I was hard pressed to think of something positive about this vehicle. This vehicle has so many flaws that I can't decide which to mention. The visors don't actually block the sun (they are too short and cover only half the window), the engine is underpowered, and there are large blind spots. My particular vehicle has had transmission problems and actually received a new transmission at 50K. Now it has 90K and needs another transmission. I have also had to replace the throttle body. Also the only tires that are the factory size are made by Goodyear. The interior looks and feels cheap, the ride is rough and noisy, and the fuel consumption is only ok (about 22-24 mpg average). My mom's F150 gets 21 MPG!!...read morehide

I've had my Patriot now for 16,000 miles. I joined fueleconomy.gov and have been tracking my fuel mileage for the past 7,000 miles where I've averaged 26.2 MPG. Ironically, the highway driving, with the 80 MPH speed limit here in Texas, actually drives my mileage down into the low 20's. But in the city, I routinely average 26-28 MPG. I live in El Paso and have taken some trips on New Mexico's "slower" highways of 65-70 MPH and my fuel economy on those trips has averaged 32 MPG. But besides the gas mileage, the car rides great. There is one particular rough patch of road here that my Patriot takes in stride where my friend's 2011 Sportage has a buckboard ride as did a 2010 Chevy Aveo I had rented prior to moving here. The car is also very versatile with plenty of room for my Great Dane and Boxer for our trips to the Dog park. Top it all off with very good crash test results and I'm surprised these things aren't flying off the lots. Oh, did I happen to mention that mine stickered for $15,000 but I drove it off the lot new for $12,000 after rebates and haggling last summer....read morehide

My wife had this jeep and it was not wost car to travel in. I drive it to work from time to time and I hate every min of it. the sun visor is way to short to do any good. I have to hold up my hand to block out the sun even when the sun visor is down, NO matter where the sun is in the sky the sun visor is worthless. as soon as this junk of a car is paid off we will be be getting a much better car. My old 1999 ford rides better then this. If your looking for a new jeep do NOT pick this junk. My wife regrets ever getting this thing....read morehide

I'm very happy with this car. Gas mileage is great, although it does lack a bit of punch and the CVT can take bit to kick in, but it's worth for the gas mileage.
The traction control worked great on snow and ice. My car never had a problem on icy roads while other cars were sliding around.
Looks great, comfortable, roomy despite being a "small-suv."...read morehide3 out of 3 people found this review helpful.

Ours is a 2010 Latitude 4x4 CVT (not a provided choice in the review box). This is a 4x4 with all sorts of safety features that has returned an honest 29 mpg in warm weather, and gets about 24 in the cold (differing gas). A load of safety features which make for safe all-season commuting, all for a price comparable to other brands entry-level accommodations. We're 9500 miles into ownership, and am glad we gave Jeep a chance. So should you. The best 4x4 mileage at a price almost 10k lower than most competition. Awesome....read morehide

We bought a Patriot North edition in Canada (Not available in US - in between Sport and Limited) 3 months ago. I was afraid of buying this model because of some reviews, but I kept coming back to it and fell in love with it.
I thought I was buying a cheap basic 4x4 and now I feel I have a marvel of technology in my hands. The engine with its dual timing rods that can use the 4 cylinder 2.4 liter engine much like a 6 cylinder engine (I go at 2000 rpm at 60 miles an hour!), the CVT transmission that is so well adjusted (it "breaks" when you need it going down a coast and gives the smoothest drive I've ever felt in a car). It can turn on a dime, even better than my other car, a VW Golf! On top of it, it dosn't even drink more gas than the tiny Golf!
Here in Canada, we have lots of snow and ice and I have to drive on pretty steep and scary slopes of unpaved roads to go to my cabin. Last month, after an episode of freezing rain, as 3 cars were stranded along the road unable to make it to the top, I've past by not even noticing the ice : it kept going up without sliding one bit... amazing!
I love also the feel of being in a truck. You just need a little adjustment to the CVT, but after you tried it for a week, you just don't want to drive anything else.
On top of it, you are buying a true North american car made in Northe America!...read morehide9 out of 10 people found this review helpful.

It's no secret that the Jeep Patriot has received a mild refresh for the 2011 model year, but it seems European-spec models will receive one additional detail not part of the North American makeover: a new turbo-diesel I-4 offering.
No, the Patriot was offered with a turbo-diesel I-4 in the past, but Chrysler's switched to a completely new engine design. Instead of the previous Volkswagen-sourced 140-horsepower, 2.0-liter turbo-diesel, Euro-spec Patriots are now powered by a 2.2-liter turbo-diesel I-4 designed and built by Mercedes-Benz. Rated at 163 horsepower, Chrysler believes the engine will allow the diesel-powered Patriot to achieve greater fuel economy and produce fewer emissions.
In Europe, the updated Patriot will come in four trim levels; Sport, Sport+, Limited and Overland, each with increasing levels of luxury equipment. All four models will have an increased top speed of 125 mph with the Mercedes engine, compared to 117 mph with the Volkswagen mill. Also improved is the Patriot?s 0-60 mph time, which now clocks in at a relatively pedestrian 10.7 seconds.
Jeep hasn?t announced a diesel version of the Patriot for the U.S. market, and quite frankly, we don't expect them to in the near future. Other technologies, including Fiat's range of small-displacement MultiAir engines, would seem to potentially be a better fit for the Patriot, or its forthcoming successor. Further, the Mercedes-Benz 2.2-liter CRD is not currently offered in the U.S., so it would probably need to make its way into other models to justify the expense of federalization. Until then, only the Europeans will be able to enjoy a Patriot rated at a combined 42.8 mpg in the European test cycle....read morehide27 out of 29 people found this review helpful.
