2005 Lexus IS 300
There are 5 user reviews for the SportCross trim shown below
- beautiful car, only 3600 like it in the USA, lots of room, plush interior, great pickup and handling
- fuel economy is below average for its class
"Whoa, what type of car is that?" You will here this a lot if you buy a Sportcross. Made in Japan, only 900 of these were sold each year from 2002 to 2005. People who love cars, especially Japanese, will just gawk at it.
It has more than three times the space of a regular is 300, has the same clean modern plush Lexus interior, Toyota quality and reliability, and is amazingly fun to drive. When I bought this is was a little more expensive than my price range, but after giving it a test drive I HAD TO OWN IT!
This car has the space of an small SUV and the power and handling of a sportscar. I have gotten mine to go 132MPH even with more than 100 pounds of cargo in the back. The steering is very responsive and precise.
The interior is simply beautiful. Leather everywhere (though it is officially an option almost all cars sold are all leather), a rearview mirror that auto dims and has a digital compus, an extra light plug so you have a spot for both your radar dectector and your cell phone.
The back seat is quite nice. I am 5-11 and would not mind a long ride in it. I would say 6'2 or above might find it a little tight. There is an leather armrest that comes down when there are two people and moves up providing room for three.
The Sportscross is one of the only hatchback made by Lexus as well as its ownly rear-wheel drive, along with the regular IS300. I strongly prefer RWD, it is simply more fun to drive. This is a big reason to get an IS300 over a GS or an ES....read morehide

- Attractive, comfortable, reliable.
- For the price and the poor fuel economy, why not buy a gas hog SUV?
Of course it's a good car with excellent service! Lexus has established that good name. But what's with the poor fuel economy on this relatively small model car? Not exactly a leader in that department. If you, unlike Lexus, are looking toward the near future (triple or quadruple the gas prices) wait it out, until these car companies get the message....read morehide

- the is 300's exterior is almost perfect;low profile tires and e-shift come standard
- the fuel economy could be better;rear seating is very small;doesn't really have a center console.
This is my first Lexus and I'm pretty happy with it.I purchased a pre-certified 2002 IS 300 Sportcross with 37,000 miles and it feels like a new car.I originally wanted a sedan, and not the "station wagon",but after a while, you start to enjoy the Sportcross because it really doesn't look like a wagon.
If you like the IS,I really urge you to take a test drive. The only other con is that for a sports car,I was hoping for a little more than 215 hrp.
A little FYI,the IS 300 will have a new design for the 2006 model,so I would check out the new design at lexus.com before you make a purchase.Later....read morehide

- Silky smooth transmission, quiet ride, zippy, agile, responsive, stylish
- interior is crowded especially with baby car seat, ride is a little bumpy
previous car was a '99 audi a6 avant - i miss the awd and the soft ride, but not the mechanical problems, manufacturer recalls, and hardware failures. the sportcross is more narrow and short which is makes it very nimble and agile, but it is also crowded and a little bumpy. the car is very sporty and the interior detailing is well conceived. it is a great city car, and especially nice to drive on the freeway. the best asset is the high reliability and low maintenance cost. if you are considering a sportcross, check out the other lexus values, as you may find that you can get a larger, softer riding lexus for about the same price. conclusion: this is the poor man's land cruiser......read morehide
