- Pros
- You get what you pay for. No complaints with any of the equipment, sound, entertainment system.
- Cons
- fuel economy, poor rear vis (but back up camera makes up for it in reverse), 3d row seats
Purchased As New
Purchased custom limited 4x2. Got everything I wanted on the vehicle w/ 2010 pricing this vehicle came out waaay ahead of competition on standard equipment.
Seems like I'm constantly filling up w/ the 5.7 HEMI, however, I attribute this to a couple of things besides lousy gas mileage (I'm lucky to see over 275 miles between fillups). It does have a smaller tank than some of the other SUV's I've driven including Expedition and Yukon. I pull a 3900 lb boat that causes ANY SUV I've driven go through gas at such a rate that it makes me gulp. Even my Expedition was requiring a fuel stop every 175-200 miles or so pulling the boat and I could easily get over 375 on a tank of gas driving this conservatively.
Interior is nice with 2nd row seats elevated to provid good vis and the amount of skylight w/ the moonroof and rear skywindows is very nice. cargo room is ample and seats fold into the floor. I HATED removing seats from the Yukon, but LOVED the way the expedition is only a push of a button. The Commander is easy to adjust into any number of combinations, but if you are taking even a small amount of things with you, it will be necessary to put at least one of the 3d row seats down as there's just not enough room behind them for much more than a small gym bag or two. Also they 3d row seats are comfortable to someone who's about 11. Adults.... need to keep it in the first two rows.
No issues w/ performance...5.7 HEMI w/ 357HP...nuff said. I would highly recommend NOT getting the V6. You'll be underpowered for anything other than highway driving or straight and level city driving. I test drove one and really wasn't impressed. When you step on it w/ the HEMI...it lurches.
Rides like a JEEP. You either love it or hate it. If you haven't figured out that JEEPs aren't cadillacs or BMW's, then you are shopping for the wrong car.
The rearview mirror visibility is pretty bad as the back window is rather small. It gets worse w/ the 3d seats up. It gets worse when someone is sitting in those seats. It is about non-existant when you have the DVD screen down from the u-connect entertainment center. It does have good sized side mirrors though which help offset the poor rearview mirror. It also has a back up camera that makes backing up easy w/ warning that goes off before you back into something. You don't even need to turn your head to look behind you once you get used to using the camera with its wide field of view....read morehide1 out of 1 people found this review helpful.

I purchased my Commander new in 06. Its a mans truck. I only wished I purchased the v8 but the v6 has not let me down. If you have aproblem in buying gas do not get this truck get youself a 4cyl eco box. Bad weather, heavy rain, extreme winds, deep icy snow this is the safest vehicle I have driven. I'm keepn this one!...read morehide

I love the review about it being underpowered! Ha .. a V6 from Daimler especially their bottom one .. they love to have two of everything you know.. is like putting a cat heart in a tiger and then ask it to kill an elephant. If you couldnt figure out from the test drive or reviews then you bought price. But dont complain about the vehicle because you bought it because it was purty. The only engine worth that vehicle is the Hemi and the improved 4.7 . And remember the trim line in the lower end is horrible when it comes to features. Its just a base Cherokee with a camper shell.Ha.
As long as there are buyers like the one below Jeep will still make Cheep versions of their top end ones . So does everyone? Maybe but not such a blantent difference as the Chrysler corp does in their whole line. Its good to see that they are not getting away with it . I hope FIat gets rid of all the dead weight there .
"3) The 3.7L V6 210HP is GROSSLY underpowered, as had been mentioned by other reviewers. The gas is heavy on what may appear to be standard & flat roads, but you will be unhappily surprised once you hit your first hill. This will force you to make steepness/incline judgments & to push the gas a little harder at the beginning of an incline in order to keep pace midway & at the top. Once you pickup momentum & get going on a flat highway, the Commander is smooth & fun to drive. You feel like a MAN driving this thing when all conditions are right.
4) MPG is poorer than the median. This will have more of an affect if you are driving on steep terrain & hill studded areas, or if you are stuck in stop-and-go traffic. This is pretty much true with all cars, but it will have a bigger impact on this one."...read morehide2 out of 2 people found this review helpful.

- Pros
- looks cool, sophisticated 4wd system, drives smoothly, Hemi power, great buy
- Cons
- gas mileage(it is a boxy V8 4x4), worry about Jeep (un)reliability
Purchased As New
I currently love this Jeep. No major complaints. I just hope I didn't buy a stereotypical JEEP from a reliability standpoint. Great deals can be had on the remaining 2010s as the Commander has been discontinued.

- Pros
- same luxury as luxury vehicles with all the ooomph of a jeep
Purchased As New
i absolutely loved our commander....the best vehicle we've owned and we've owned caddy's, audi's, porche, etc. By far the very best vehicle in the snow and the luxury was incredible as well. Back support, comfort level all the little bells and whistles. No idea why people complain about the backing up vision...didn't find that a problem, not to mention the back up beeping sound. I would just stop when it started and never had a problem. Love, love, love this jeep!...read morehide

- Pros
- Good For Road Trips and Bad Weather
- Cons
- Gas burner but not as much as the Liberty!
Purchased As Used
Love my Commander. Bought it used 17k! Did shut off on highway took them a while to diagnose that. But once it was fixed no more trouble. I Love Jeep period. Had a 2001 Cherokee got hit by a field tracker and still I live to tell it!!It caught on fire and I am still here. So Jeep is where I stay. This is a roomie vehicle, Dvd a plus,27 dollars I am full, smooth ride, comfortable seats.Third row is a bit small but it works. Love the beeping light which helps you to back up with ease feels safer. Third row makes visability not great but it still is cool. Put the third row down can get a great deal in the car. Winter time even in a blizzard this truck is going and you feel safe. Sunroof is just lovely, extra sunroof windows a cool feature. Awesome radio system lots of speakers. And my poor Commander was in an accident and she took a hit. But the damage was not horrible. I am at 76,000 miles and we are rolling right along. Love this vehicle. And its not expensive to fix!USA all the way! This was a great buy for me!...read morehide

- Pros
- Plenty of space ..Nice Interior / Comfotable Ride / Great Features - Bluetooth, XM, 7 pass., Rear DV
- Cons
- Limited Rear Visibility , Poor MPG
Purchased As Used
I'm a 20 plus year Jeep Owner ... My previous '99 Jeep Cherokee fell apart all at once after 10 years of faithful service . ~ I'm praying that my Commander has some longevity.... I love this TRUCK. So far only one problem that the service department is still having issues with "Transmission OVER Temp" panel message .. "Scary". They have not been able to determine if it's actually over temp or whether the electronics are malfunctioning. Either way .. I have just 50,000 miles ...
And I will be purchasing a "extended warranty"....read morehide1 out of 1 people found this review helpful.

- Pros
- Solid & looks good. You feel good driving it
- Cons
- V6 underpowered, poor visibility, big space yet not enough room
Purchased As Used
Purchased mine used with 10K miles. I feel that this vehicle is a little bit odd to judge. Let me try to break it down into the individual components.
1) I now have more space than my previous vehicle (3rd row seating), yet I am lacking space when all 7 seats are occupied. When the latter is true, there is VERY LITTLE room to place any other items. It is awkward for passengers to gain access to the 3rd row, having to jump across folded 2nd row seats. Furthermore, the visibility to the back window becomes severely hindered by the head rests of the 3rd row seats. Passenger heads obviously add to this obstruction.
2) Poor visibility of back window (as mentioned), but there is poor visibility of traffic lights in front of you. This has to do with the distance of the seat from the front of the car, and the structure & slant of the front window. It becomes necessary to then constantly be aware not to drive too close to the light, or be forced to put your head down to see the light. Given the length of the vehicle, there appears to be a longer blind spot when viewing through the side mirrors as well.
3) The 3.7L V6 210HP is GROSSLY underpowered, as had been mentioned by other reviewers.
This is pretty much true with all cars, but it will have a bigger impact on this one.
5) The Commander is a good looking unit & easily impresses others, especially those who do not know anything about the items aforementioned.
Overall I am happy with the purchase, although worried about long-term strain on the engine. If it can pass the reliability test & the 120K mark without any major glitches, I would be happy....read morehide1 out of 1 people found this review helpful.
