2006 Lotus Elise User Reviews
- Not Available
- Fun to drive. fuel economy
- Tight interior, not much storage room
I just bought this car after much research into it. I put 210 miles on it so far and just put in 7 gallons of gas today. I was shocked to get basically 30 mpg when I have been having a blast driving it at the same time. I have owned a boxster in the past and must admit this is a very different car. If you are into amenities and gadgets in your car then the boxster is a better choice. I also felt the boxster was as good of handling however my elise doesn't have the sports suspension. Most people that have ridden in the elise comment on how good the ride is which is party why I avoided the sports suspension. I also have a friend with the John Cooper Mini and the Elise has slightly more pickup however the Cooper having a backseat is more geared towards a family with young children. Getting the luxury package and star shield appears to be the way to go and sport package if you want to go to the track once in a while. In addition to fun driving and an overall comfortable ride I was surprised how easy it is to carry on conversations while going 50-60 mph. You feel the breeze but you really do not need to raise your voice at all to talk. I'm 6'1 and weigh about 200 lbs and I really do not think anyone taller than me could fit into the car. I don't think anyone weighing more than me would enjoy the car either as I'm a tight fit....read morehide

- KILLER LOOKS
- Not a ferrari, not easy to drive
anybody who's gonna buy this should know, the most important is the appearance...And honestly it rox from the outside..
Interior is superb too..
However its not as fast as a lambo or an SLR, but fair enough..for a normal sports car...enough to overtake trucks...thats 4 sure..
Gears a bit hard on me...SO is the clutch..But after some getting used to...Its gonna be ok......read morehide

- agile, quick, non-pretentious, chick magnet, affordable
- shows toyota mr2 lineage, smile has not left my face
The Exige is WAY better, but considering how amazing everything else is about it, being second only to your big brother is a grand achievment indeed. Figure you are a $5000 upgrade with a turbo away from eating GT3 Porsches, Ferrari 360CS, and Lambo Gallardos alive for less than one third the cost is a fine accomplishment too. That does not put you in the 'tuner' or 'rice rocket' category because you start with a pure sports car, not a Japanese daily driver on roids. EVO? pfft, I'll send you back to your cubicle with the stock Exige S.
At the weekly Crystal Cove car event in Newport Beach, women actually approached us over our Ferrari bretheren (to which I own a 550 as well).
If you want a cute sports car with carpets, stereos and a/c, go buy a Miata or Mini. If you are a serious driver that can find a twisty or a track that will last all day long on a tank of gas, you will be giddy with delight!...read morehide

- Best handling car in the world, great bargain for the price, incredible looks
- AC is quite weak, no bumpers, difficult entry/exit
I have had mine for 7 months and have put 14k miles on it as a daily driver. The driving experience is something that must be felt to be believed. The steering is quick and incredibly direct - you can feel the texture of the road through the steering rack. The lack of creature comforts means that it is a difficult car for most people but a hard core enthusiast will truly get his/her moneys worth. Having taken it to several track days and Autocross I must say that th Elise is also a wonderful track toy....read morehide

- Head turner, excellent handling, babe magnet
- too spartan for road trip but who cares..
Drove the car into town the first time I bought it and people actually waved and smiled. People came near asking whether it's a buggy( small like an RC car) and girls want to hop into it.. not the most exotic or powerful, but I can vouch for the most fun, ever. Even the cooper conv cant beat this. Some Malaysian carmaker owns Lotus now. Good for them....read morehide

- Best handling car I have ever driven, Excellent straight line performance - and beautiful
- Firm ride (not really a "con") and spartan interior - the way it shoudl be.
I fell in love with Lotus and my Europa in the lare 1970's. This is the first new Lotus in years and it that harkens back to what Colin Chapman orighinally envisioned. Superior handling, light weight and adequate horsepower = unsurpassed performance - and in this case superb value. With this new model, Colin must be smiling from above. This is by far the best value in a performance car in the world....read morehide
