and charging less than the competition.

I traded in my gas guzzling Honda Element for the 2008 Elantra and couldn't be more happy with the increase in gas mileage and solid feel of the vehicle. Have had several people stop me on the street and ask, "Is that a Hyundai? What a nice looking car!"

Recommended it to my daughter and her Hubby for a first car - they bought one as well and love it. Can;t go wrong with the 2008 Elantra!

It has great rims, sunroof, XM radio, heated seats, awesome warranty, electronic stability control and more...if you are thinking about getting a new car, this one is perfect..just make sure to get the SE model!

Awesome Car, Awesome Price!

by Ro from New York, NY (5/30/08)
Pros:Great on Gas, Super Comfy, XM Radio, Aux Plug, Price
Cons:Rough to get up steep hill

I just purchased this vehicle two weeks ago and I'm in love! There is nothing not to like about this car. Hyundai has really stepped up their game. I love how the car is compact but is so roomy inside. Also love the XM radio, which gives so many more options then regular radio.I also love the fact that I can plug my IPod in and not carry C.D.s in the car. The car does great on gas. I did almost 200 miles over the weekend and only used a little under half a tank! You can't beat that esp with the rising gas prices. The only minor problem I have is going up steep hills, the car really didn't move too good. I know, its only a 4 cylinder, but honestly I couldn't get the car to go past 40 mph. Talked to the dealer and they said to shift down and that should fix the problem. This is def. a car to buy!
