My wife wanted one (Part four)

by eatonmm from Germany (7/10/08)
Pros:Highway comfort, off road capability, 22 MPG Average the past 3000 miles
Cons:City Miles Per Gallon, my wife nick-named the LR2---'Rover'

We recently returned from a short vacation in Bad Kissingen, where despite carrying two people and the back being fully loaded with two mountainbikes, clothes and gear (for biking, running, hiking, and ballroom dancing) we averaged 22.5 MPG on a combination of secondary roads (average 55 MPH) and autobahn (70-80 MPH on cruise control).
A few weeks before I took 'Rover' ' off road to the Grafenwoehr artillery ranges to do site visits. It was competent, comfortable, and handy (carried tools, test equipment, and one mountainbike) and the troops got a kick of me driving up to the firing positions and parking next to the Commander's Hummers behind the 'Gun Line.'
The 'Rover' has proven to be comfortable on the highway, and it handles well on secondary roads and on trails. The compact exterior and handling work well on narrow German roads while the interior allows plenty of room for packing gear. The steering is quick and accurate while the suspension soaks up bumps in rough terrain but keeps the tires firmly planted on the road.
For what we wanted the vehicle has proven to be perfect: great combination of comfort, and practicality.

Best Luxury Sub compact SUV in it's class

by Joseph from Lis Angeles, CA (6/14/08)
Pros:Great for City Driving, Interior design and comfort, Overall Value of this Vehicle.
Cons:Radio location was too low. Could add couple more interior storage.

Just traded my 05 Range Rover Sport for this LR2 HSE due to lower payment and gas mileage. My choice was (BMW X3, body style too old a little harsh for city driving) (Infiniti EX35 too expensive with Leather and other goodies add to it, funky exterior design) (Acura RDX I have to say I love this car, however at the end the LR2 just comes a little above of our decision) (VW Tiguan ....... Overall Exterior and Interior feels cheap).
After 3 days of owning this car my overall experience is still very impressive. Yes it's slow, and yes the radio is too low to change channels while driving and Yes the mpg can be better consider the car is slow, and yes the cargo space can be better. However all things considered, we still rated this is the best Vehicle amount all the luxury sub compact SUV.

LOVE MY LR2

by ASEH PATEL from PIGEON FORGE, TN (6/10/08)
Pros:able to conquer mountains, go off roading, while maintaing a good looking vehicle, very smooth,
Cons:could use more horse power

decent gas mileage is possible is driven properly. If i cruise on the interstate and keep it under 70, i get bout 27 mpg and in town is not bad with 19 but if i'm stuck in traffic it goes down to bout 15...i have the orange LR2. As a Orange-blooded Tennessee Volunteer, i loved the color. Other people had mixed opinions about it some people liked, while others despised it.

Highly recommended, you wont be disappointed

by Simon Smith from Haute Savoie, France (5/13/08)
Pros:Excellent driving experince, tactile GPS, ride, handling
Cons:Cost (higher in Europe - $60K with tax at 20% plus options)

I ordered my car in May in France and it was delivered in October 2007. Zero problems so far. Unlike other reviewers I dont have an issue with gas mileage as I ordered the diesel (Europe only I think) and fuel econony is much better than the gas V6. Recommend heated seats and screen if you live in a cold climate (eg. French Alps). I also owned the previous model and this one is much, much better (no squeaks, realiability issues etc). I've used it off-road and in the snow - no problems at all. If you're going to drive off-road or in harsh winter conditions order one of these and dont be tempted to save a few dollars with a Toyota RAV4.

Great Car to lease!

by Cody from Cincinnati, OH (5/02/08)
Pros:gps is great, interior is roomy, only car ont he road
Cons:gas mileage / premium only, gps isn't super great

This is a great car and well worth a lease. Not sure where it will be in a couple years toting gas prices but for now it's a great ride that I use casually to go places. I've never seen another LR2 on the road so it makes me feel 'special' and not to mention it's just a superb ride and better then any other car I've been on. I recommend it if your an adventurer type who's tastes are a bit different then everybody else. Can't say I would recommend you buy it though with the ever increasing gas prices but since I'm not a commuter I think it fits the bill perfectly for me.

A Great Vehicle

by Stephen from Memphis, TN (4/13/08)
Pros:Looks, Comfort, Features, Handling, Quality...
Cons:Could use more HP...

I have 14000 miles on my LR2 SE and really like it. It has been extrememly reliable, except for the sunroof issue that was present only in very early models. The handling is great and the ride is extremely smooth, usually things one must sacrifice for actual off-road performance. The BMW X3, Acura RDX and the LX RX models simply do not have even half the off road creds this vehicle has. And to be honest, I test drove the BMW and the Acura, and the LR2 has a far smoother, more comfortable ride.

I only wish that they had offered a more powerful engine and that I had known they would be offering the HSE model. Now my fully loaded SE is suddenly lower end. As for the power, only enthusiasts will miss an extra 50 HP.

*Also, I got mine in March of 2007, but it is considered a model year 2008. 8)

Pick a Different Car

by Aaron from Houston, Texas (4/11/08)
Pros:Interior is made to last, very sporty; Exterior holds up well also
Cons:Horrible Gas Mileage, Maintenance requires specialist; Special tools required

This vehicle has been nothing but a headache to me. Normal things that would go out on normal cars such as alternator, battery, therostat, work fine. On this car, it is always something that costs thousands in repair. Be sure to get the extended warranty. You'll need it. Fuel Line ruoture $1200, Intermitant Bearing Assembly $875, Timing belt $3700, radio $1200, Back Electric Window $$900, Sunroof $900, 0 2 Sensor $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Even Ford knows that they made a mistake buying this company. Other than that it is a great car.

My wife wanted one (Part three)

by Eatonmm from Germany (4/08/08)
Pros:Ride comfort, exceptional Seats, highway fuel mileage (23-25 mpg), off-road competence
Cons:City fuel mileage (18-19 mpg)

We ordered the LR2 in November and picked it up from the Kaiserslautern Land Rover Dealer in March. We have driven it for over a thousand miles with an average of 21 mpg. I especially enjoy the off-road ability (haven't stuck it yet) and yet on the asphalt it has a wonderful blend of handling and ride comfort. Driving it is plain fun.
The only criticism we have had is from my wife's family bakery; the bakers thought we had too much money. We love the interior luxury and the high driver seat position combined with the compact exterior dimensions.
Initially the Navigation System was a bit complicated but my wife figured it out. Love the cold weather package with the heated seats and the glass defrost system (melts the ice in less then 20 seconds). Would recommend you check the seats out, they might be a bit narrow for some folks (we find them to work great when going around the curves).

The Best Mid Sixe SUV on the Market for the price

by Mark from Pasadena, Ca (3/24/08)
Pros:Great looking car that is fun to drive and lots of luxury features for half the price
Cons:My Bluetooth doesn't work in the car because I have a Blackberry

I purchased the car in July when it first came out and I have been so happy with it. I've already driven it 14,000 miles and have not had any issues. I also liked that they had a complete maintenance program for 4 years.
