Being a bit of a car buff, I got this Jag when one of my favorite dealers took it in on trade. It's higher mileage, but simply a pleasure car for me, and the price was right.
The styling of the car is what drew me in. It's a beautiful car and people will tell you so. It shares the same platform as the Aston Martin DB7, so it looks like money. The 4.0 liter v8 is a bit too quiet for me and the acceleration is strong, but not as strong as a 5 liter Benz roadster of the same generation. The 4.0 liter is the big question mark-if you can upgrade to a post 2003 4.2, you are better off because the 4.0 liter has timing chain issues. If the timing chain tensioner breaks, likely your engine will be trashed. I would not pay top dollar for a 1997-2002 xk8 (or any Jag 4 liter) unless there was paperwork to prove the timing chain tensioner has been replaced.
The stereo is a dated Jag model with cassette, but I just use an ipod adapter and it sounds fine. The back seat is useless for passengers, but good for extra storage.
On a pretty day, however, the cars weakness all fade as it imparts a 'special' feeling as you bask in the finely upholstered seats, wood and fabulous styling with the power of a v8.
