- extreme reliability, very comfortable, gorgeous (unlike german cars), great braking, etc.
- wind noise problem but dealer fixed it
This car is absolutely gorgeous. It's $20,000 cheaper than the MB S Class and much more reliable (German car quality has slipped in recent years, I know first hand). It has fantastic handling and fantastic acceleration. I'm sometimes able to achieve 39 miles per gallon the highway and I usually get 21 in the city. Great gas mileage! Fantastic sound system, great braking, very comfortable to sit in, very quiet and smooth.
The german cars are a far cry from this car. Buy it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...read morehide

- reliability, quiet, high resale value, low maintenance, Safe(compare crash test results)
- NAV lock while in motion(safety thing-but annoying) corrected by override
bimmer free maintenance
have fun not paying anything for 4yr/50000
then get hit by ridiculously expensive repair bills after that.
you paid $1500 a year for Lexus?
be prepared to pay 1500 for each repairs done on bmw
you'd trade in after warranty expired? then get hit by LOW resale value.
And to people comparing LEXUS to german cars:
They're totally different. Germans are more better driving focused while Lex is more of cushy, quiet ride like American luxuries(cadillac, lincoln)
THis is why Lexus is best luxury seller in US but not doing well in Europe.
To people saying Lexus is Toyota: yes, it's a Toyota. Lexus uses Some of their parts on Lexus. Why not use it? Toyota is already better than the competitors, their parts are nice. It'd be foolish NOT to use it. Look at AUDI, they use nice VW parts too.
Lexus=Toyota.. That's a compliment.
I bought my LS460 because i prefer quiet, and cushy ride.
Those seeking European driving should buy European imports....read morehide

- Quiet, Mark Levinson sound system
- Numb handling; uninspiring ride; mediocre overall; fuel economy; no free maintenance like BMW!
I've always heard good things about Lexus, so after my last BMW, I decided to switch. I've owned my LS for about a year now, and I'm just unimpressed. The ride, handling, comfort, luxury and style can be summed up in a couple of words: plain vanilla. The car is nice overall, but it's just mediocre in it's execution. The style is uninspiring (looks mysteriously like a 7-series), the performance is lackluster, the engine absolutely lacks the thrill my BMW V8 had, the inside just seems cheaper, and it just doesn't have the same feeling my beemer had overall.
I used to work in the auto industry, on the manufacturer level. Nowadays, car companies don't make cars anymore, they just assemble them. You have to look at who supplies their components and parts to truly understand their essence. For instance, BMW part suppliers in Germany manufacture high-end, luxury components only, considering BMW only sells luxury cars (excluding their motorcycles of course). On the other hand, Lexus is owned by Toyota, which produces mainstream, generally non-luxury vehicles. Consider economies of scale: it is logical that Lexus use Toyota downmarket components in their vehicles to keep costs down. This fact is one reason Lexus vehicles are always cheaper than "equivalent" European competitors, logical right?
Over this past year, I've just come to miss the subtle attention to detail my 7-series had that the LS lacks. Everything from the double-pane windows, to the incredible torque curve of the engine, to the suspension, to the power-assist closing side doors, to the directional parking lights (select depending on which side of the street you're parked on so your car's less likely to get hit---genius), etc. etc. Overall, the LS just doesn't feel like a true luxury car like my beemer did. The leather, buttons, plastics, body panels, etc. just feel downmarket compared to my old 7-series. The LS just lacks that presence, solidity, and essence German sedans possess. I suppose this feeling is due in part to the fact that, in the end, it is still just a Toyota.
Despite my feelings for my old beemer, I have to say Lexus did do a nice job with the LS. I really like the ML sound system especially. If you're set on a Japanese luxury car, Lexus is tops. From my experience, Nissan/Infiniti have never matched Lexus in quality and I find Acura to be near-luxury, not really in the same caliber as Lexus either. For me personally, I just miss the subtle characteristics of the beemer you take for granted until they're absent. Plus, I miss the free maintenance I had with BMW. I've paid well over $1,500 in maintenance on this Lexus so far this year!...read morehide

- No trim specified for this review
- NICE CAR FOR VERY SMOOTH SURFACE
- RIDE ROUGH,UNCOMFORTABLE
VEHICLE PERFORMS WELL ON SMOOTH ASPHAULT SURFACES. SUSPENSION NEEDS WORK, ANY LITTLE BUMP TRANSMIT HIGH IMPACT TO BODY RUSULTING IN BACK PROBLEMS AND FATIGUE. ON INTERSTATES TRAVELED BY HEAVY TRUCK AND SOME CONCRETE INTERSTATES VIBRATION IS EXCESS IN FRONT WHEELS AND STEERING WHEEL. OLDER LEXUS LS RODE BETTER AND WERE MORE CONFORTABLE. WITH TODAYS TECHONOLOGY THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR NOT HAVING AN EXCELLETN RIDE....read morehide

- BRAND NAME, SOFT LEATHER.
- HAD TO GET NEW TRANSMISSION IN THE FIRST SIX MONTHS OF NEW OWNERSHIP... VERYDISAPPOINTNING
LOW FUEL EFFICIENCY, BOLD LOOKS, FOR A V8 IT IS KIND OF SLUGGHISH, AND MOST IMPORTNANTLY... I THINK MY SON'S NEW HYUNDAI GENESIS APPEARS TO HAVE A MUCH DURABLE TRANSMISSION THAN WHAT TOYOTA USED ON THIS CAR. I WENT FROM A CADILLAC STS-V TO THIS ONLY TO REALIZE THAT FOR SOME REASON MY "DRIVING HABITS" WERE "TOO MUCH FOR THE CAR TO HANDLE"... AT LEAST THIS WAS WHAT THE DEALER TOLD ME WHEN I HAD TO TOW IT OUT OF MY GARAGE TO THE DEALER AFTER I TRIED TO TAKE OUT TO WORK ONE MORNING. THE DEALER GAVE ME ANOTHER ONE, BUT AFTER LOOKING ONTO MY SON'S CAR... I MIGHT BE DRIVING A GENESIS IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS.
TOYOTA REALLY LET ME DOWN THIS TIME....read morehide

- Great power, amazing engine & trans, good looking & very comfortable
- Paint chips to easily
We have put on 19K miles on our LS 460 and think it is a great car. On a cross country trip we got some suprising fuel efficiency numbers; 28MPG on I70 from Utah up the Rockies and 32MPG down the Eastern side, on to the plains of Kansas. These numbers are amazing considering we were driving a 4,600lb, 8 cylinder, 380hp vehicle at speeds of 75-85mph most of the time( could not resist hitting a 100mph a few times, this machine is as calm at 100 as it is at 60mph). My wife drives this car in LA traffic and averages about 22mpg....read morehide

- Traded my 2002 LS 430 for 2008 LS 460. I didn't think they could improve but how wrong I was.
- Can not find any on this great car.
This is my third LS and I am very pleased with everything on the car. The hold button that lets you release the brake while in drive at a light is really neat. GPS improved and the fact that you can record CD's on a hard drive combined with the Mark Levison audio is fantastic. Over all the car and the gas milage is super. You could not ask for a quiter cabin and comfortable ride that the LS 460 gives....read morehide
