This SUV is amazing! I got it nearly a week ago and I love it. The gas mileage is pretty good, the leg room in both the front and the back is awesome, and the radio sounds pretty dern good. It's just an awesome car. I was debating between this and a full size truck and I am way happier with this than I would have been with a truck. Thanks Kia!!!...read morehide

- Loaded with features, great price, good economy, very comfotable ride
- An overdrive would improve highway mileage
We got our Sportage last February while still living in Michigan. Not a 4WD, but with 4 wheel ABS, front wheel drive, and electronic stability control, it handled better in snow than the Dodge Durango 4x4 we traded in on it.
Can't say enough good things about the car. Great styling. Loaded with features (including a low tire pressure warning). Great fit and finish. 10 year, 100,000 mile warranty. Very comfortable ride, good gas mileage, and priced thousands below the competition. We test drove the RAV-4 and CRV...all good cars, but ours cost a whole lost less with great quality.
We're averaging 20 mpg city and 25-26 mpg highway. We've done 11,000 miles and other than picking up a nail in a tire, haven't had a spot of trouble with it....read morehide

- What more can you ask for the price???
- Be patient with the gas mileage!
I'd like to remindall new and potential drivers of this vehicle that the gas mileage doesn't kick in until the engine's broken into. This is usually between 3,000-5,000 miles. I had another brand new car and it took me a good year to get better mileage on it. Right now, with less than 2,000 miles on it (I just bought it at the end of August), I'm getting/ranging 19 to 20 miles per gallon, a good 330 miles per full tank pushing empty. I'll give an update as time passes to advise if the mileage does improve, which I anticipate it should as my other new vehicle did. I still think for all of the bells and whistles this model comes wiith (THE REAR SEATS DO RECLINE!), you CANNOT beat this price WITH the warranty! Also, first oil change is not required until after 7,000 miles!!!! This is if you're not driving it in rough terrains on a regular basis. If it's your reegular, highway or town commutor car, you shouldn't require an oil change at 3,000 miles as most vehicles. Also, it's so nice having a not so common car that not everyone else is driving on the road these days. I've seen less than a handful out there since I've bought mine. HAPPY DRIVING! - A happy, proud Kia driver...read morehide

- Warranty, Sporty SUV for low $20k.
- None so far.
I thought I had my heart set on the Chevy Equinox, but after the test drive, there was NO way I was buying that vehicle! The steering was SO loose, it felt like an accident waiting to happen. Without strong steering, it felt like there was NO handling. The interior seemed VERY cheap. Between having loose steering and cheap interior, it felt like a toy car, totally unreliable. The factory warranty doesn't help convince you to buy it either. Their extended warranty is $2,500 for a total of 6yrs, I forget the mileage, but that's too much for me. My boyfriend suggested I check with Kia and Hyundai. I don't care for Hyundais not to mention the body style of the Sante Fe (or the price at that), so I researched the Kia first and foremost. I really liked what I saw in the Sportage, the package, the confirming reviews of sturdy steering and solid handling through turns, over all smooth ride. I went to test drive the EX 4x2 today and went home with it. I actually picked up my son from 35 miles away, then drove another 60 miles on it. The long drive just confirms my feelings for this car, I LOVE IT! The engine is quiet and the ride is smooth, a lot like a car, but higher. I bought the dark grey which matches the dark grey standard bumper VERY nicely. My mom, brother, and a car shop owner were all impressed with the interior and exterior of this mini SUV. The dual exhaust, cup holders (extras in each door for soda cans), rear folding seats and solid doors, perfect in overall vehicel size, how can you beat that for the price? I did test drive the Sorento and didn't really care for it. It had a different feel compared to the Sportage. The Sorento's ride was softer, more like a luxury car, but that didn't feel very solid on the road to me b/c it was so soft. Also, I know the gas mileage is less and I get less eminities for the money. This is understandable b/c it's a higher class model, but I am trying to get the most for my money with the most comfortable ride. I'm 5' 3" and I felt like I didn't fit this vehicle. The seats were larger and it is roomier, however, the Sportage is smaller and the seats fit me like a glove. My boyfriend chose the Sorento over the Sportage b/c he's a guy and is larger then I, but I chose the one that made me most comfortable since I'm the one driving it everyday. Also, in the Sorento, you can't just fold the seats down, you have to pull out the bottom seat cushion, then move the seat down, and there's no plastic on the back to protect it from getting dirty. All I can hope from here on out is that this car serves me well and does not require costly maintenance repairs too soon. I will drive it with love and take great care of it (servicing it as required) and I'll check in with a new review in a few months. Test drive a Sportage and you'll see for yourself, a test drive can truly make all the difference. Good luck in your decision making! Oh, and this review is coming from a driver of a 2005 Nissan Altima 2.5S (2.4L IV engine). I still have my Altima for fuel convenience (and it has a larger trunk if more than 2 people need to sit comfortably with luggage). Happy mini SUV hunting!...read morehide

- exceeds sticker 22/26
- No Power Seats and Rear seats can't be adjusted
Love It. Would buy another in a heartbeat. My Dealer Bob Dance in Merritt Island is top notch. I love this vehicle for the money you can't beat it. It rides as well as my 2005 Kia Sedona Van. Handling is awesome tight and with the slick rainy roads here in Florida no skidding or slidding. Traction control is also awesome. Plenty of room and loaded with storage areas. Fuel is above sticker rating. Only a week old and am getting 22/26. I highly recommend this SUV. You won't be disappointed....read morehide

- Great standard features and good V6 power
- none for this price
Love this SUV has good power and roomy enough for 5 Took it to Vegas averaged 27 mpg not bad for a V6 with 4 people and suitcases. Many standard features including roadside assistance.

- ABS, traction control, etc. are wonderful.
- I can't say I have any cons, it's a super vehicle.
I had a 2002 Kia Sportage & I liked it. However, the 2006 is a distant relative to the 2002. The overall appearance is wonderful - the outside is a fresh, clean design - the inside is just as nice as much more expensive vehicles.
I am so pleased that I purchased this vehicle in every way. I only wish I had done it sooner.
If you are looking for a nice, reasonable, great looking SUV - try it, you just might like it....read morehide

- Nice exterior design and roomy interior. Very cold air conditioning and nice sound system with mp3.
- Break dust on wheels very often. A little thirsty on the gasoline.
I bought this suv because I wanted to sell my old 95 Sportage. It already had above 118,000 miles. This car worked well with me and I hope the 2006 EX 2wd works and lasts just as long. The KIA warranty made my decision easier but I was opting for a Rav4. Though I am still curious about the RAV4 I'm pretty glad I opted for the Sportage. It is much better equiped so I hope it will last the next decade well. I like the stares I'm getting on the road. A feature I love is the hidden spare tire. I never did like those tires on the rear. The Sportage has a more sleak look. I've read the cons on Consumer Reports but they do have this car #6 on their list of 20 best small utility cars. Only Hyundi's twin brother the Tucson is before the Sportage. But remember, Hyundi purchased Kia. It is the same car, rumors say the sportage drives better! I believe them. With taxes and exportation to Puerto Rico this suv went up to a whopping $25,000 and it is a 16V 2WD I4. Pretty expensive, but I don't mind as long as this brown babe lasts a fine 10+ years with me......read morehide

- Every thing about the Sportage is top notch, and my Dealership Leith of Fayetteville, NC is AWESOME
- Nothing yet
This is my 4th Kia(2001 Rio, 2004 Spectrum, 2005 Sportage, 2006 Sportage) I have unique perspective. I had some problems with my 05 vehicle and the service department could not resolve it, despite repeated efforts. When it wasn't acting up, I loved it.
After we decided the SUV had an internal problem, the dealership helped me negotiate with Kia and I am now in an Identical 06 Sportage, and my payments are identical. The old Sportage was meeting mileage goals set, the new one is beating both Highway and city by 5mpg. (24/29) and it is not even broken in yet.
People have mistaken my Sportage for their Lexus.....that is such a hoot!!!!!...read morehide
