My Kia is sporty and cute!

by Tiffinay Black from Longview, Tx (8/10/08)
Pros:My Kia Spectra is sporty it has tinted windows, alloy wheels, and fog lights. Has great acceleration
Cons:The only thing that I found annoying was that I wish I had leather seat. The cloth ones get dirty.

My Kia is wonderfful and looks pretty good for a gas saver. I love it.

I love my Spectra

by Kris from Des Moines, IA (7/22/08)
Pros:Looks, price, fuel economy, new car smell!
Cons:Rough ride at times.

I bought my car about a month ago. So far, so good.
The interior still has that "new car" smell and is surprisingly roomy. My son is 6'2" and has plenty of head room.
I usually drive it in town, to and from work, so I'm not real sure about how many mpg I have been getting. It seems like a tank lasts a long time.
Mine is black with beautiful gold trim, which looks very sharp. I have proudly named my new member of the family "Bobby".
The seats are firm, yet comfortable. It handles very well and the windows seem large and bright. The windshield wipers work wonderfully. The stereo does sound alittle tinny.
Overall, I love my new Kia Spectra!

Enjoying the ride

by Happy Kia Owner from Dallas, TX (7/12/08)
Pros:Surprisingly peppy, quiet, comfortable
Cons:CD player doesn't play MP3 CDs

I've had my 2008 Spectra LX for 5 days, and have put about 120 miles on it. So far, so good!

I traded in a '98 Jetta that had obviously seen better days, and the difference was night and day. I prefer manual transmission and I find the Kia's gear changing tight and smooth. Lane changes feel poised and cornering is good, not spectacular. Unlike a PT Cruiser I've owned, I can make U-turns with ease.

The sound system, while unable to play MP3 CDs, is punchy and crisp, and the center floor console addition of an aux input is neat. In fact, this "cheap" car has just about power anything!

Fuel economy seems good, hard to say though since I'm still driving on the original tankful, and I've been pushing it maybe harder than I should...

All in all, I really like this little sedan, and it looks cool in black with the chrome accents.

Satisfied customer.

by Monchi from Houston, Texas (6/30/08)
Pros:Great gas mileage, roomy, instrument cluster has a great visibility, great radio, love the black int
Cons:Gear shifting feels...HUM? , lack of availability of colors, small "donut" spare tire.

I don't understand when someone says "poor gas mileage" because my daughter's is great on it, the instrument panel has great visibility for me, my leg room is better than Corolla's( 2006-08), I liked the price but the dealership sales personnel is really bad, they lack knowledge of the vehicles they sell, the spare tire is a hard "donut" type which I think is so down low to provide customers with these things. Ours is a stick shift. I was going to buy 2 of them but they did not have a black interior with white or red exterior, that is what I wanted. The check engine light came on and I retrieved the code (00442) and it was the gas cap not properly tight, and the other time was the tire low air pressure which actually means that the electronics and sensors are working properly. HOWEVER, the warranty is a fake in some specifics, sorry but the truth is a fact. I am expecting for my daughter to enjoy hers for a while. But the vehicle itself, we like it.

Not seeing the good mileage yet.

by Thomas C from Atlanta, GA (6/13/08)
Pros:Performs decently, inexpensive
Cons:Surprisingly bad gas mileage, clunky gear shift

I'm a bit confounded by all the praise on gas mileage. 390 miles on a tank? In city driving? It just seems impossible. I got 22mpg on my first tank, under 20mpg on the second. That's only 230 miles on a full tank (took almost 12 gallons to fill, less than that the time before). It's rated at 24mpg city, over 30 highway.

I don't drive it hard at all. I brake slowly and accelerate smoothly. I almost never use the A/C. I don't leave it idling. It's essentially empty except for me, so it's not burdened down by great weight. I don't drive fast, and it's all on well paved roads. I even leave windows closed most of the time so there's less drag. I don't understand how someone can nearly double the mileage I get in the exact same car.

Needless to say, I was incredibly disappointed when I saw how few miles I got on that second tank. I can only hope this third and onwards make for huge improvements. When I got in my car right after buying it, I really liked driving it. Now I get in and just thinking about the thing puts me in a bad mood. It's a good thing I don't have to drive far.

The other issue is that switching between gears feels very clunky. I always feel like I'm sort of stuck between, like the car isn't sure if I'm in drive or not. I back out of my parking space, switch to drive, and when I start it lurches forward hesitantly. I see someone else complained about this too.

(Also annoying that there's no indication of what gear you're in, no lights, no dashboard indicator, nothing. I just have to carefully count the number of "jumps" as I pull the gear shift back into R or D. Not a huge deal, but still a weird oversight.)

Lovin' my 08 KIA Spectra!

by Sadie from Wentzville, MISSOURI (6/10/08)
Pros:GREAT fuel economy, awesome factory stereo/CD player, very roomy
Cons:None yet

I just bought my 08 KIA Spectra, and am very satisfied thus far. I've heard so many horror stories about how "awful" KIA's are, but I think they are referring to when the KIA first came out. This car is awesome. It gets up and goes like you wouldn't expect. I have two booster seats and a car seat in the back, and they all have plenty of leg room. It's a pain to buckle them all, because it's a tight squeeze, but when you're getting 35MPG you can't complain about the little stuff!! The trunk is HUGE for such a small car, and the power windows and safety locks in the back are a great bonus. I love my KIA!

I LOVE MY KIA!!!!!

by Holly from Denham Springs, LA (6/01/08)
Pros:great fuel economy, very comfortable, zippy!!!!!
Cons:had a check engine light come on, but it was just a minor little problem.

I work out of my car, so with the Kia Spectra, I get great gas mileage and a comfy ride. The trunk is huge, and if I need to haul anything the seats fold down for extra space. I am extreamly satisfied with my KIA!!!
