A Cute Car...but Kia doesn't stand by Warranty

by Lindsey from Hammonton, NJ (7/03/08)
Pros:A cute car with great gas mileage
Cons:Broke down 6 times in 4 weeks

I bought a brandnew 2007 Kia Rio5 and I loved the car...for about a year. It is a cute looking car and is much roomier on the inside. However....Kia does not stand by their warranty. My car had to be taken too the dealer six times in 4 weeks for the same problem. Because this was under warranty, Kia wanted to fix the car as cheap as possible...so on the fifth time, I got a new engine; however, the new engine disturbed the computer, which brought me back for round six. Kia's consumer affairs department is not helpful and is quite rude. When you complain, they advise you to contact the better business bureau, which I did and a lawyer.

Morale of this story...things happen to cars and that is to be expected, but the problme with Kia is that they don't want to stand behind the warranty that they advertise to sell the car. If Kia would actually be helpful and fix issues on the first or even second try, then I would recommend the vehichle. HOwever, until Kia learns to honor their warranty, I would not recommend purchasing a vehicle.

The perfect car for the times

by Martin Holtz from Richmond California (7/02/08)
Pros:My Rio is a strong performer and reliable with good gas milage
Cons:No complaints

I have always loved my 2006 Kia Rio SX5. Thiere is room for me and three dogs. It has never let me down. It never seemed to really want to rev though until I took it to my favoite mechanics at Norhrs in San Leandro Ca for the 30,000 mile service. They changed the plugs putting in Bosch twin electrode Platinium plugs instead of the normal Champions that were in there. Now the Ria has more power and loves to rev. I love the alloy wheels and the good stereo. I am very happy with this car

A car worth buying.

by Thomas from Edmonton, Alberta (6/16/08)
Pros:Been enjoying my Rio5. Stylish, comfortable, great gas mileage, good sound system, decent overall.
Cons:Not the fastest acceleration off the mark but a great commuter car.

Although I have not had this car for very long I have already come to appreciate it. A great car for the single commuter. More than enough space for me, myself and my thoughts as I travel to and from work every day. Great mileage I recently went 530km on 31 litres of gas. For a small car I find a great deal of thought went into its style and design. A quiet ride on both city streets and highway alike. The heated seats are a definite plus. The one thing I miss is cruise control but no big deal considering the overall package the car has to offer.

This car is on fire, literally!

by Robert from San Leandro, CA (6/12/08)
Pros:Nothing!
Cons:Vehicle caught onfire

I've own the Kia Rio5 with only 4,300 miles on it and while I was on the freeway, the vehicle engine caught on fire! It's been a nightmare and now I'm fighting with insurance and dealers and lawyers, it's been a nightmare.

Recommneded as a commuter car -great value and MPG

by Ford Truck Guy from MPLS, MN (6/06/08)
Pros:Great Fuel, Excellent Value, Cummutes Great
Cons:No excess, no cruise control.

I bought this 2007 Rio5 as a commuter because I also own Supercrew Truck that I no longer wish to use for City commuting. I have no regrets whatsoever, I find myself avoiding the Truck whenever possible. Has just enough power to drop onto the Intertstate & compete. Has just enough room (I am 6'1"). I have had no problems at all (20k miles). Kia has made several mods to improve quality from previous models. I have the power Pkg and Auto trans...no issues. Acutally, it just had a little hail damage and insurance gave me a corolla rental during repairs; well the ride and control are clearly better in the Kia. I am going to have them tint the windows while it is the shop to sport it up a bit more. I would recommend this car.

Save yourself and don't buy a Kia!

by John from San Francisco, CA (6/05/08)
Pros:Nothing
Cons:Everything breaks

I own a 2006 Kia Rio5 that is soon going to the junk yard because all I ever wanted was a fuel efficient vehicle and something economical. Well the list of problems goes on and on. The transmission broke at 25,000 miles, took it to the dealership, rebuilt it and broke again 33,000 miles. The break lights stopped working because of a faulty break switch that Kia refused to replace. The power windows stopped working and had it replaced twice. The service center guy stated that this will probably happen again in the future. The brakes are made cheap and the whole interior scratches easy, the plastic is a joke! Ohh for the love of god don't buy a kia ever! their warranty service is such a scam. I've research problems with Kia's transmission and you hear it all across the message boards and people have made website about not buying a Kia. Do your own research and get something much better.

Seats don't fold well, no keyless or cruise. :(

by Sherry from RIverside CA (6/01/08)
Pros:Fuel Econ Great, 60,000 & runs good, Fantastic warranty for the $
Cons:No cruise control, key only door locks, seats only fold @ 45 degree angle, plastic bumer is fading.

For the money this has been a good car. Mine is a 2003, and I have almost 60,000. The dealer had to put in a new tranny, but it did not cost me anything, runs good now. The real beef I have with this car are the lack of things like keyless entry, no cruise control, getting power windos and AC forced me to get one in black, which I hate in CA because its like geting into a broiler. IF you live in southern ca and own a black car your just not thinking (or got trapped into it like me). I would like to get a MINi, but man, really expencive and the gas mileage is WORSE and it cost a ton more $. Let me think...

Trendy, functional

by Jenn from Houston, TX (4/07/08)
Pros:Trendy appearance, good fuel economy, comfortable
Cons:Acceleration needs to improve, hard to get power locks and windows

I like the sporty interior of the SX model and the smooth ride. It's very quiet and has a good sound system. It doesn't accelerate very well, and I couldn't get a model with power locks and windows, but it's a very good car for college students and teens.

A vehicle for the people

by WMH from The Colony, Texas (3/04/08)
Pros:Great MPG, Road Noise not an issue, turns on a dime, shifts smoothly,
Cons:Interior is made of cheap cloth and plastic that could fade quickly.

Interior
This is a great little car for somebody who (like me) is not looking to spend a lot of money on a car they are going to wear out to and from work. The functions of the vehicle are mechanically sound, and the fantastic warranty guarantees I will not be wasting any more money on car repairs. The interior of the vehicle has a lot more room than meets the eye, and it being a hatch back allows easy loading and unloading of anything from groceries or baby strollers, to long planks of wood from the Hardware Store. Although the interior is constructed with cheap fabrics and plastics, it could last through the years is properly cared for with common cleaning products found at your local automotive store.

**Basically**
This is not a luxury vehicle. It is an economy car designed to get you from point A to point B. I would recommend this car to anyone who does not want to waste a luxury vehicle on the daily commute to and from work. I would also recommend this car to people just starting out on their own who do not have a pot of gold hidden away.
