Love turns to pain

by Scott Roy from Stephenville, TX (9/30/08)
Pros:Fun Ride
Cons:Too many to list

Had my JK for 18 months, rust on door hinges under paint (never exposed to salt), paint on windshield frame flecking off, stability braking system light comes on and stays on with the slightest braking/turning evolution. Gas mileage has NEVER lived up to estimates. I am VERY disappointed in my purchase, I really loved this vehicle when it was new and now wish I'd never bought it. Local dealers body shop has used avoidance tactics to avoid dealing with the rust issue. So to you looking to buy, be careful, you too may regret it 18 months in.

It has met or exceeded expectations.

by Jim Wolfe from Crystal River, FL (9/28/08)
Pros:Better Fuel Econ that on sticker (55-60) and rides just fine.
Cons:Even with hard top there is a bit more wind noise at 60+mph than expected.

Bought this car new a month ago. Never had a Jeep before and was not sure what the experience would be like. So far we love it. Comfortable to drive. 1800 miles of Interstate at approx 60mph got 23.4mpg. Vehicle seems tight and secure. Still learning the Jeep and plan to keep 12-15 years (hence, life time drive train warranty a big plus in my mind). We have the 4door 4wd model. Suspect the wider wheel base helps with ride and feel of stability. Finally, this is a first-time user/owner so my comments and thoughts are subject being questioned.

You will be hapy with 4.10 gears

by Dallas B. Dieckmann from Monroe MI. (9/13/08)
Pros:If you get the 6 spped trans get the 3.73 or 4.10 gears,4.10 for best mpg
Cons:does not have enough power on the hiway for passing ,takes forever

The track bar brackets on the axles need to be made thicker and stronger due to them getting ripped off while on the trail or on the road and or the hole that the bolt attaches the track bar to the bracket gets worn out and causes the track bar to slide around and cause axle missalignments or severe shakeing.

The front inner plastic wheel well linner is held in place by a plastic push plug and when you hit a pudle of water or mud,or driveing in the snow or slush or sand. Anything that hits that wheel well linner causes pressure and pops out that plastic plug. Then what hapens is it rubs and bounces on your brake lines and wares a hole in them thus causing brake falure. This can be fixed by using a longer bolt through the top side in the engine compartment by about 1/2 inch longer than stock and a fat washerand a locking nut. The one bolt is under the corner of the battery witch will have to be removed to remove the bolt to replace it with a longer bolt. The other bolt is on the driver side.
When I was at silver lake sand dunes in Michigan I told my fellow jeepers about the plug poping out and 97% of them were missing the plugs. If they dont do this litle fix they are going to have a whole lot of jeeps with out their brakes. My passenger side brake line has been worn about 1/2 way through I painted it so that way it would last longer and not rust.

Still the venerable Jeep

by Jimmy from Seabrook Texas USA (9/02/08)
Pros:2nd best resale out there, sturdy, reliable parts, American!
Cons:Needs a diesel for U.S. consumers!, the 2wd version is like an airplane with no wing

Decent rig. makes me feel safe with my family. Needs a diesel powerplant. Economy is ok, for what it is. 2wd version?... just get the mini-van and stop posing. ;D

Torn Soft Top

by Kristin Guldi from Southampton, NY (8/18/08)
Pros:Good on fuel
Cons:Soft Top too tight

I love my truck soo much awsome performance on and off road. As for appearance it's deffinately an eye catcher. My only con with my truck is the soft top has ripped and Jeep told me because it wasn't in the seem it couldnt be warrantied I had to have it fixed by a profesional apoholseter who said it was the worst made jeep top he had ever seen and it is not normal for the material to rip after 2 months of use. Also I have had the nuts pop off of screws for the frame work the soft top for the 4 door jeeps needs some tweeking and it is not worth $1500 + for a top the continues to malfunction.
