2006 Jeep Wrangler User Reviews
Unlimited Rubicon shown
- $11,673 - $15,461
- Solid truck with exceptionally comfortable seats. Drives well with plenty of power to spare.
- Shifting into second generates some gear clatter but otherwise 6 speed is a dream.
With a 2" lift kit straight from the dealer, this truck looks and drives like a dream. It may have a 6 cyclinder but it feels like an 8; six speed manual is fun to drive. Center console could be a little more user friendly but, hey, its a Jeep! First Jeep in the family but surely not the last... these things are a blast to own and drive....read morehide

- Everything but the gas mileage.
- Wish it had better gas mileage
I LOVE the Unlimited. I had a '95 Wrangler Sport I traded in on a Ford Escape - BIG, BIG MISTAKE - I hated that car and as soon as the Unlimited debuted, I dumped the Escape. Jeep read my mind when they added the extra trunk space (and my 160 lb Rott likes the extra room in the back seat). I intend to drive a Wrangler Unlimited until I'm too old and decrepit to climb in it....read morehide

- Climbs anything, Great handling, maneuverability, convertible SUV
- Not for Bad Backs, abhorrent gas milage, hardest 2nd row entry/exit ever
This is it. The one and only Jeep. An American icon which has maintained its rugged reputation for the past 65 years. The TJ is the best model of Wrangler designed in my opinion. Although it is significantly larger than the older YJ and CJ, it still goes anywhere, and I do mean everywhere. I haven't turned back on a trail as of yet. Creature comforts are great in the fact that there aren't many. This is not a Buick, this is a tough and rough vehicle and is designed as such, interior and exterior. Seats are alright, not powered, but comfortable once you get used to it. I love the feel of the drive though. The TJ actually has a low center of gravity and will not roll over if you are somewhat reasonable. Like driving a lifted Porsche, you could say. I love my soft top because it allows for several configurations, and when down, it goes with the Jeep instead of hanging in the garage, just waiting for that unfortunate rainy day. Road noise, I believe, is essential to having that manly driving sensation. On the highway going 60 mph, I'll have the windows down and the music blaring. If you are even thinking about buying it, just go do it. The best decision I could have ever done. Despite the lack of comfort features, you'll feel so cool when you drive it. Even though on the road it is a dream, off-road it is a beast. I can drive the sucker just about anywhere an ATV can go and, as I said before, I have yet to turn back on a trail due to difficulty. No lifted truck on earth can go where the Jeep will due to the fact of the truck's longer wheelbase and WIDTH. Width is a huge factor when it comes to off-roading. You will destroy your vehicle's paint job if it is too wide. The TJ is also the last Wrangler which will be a great aftermarket customizable. If you have seen the new 2007 Wrangler, the bumper and fender flares are integrated as one flowing piece on both front and rear ends. Get some nice bumpers and just a little lift, not a huge one unless you want to hit the overhanging branches and replace your windshield often, and ,in no time, you'll be pimping in an off-road kinda way. The saying is not "Only in a Toyata", it's "Only in a Jeep." If you want a true man's off-road auto, get the TJ Rubicon. Rubicon stock parts are so much better suited for off-roading. Can you say DANA 44! Remember, all TJs are alike, no matter what year, they essentially have remained the same, so don't be confused when looking between used TJs. The new JK or TK will not be as capable as TJ is. Why? Because of Length and Width. Trying to give it a better ride I guess....read morehide

- Simple, capable, reliable and FUN.
- A bit noisy at higher speeds.
First Jeep I have ever owned (06 Unlimited with 4.0 L and six speed manual trans). Great fun around town and light off-road exploring. No complaints on ride quality offered by longer wheelbase Unlimited, just like driving a car. The noise with just the soft top is quite bearable at or below the speed limits. A little too noisy for my liking at 65 mph and above. Great for stress relief. Unlimited is basically a "Sport" model with longer wheelbase. Comes standard with everything you could want or need. The "Rubicon" is for serious off-roaders only. Satellite radio is a must have option and worth every penny....read morehide

- Smooth ride, fun
- storage space
I absolutely, positively love my jeep. I've always wanted one and just bought one last year and I have to say it's my favorite vehicle of all time. It's a jeep thing I guess. I have both the hard top and a soft top. The soft top is definitely noisier than the hard top, but it's worth the noise when the weather is nice!!...read morehide

- Love the Solar Yellow Paint. It just makes you smile. Unbelievably fun to drive.
- Gas mileage is not so hot, but not bad with the 4 cylinder engine. Base stereo is a little weak.
This is the most fun I've ever had driving a vehicle. I've never loved a vehicle so much. My first vehicle was a 91 Wrangler which I loved...I am home again with the 06 Wrangler. After many boring practicle cars I am so glad I bought the Wrangler. The SE model is all you need. I can't believe how well equiped it is for the price. Additionaly, the vinyl seats are way better than the cloth seats. They are unbelievably comfortable. The ergonomics on the new Jeeps are amazing...Everything fits like a glove. The 6 speed manual is a breeze to drive. Every minor problem I had with the 91 Wrangler has been improved. The base model has overhead speakers and lights, the 91 didn't. The window tops pop off in literaly 2 seconds and are a blast to drive with while off. I would not take any vehicle in the world over my new solar yellow Wrangler....read morehide

- looks, performance, finally the everyday wrangler
- none. it's a jeep
We just bought the unlimited and love it. The 4spd shifts smoothly, Gas mileage is pretty good for a jeep, alot better than the old 3 speed. The audio system is really nice, 6 disc/7 speakers/sirius radio. can't ask for more. The extra room is great, can't wait to use the sunrider roof. The best part of the unlimited is the RIDE!!!...read morehide

- I can't believe the interior space!
Get this, I traded a Mercedes-Benz CLK 430 to get back into a Jeep and I'll never drive anything else other than a Jeep or an H2 (my wife is driving that). I'm a "Jeep guy" through and through, my first was a 1981 CJ Laredo, then I owned a couple of Cherokees and Cherokee Sports.
I've been out of a Jeep for a bit due to size, the Wranglers were tight on my knees (I'm 6' 7") when steering and when the Unlimited came out I "had to have one" so now I have one.
It's the right vehicle for the right person, as another review said. The right person is a person who knows that an Unlimited isn't for luxury, it's for utility and off-road fun....read morehide

- handling,suspension,engine,oil leaks
Great Suv but will give you problem in the long run. Mine is leaking oil . Had to take it back to the dealer to have it fix. Not a problem but it should not be happening in a new vehicle
