- very comfortable
- buttery handling, lexus premium (they dont give too much discount)
just got this car. this is my first lexus and already i feel like i'm doomed (in a good way) to keep buying lexus from now on.
this is my 6th japanese car. the thing is i've been telling myself not to get another japanese make (not that i don't like japanese cars, in fact i think they are much more reliable than american or german cars). i've been meaning to get a domestic for a new car (you know, trying to be a little patriotic here), with GM and ford giving ridiculous discounts, but once again i ended up with a japanese make
that said, i really like this car a lot. granted i've only had it for a week, so i can't make any objective opinion on the realiability yet, but if any of the toyotas i've owned (land cruiser, camry and avalon) are indication, this car would also have a great reliability.
it's also very comfortable (though i find my camry to the ultimate commfortable car as in i can drive it anywhere anyday as a bump-around car. i've yet to be making enough money to feel comfortable in that sense driving an rx). rx also gives a pretty smooth ride for an "suv" (i only put those "" there cuz we all know that this is a cross over vehicle based on camry platform). but it's definitely not as smooth as i expected it to be. i guess i had too much of a high expectation, but it's nonetheless worlds apart smooth compared to land cruiser or a wrangler for that matter.
as for the styling i give it a high mark, because come on, if i was gonna give it a "1" or "2" like some others have on this review, WHY WOULD I BUY IT?!?! i'm not stupid to throw $40k on some car i find so repulsively ugly. and if some ppl are going to complain how other suvs are sooooo much better looking, why didn't they spend the $40k of $50k on that car instead of on RX they find so hideous? that said, although i agree the styling is a little feminine, and kinda bland, i still like it a LOT. but then again, i think with exception of ML, i find mdx, x5, volvo all very stylish. and i find the interior finish very very very nice.
as for performance, other than the comfortable ride, i find the handling and braking a little buttery (similar to many american cars i.e. buick, lincoln etc). but then unlike some others on the review deriding its performance compared to other german made suvs, i didn't buy this car to outrun and out-turn every, or for that matter, any vehicle on the road. i want to be a safe driver. and not get a ticket. for responsible drivers, this car will deliver a solid and very satisfying performance.
the only problem i had was with the dealership. don't get me wrong, i had an amazing time at the dealership - the salesperson couldn't be nicer and more helpful. but they just wouldn't give me a break on the price!!!! i couldn't get the car for less than it's base msrp price. what is up with that? all the other car dealers are begging to take their car away, giving employee discounts and what not, and lexus is just not budging at all. and what is up with all the option nonsense? it's like you HAVE TO get an option no matter what. well, at least i got it for the base msrp...
and one other problem i see with this (perhaps it's not a problem), car is that it's so common. i mean i'm the 5th person to get this car in my cul-de-sac of 9 houses.... i guess that just shows that this IS a pretty decent car after all.
