Purchased As Used
I was looking for a smaller car that got great fuel economy, was comfortable enough for hour long trips with back seat passengers and looks professional enough to drive to the corporate office. I tried the Ford Focus (nice, but behind the competition), Honda Civic (another good pick, but boring to drive), Toyota Corolla (ugly AND boring) and the Chevy Cruze. The Cruze was nice, but a check engine light turned on while I was test driving and the dealership had to pick me up. The Mazda is the best small car I have driven--and now own. The steering isn't super numb like most newer cars. The handling is razor sharp and makes curvy roads a joy. The highway ride is smooth but not floaty and it stops on a dime without being too touchy. Fuel economy is lower than the competition, but with a butter smooth 5 speed and that rev-happy engine, it's hard not to go fast. The grill looks little... eager, but I like that it stands out in a crowd. So far, I'm glad I opted for the Mazda3. Everything else seems like another car.
