I bought a 2007 IS 250 in Oct. 2006, and I have had no problems with it whatsoever. Other reviewers have complained about squeaky brake problems but i have not experienced any such problems; and the brake dust is typical (my neighbors have a BMW 325i and 550 and they complain about the brake dust on their cars as well). The braking is incredible and the ride is smooth, quiet, and a joy. Other reviewers also complain about a blind spot, but all cars have a blind spot and the IS 250's is no worse than any other car I have driven. The trunk space is surprisingly large for a sports sedan (much larger than the Infiniti G35's trunk space), and the acceleration and performance of the 2.5L 6-cylinder is perfect. On the highway I regularly get 30-32 MPG and I drive fast, usually 90 mph. If you really need to feel your head jerk, your body sink into your seat, and get to 60 mph a second or two faster than the IS 250 can deliver, then get the IS 350 - but your MPG greatly suffers; and in this age of $3.00+ per gallon costs the thrill did not exceed the long term costs for me. Besides the engine, the IS 350 is identical to the IS 250.
The backseat space is small, but really no different than other cars in its class (e.g. compare the BMW 325i). If you inspect the car before buying, this limited backseat space should not come as a surprise. And the interior styling and features of the IS 250 are superior and more refined than the BMW 325i or the Infiniti G35's. The car ride is incredibly quiet, maybe too quiet for those who like to hear the engine growl, but for those who like to be able to talk and hear your music on the highway the noise dampening is excellent.
Granted the car does not handle like the BMW's or the Inifiniti. However, what it lacks in handling it more than makes up for in luxury, superior styling, and layout. It's crash test ratings are impeccable, and it has so many airbags in the car that you feel almost compelled to find out how they managed to fit so many in the car. The sound system is excellent - solid bass response and good sound separation. I don't know how they did it, but you can actually listen to music at a high volume and still carry on a conversation with your passenger. The GPS system works well, however, I do wish that it had a real-time traffic update integrated with the GPS system as that would be the most helpful information to have while driving.
I truly believe this is the best car in its category and I am completely satisfied with my purchase and the car's performance.
