- Great Fuel Economy
- Slightly Underpowered
Purchased As New
I've had my Patriot now for 16,000 miles. I joined fueleconomy.gov and have been tracking my fuel mileage for the past 7,000 miles where I've averaged 26.2 MPG. Ironically, the highway driving, with the 80 MPH speed limit here in Texas, actually drives my mileage down into the low 20's. But in the city, I routinely average 26-28 MPG. I live in El Paso and have taken some trips on New Mexico's "slower" highways of 65-70 MPH and my fuel economy on those trips has averaged 32 MPG. But besides the gas mileage, the car rides great. There is one particular rough patch of road here that my Patriot takes in stride where my friend's 2011 Sportage has a buckboard ride as did a 2010 Chevy Aveo I had rented prior to moving here. The car is also very versatile with plenty of room for my Great Dane and Boxer for our trips to the Dog park. Top it all off with very good crash test results and I'm surprised these things aren't flying off the lots. Oh, did I happen to mention that mine stickered for $15,000 but I drove it off the lot new for $12,000 after rebates and haggling last summer.
