- Interior well designed
- Hesitation upon acceleration
I have loathed this vehicle since the first week I drove it.
There is a design feature that causes a hesitation when I accelerate at ~2200 RPM (commonly found when trying to change lanes on the freeway, or merging on to an expressway, or normal driving around town).
Even with the software upgrade from the factory, the hesitation does not go away. It is part of Lexus' tranmission design, to have very smooth shifting. It's amazing the engineers at Lexus built this feature.
The result is when I try to accelerate quickly, the vehicle doesn't respond initially. Upon stepping on the gas, nothing happens for a moment or two, then it drops down in gear and surges ahead. At the least it's an inconvenience I experience every day, at the worst a safety hazard due to first the delay in acceleration, then rocketing forward at a higher rate of speed.
This is a common complaint among RX330 owners, as the three dealerships I've used for routine service in my area are all aware of the problem from other customers. I''ve even had other RX330 drivers come up to me at the gas station and ask if they've had a similar problem.
My recommendation: Avoid this vehicle. The acceleration hesitation will likely drive you bonkers, as it's something you may experience every time you get behind the wheel. Lexus has forever lost me as a customer.
