I have an 86 Esprit in my garage and decided another Lotus was in order. The Esprit has it beat in looks. I still have people stop me and ask me about the Esprit. I have a feeling the Elise will get just as many requests. Performance wise the new powerplant of the Elise outperforms my Esprit. Hey, it is 25 years old and has only 4 cylinders putting out a mere 215 HP. Don't expect to pack much as the trunk space (practically none) matches my Esprit. When are they going to redsign this 'W' shaped instrument panel. Don't expect this to be an everyday car, but if you want to pull up to a sold out event at the Palms this will get you in the door.
There are not a lot of options and the standards are very basic: A/C, power windows, power mirrors and no cruise control. Really, do you want cruise control when you hit 100 MPH and you are only in thrid gear.
The mid engine distributes the weight nicely and you can take a cloverleaf on ramp as fast as you want without squealling the tires....read morehide
