Purchased As Used
Overall I am satisfied with the purchase of my 2010 Mazda 3. I test drove other vehicles in its class including the Focus, Fusion, Civic, Jetta, Corolla and Elantra. With the exception of the Jetta, the other cars just felt flimsier and the pickup was nowhere as good. I wanted a car that I knew would last, and I do feel like I got that with my purchase.
Among the drawbacks: the interior picks up scratches easily, the horn sounds like it's from a video game and I've read that Mazda repairs are more expensive than other cars in its class, with the exception of the Jetta. I also have had problems with my windows. They don't seem to go down smoothly and one day the passenger side did not work at all. I was told it was frozen shut and that it was a common problem, although in my 16 years of driving I've never come across this issue. I got a good a price on my Mazda, however I was surprised that automatic locks and cruise control are not a standard feature. My biggest complaint has to do with the warranty. When I purchased the vehicle the dealership was clueless as to what exactly was covered. In fact I was told even the battery would be covered, but it turns out it was not. Additionally, my car needed to be towed, but the 24 hour towing service that's supposedly included in the warranty never showed up. Also, I had been told that I could take my Mazda to a non-Mazda repair shop if I had issues - a convenient offering given that I don't live near a Mazda repair shop. But I called several non-Mazda repair shops and they didn't want to do deal with fixing problems under warranty. Lastly, the handle in the backseat fell out within three months of buying the car. I'm guessing that's not a widespread problem though.
Again, overall I am happy with my purchase, but I think in hindsight I would go with the Jetta.
