2005 Lexus ES 330 User Reviews
- Smooth ride, comfortable interior, quality car
- One thing - rough transmission - hesitation or logic mistakes with light shift changes
Love everything in it but the transmission. I will say that altough I like the car overall the 32K car should not have a tranny that jumps and bucks at times. The dealer says this an acceptable performance for this as it has a adaptive module ("feature?)". Doesn't work "right" in my opinion. It is better now after being reset and after 10000 miles more than when I bought it but the error is clearly noticable and I have to say still annoys me.
The only other complaint or suggestion is that there is a travel computer/mileage computer option on the steering wheel and I think a better feature on wheel would be the remote radio control buttons which I miss from my last car. Remote stereo volume controls would be far better and more helpful use of this real estate. I dont' need to check ave mpg and remaining miles in my tank daily. A nice car and ride - much smoother than my Maxima....read morehide

- love navigation system, woodgrain, very luxurious interior, very confortable ride and lots more.
- hesitation when accellerate (sometimes )
I bought my first ES 330 lexus on 11/25/05, and still LOVE IT !!!. very confortable, love ventilated seats, navigation system, interior is very luxurious especially woodgrain. I love everything about it, except it sometimes jolt a little at approximately 20 mph, once you get over 30-40 mph, then is very powerful and very smooth. For a luxury car in $30k range, I recommend the ES 330....read morehide

- Comfortable, nice looking, high quality features and finishings
- Slight hesitation and lurch when accelerating, front seat cup holders too shallow
I've had my 2005 ES330 for six months. It's comfortable to drive and ride in and glides smoothly down the road. Inside and outside finishings seem to be of higher quality than the other more expensive cars I test drove: Mercedes, BMW, Audi, and Volvo. The Mark Levinson sound system is nice, the six CD changer is in the front center console to the driver's right, which is much more convenient than other cars with CD changers in the trunk. The navigation system works well and is easy to learn how to use. I'm getting good gas mileage and the trunk holds a lot of cargo. My only complaints are that the car sometimes (not always) hesitates for a couple of seconds and then lurches forward slightly when I accelerate. Also, the driver and front passenger cup holders are too shallow to hold a drink securely when making a tight turn. Turning a corner at slow speed caused my small water bottle to fly out of the holder and onto the floor of the passenger side several times. I won't drive with a cup of coffee in a commuter cup because of this. If the cup holder was one or two inches deeper it would solve the problem. I'll buy another Lexus when the time comes....read morehide

- MPG better than 2001 ES, soft ride, excellent interior finish, great paint
- extremely poor transmission shifting, Low milage 17" tires, needs more power, cheap trunk
This is the forth ES 300/330 I have owned and for the first time I am unhappy with the way this car's tranmission shifts (or lack of shift). There is a hesitation between gear changes, kind of like a slipping clutch would act in a standard shift transmission. My head goes forward then snaps back when the next gear kicks in as I go from 0 to 60 mph.
Service manager says "you will get used to it, and it will improve with time". Should this be? In a car that cost $38,000? Currently have 1,000 miles on.
Also, to make the ride soft, Lexus has OEM 17" tires Bridgestone, Turnza tires on the ES330. In the fine print they warn you that these tires may not last 20,000 miles. GREAT!!--will need new tires in less than two year? @ $145.00 each.
Maybe I should have bought the Acura I was looking at....read morehide

- No trim specified for this review
- quiet, great ride great overall car
I'm not writing about the 330-- years ago I had an ES 300 and it saved my life. I was riding down I 10 in Florida following a car about 100 feet in front of me at about 75 mph when the car in front suddenly swerved from the left to the middle lane. Right in front of me was a large log across the entire left lane--it must have fallen off a logging truck. I had to swerve hard to the right, almost at a right angle to avoid hitting it. My 300 took it like a champ--I'm sure 90% of all the other cars would have rolled at that maneuver. It's hard to imagine that the new 330's don't have that same capability....read morehide

- Beautiful, the ES330 floats down the highway.
- While accelerating, the car loses all power at 20 mph, then lurches forward.
The service manager said this is because the computerized throttle has to take a second to "think" what gear it wants to go into. The sales manager said it is because the ES has the best emission control system of all the Lexus', and it bogs down the transmission somewhat. I say this is unsatisfactory....read morehide
