- Excellent manual transmission and shifter
- Idiotic lack of new engine in Sport model
Purchased As Not Purchased
The constant drum of "too little power" finally cause Mazda to up the ante from 155 HP to 185 HP. Now, the "old" engine of 2013 was the same in all three levels. For some unbelievable reason Mazda chose NOT to put the new engine in the Sport model...the only model available with a 6 speed manual transmission. In the literature Mazda boasted how the manual shifter had the shortest throw of its class and that it was based on the Miata shifter. I test drove it and it was excellent. I was planning on buying one as soon as the upped the horsepower. Well, I am really miffed with Mazda. Who made this horrendous decision? After touting Zoom Zoom, they now have given the only really enjoyable model the least HP. Makes zero sense to me. Why split the production line to have 2 engines instead of one, like the 2013 line? I will obviously look elsewhere.
