Purchased As New
okay so i looovveee my car! Ive had it now for two years and over 36,000 miles. Its been very low maint. PROS: good fuel economy, loovvee my turn radius hehe i can get in and out of ANYWHERE. I cant help but stare at it after its all washed and shiny love the sport look.I felt silly lookin at mini vans i really wanted a sport utility but the price of one was too high and driving this doesnt make me feel like im old it is def more sporty then others on the market. I have 1 child, a husband, two older parents and an occasional visiter from out of town which is one of the reasons why i bought it. I needed something affordable that would sit at the very least six. At this price range nothing comes close. We were looking at the 9 but price range for the 9 was too high with almost same 3rd row seating room. I purchased the 5 when my daughter was a new born and i couldnt imagine not having rear sliding doors. I dont have to worry about dinging the paint when i get my baby in or out of vehicle. Love love love that all the seats fold down. i've moved stuff u would never imagine. huge bbq pits, 55 inch dlp tv, ceramic floor tiles with grout and all, i used and abuse my 5 like it was a truck at times. CONS: NO REAR HEAT... hate that. The rear Air is not strong enough to reach all the way back to third row, wish they had ind. climate control for each seat. Power steering locks up when turned hard right or left for more then 5-10 seconds and ur not moving. You have to turn off engine then turn wheel to right and turn back on so u can unlock it. Freaked out when that happend the first time. Was trying to get out of a tight parking space into heavy traffic and had wheel turned and ready. The rear seats really are made for children or small adults but great extra to have. The tires are expensive when they need to be replaced. Wish the rear seats had more power outlets. Over all i dont think i would have been as happy with any other vehicle. ZOOM-ZOOM!!...read morehide

- ugly. claustrophobic. No power

I looked at the Madza 5 twice. I took it on the freeway to test it. The ride was very bumpy. I floored the pedal and the engine transmission hesitated. It excellerated very slowly. The engine sounded stressed out. The engine is very much underpowered for the car. Looking close, the exterior and interior look mismatched. the seats are hard as a rock. I bought another car....read morehide

- Roomy enough to forget it's not a minivan
We traded a Saturn Vue in to get more room for our growing family.
Teens and a little guy were getting too big to squish in to our Vue for annual family road trips. Honestly, my choice was a bit smaller Mazda- the RX 8 has been a favorite of mine since it was introduced all those years ago! but, still too many to fit into the dream car. RX8's big sister, the 5, is an excellent choice...
We drive to Minnesota every year.
This year, we were a little nervous about our trip. New car and the five of us drove for SIX WEEKS and more than 8,000 miles, around the Untied States (Florida West to Cali, North to Oregon, east to Minnesota and Chicago before heading south through Virginia to get home again). We drove around Yellowstone, Craters of the Moon and Mount Rushmore. Where ever we went, we were pleased with the performance of our 7 month old Mazda.
It's safe to say we know every inch of this vehicle. We have driven it in every element and path. No complaints about ride quality, nor can we complain about comfort.
PROS: This car handles magnificently! My Teens think this is a CON because the brakes work too well, the gas is too easy and the steering works too easily.
heh heh heh silly kids! That's why I bought it! I love the responsive steering and ability to as another reviewer said, "Turn on a dime" Zoom Zoom quickly becomes Yee Haw! as I gently, but swiftly accelerate. Stops are equally swift, but no whiplash!
Seats are very comfy, we packed the sixth (3rd row) seat with a cooler and snacks, the 15 year old boy sat next to that of course and the 18 year old girl and our 6 year old boy shared the 2nd row happily enjoying the fold out snack tray and stow away spaces inside seats. We even put seat back organizers in and no one complained of being cramped.
There were even times we flattened out the seats behind the driver and let him stretch out while I drove a bit. **Not legal in all states, and not for children** but very comfy ( I even tried it). Sound system was great, and we love the faders. Front and Rear outlets were handy and we used a splitter to add functionality.
The tires are filled with Nitrogen and handled beautifully ($79 with a 3 year all inclusive warranty on tires- even road hazards)
CONS- only two: The air conditioning doesn't reach the 2nd and 3rd rows unless specifically aimed and at highest blow range (which freezes us out in the front seat). Road noise is a bit annoying, but not much worse than any other car I have driven. The radio doesn't need to be too loud to be heard over it.
It has been almost a year since I traded a beloved Vue for the Mazda 5. I haven't regretted it yet. In fact, I still get a little giddy when I approach my black beauty! I look forward to buying one for my daughter... although she is looking at the Mazda3......read morehide

- Fuel economy is good, roomy, drives very well
- No real issues
Going from a regular van (dodge caravan) to the mazda 5 had me worried at first. Losing much of the space we had with 2 children and a dog, having to travel with luggage etc had me worried at first but I have quickly lost my worries and absolutely love my mazda 5!! The fuel economy is definitely better as well as we are both commuters.
We have also driven with 6 passengers and it was much more comfortable than I had imagined (and I rode in the third row).
The only problem we have encountered is a faulty check engine light and we are just having a problem getting the gear into first which we are taking it to the dealer for (it only has 10,000km).
Other than that I love it and would recommend it to anyone!...read morehide

- Fuel economy, assembly quality, interior amenities, size, versatility, driving characteristics
- Eats expensive tires, road noise, wind noise, could use a bit more power at times
I've had my Mazda5 for some time and have almost 70,000 miles accumulated already (I am an outside sales rep.) My experience with the 5 has been nothing short of falling in love with a vehicle. The size is perfect for parallel parking on crowded city streets, the mileage is phenomenal (provided I don't drive with a lead foot,) the versatility and space inside the vehicle is absolutely amazing, not to mention the comfort of the four forward seats. Build quality is outstanding and everything functions as intended. I was surprised when I first drove the 5...the driving dynamics are incredible. Not at all like a minivan or SUV. I would say that the dyanamics are is close to a sporty mid-size sedan. My main reasons for purchase? One, it's an unbelievable value....out the door loaded for under twenty grand. Two, the availability of a stick shift makes this vehicle irresistible and only enhances an already phenomenal driving expreience. I would highly recommend this vehicle to anyone and am looking forward to purchasing another one in a year or two. It really is that great!...read morehide

- Great size love sliding doors, decent gas mileage
- Tires very noisy, driver seat not very comfortable, stereo not great
I had this car as a rental car. I was very excited to have this car when I first saw it. It has tons of space for our luggage. Then I started driving it. I could not find how to adjust the steering wheel till a few days later. The driver seat was uncomfortable. The windshield was really deep and let a lot of sun in. On the windows there is a black rubber bar that is kind of distracting that splits the window. The speakers for the radio are lousy. You can not hear the radio over the noise the tires make going down the interstate. The ride is really rough on different surfaces as many interstates have.
I really like the idea of the sliding doors and the the folding third row, but you are not able to get back to the third row very well. It is hard to get through the 2nd row of bucket sets. There is a lot of space but I would not buy this car at all.
I have a pontiac vibe which is smaller but a much better ride and still has a lot of space....read morehide

- Roomy for its overall size. Flexible seating/cargo space. Good fuel economy and performance.
- Not enough driver and front seat legroom; could use another inch of front seat travel.
Very nice car. We looked a long time and selected Mazda5 over Kia Rondo. We waited for the 08s to come out in order to get the five speed automatic. Glad we did as gas mileage ratings improved and our practical experience says mileage is pretty good. Wanted red color but had to settle for another color (Galaxy Gray) to get a black interior. Tan interior is too light in color for practical use (grandkids, etc.)...read morehide

- Excellent handling/cornering, nicely equipped, easy to get kids in & out, sporty styling
- Nothing so far
We just bought 2 Mazda's on President's Day....zoom zoom!! I got the 2008 Mazda 5 Sport model. My husband & I were looking to downgrade from our 8 cylinder gas guzzling GMC Envoy's, not to mention save an additional $4,000 per year on gas expense (big plus). I've had my 5 since the beginning of this week, and can't even say I miss my old truck. I love the way it handles and love taking the turns on the entrance/exit ramps. It's a really quite ride on the highway, and braking is superb, especially riding in 9-5 traffic every day. We have 2 little boys and they love each having their "own seat" not to mention the 3rd row! Talk about easy conversion of the 3rd row, just a simple pull on the cord, you don't have to feel like you're taking the car apart. The storage compartments/tray table/cup-holders are key and can't wait to take our 1st family road-trip. I've gotten nothing but compliments on the styling, standard options and when I mention I got all that for just over $18,000 they can't believe it. I love my new car/minivan/wagon....read morehide

- Standard options are amazing, New 5 Speed Auto, Very Quiet Ride, Bright Headlight, Peppy engine
- Some rattle/Squik But not too bad
Got the car a week ago, really loving car, we were about to buy Scion XB then found out about Special APR Mazda was offering. we took the 5.9% for 60months which is bit better than 7.3 we got from Capital one, anway,
The Mazda5 is perfect car for our family of 3 (soon to be 4), roomy inside with nice spacious cargo room (with 3rd row fold down). We got the base (sport) model but it came with lots of nice features. like auto climate control, keyless entry, 17in alloy wheel, ABS, EBD, steering mount audio control, cruise control, etc fabric is better than we expected,
Standard Halogen headlight is awesome, it is projector type headlight which give nice beam pattern (possible HID aftermarket upgarde coming soon ^^)
Car's overal design is beautiful, bit changed from previous 07 models, new front and rear design with new designed wheel etc. the biggest change is 5 speed auto with manual shfit from 4 speed, which is much smoother and should yield better MPG. 08 model now has rear heat/ac fan control which will help rear passenger to heat up/cool down.
I hear some rattle/squik sometimes, but it is very minimal
Overall, we highly recommand this to anyone who wants a minivan but don't want to spend a fortune. (we sold honda odyssey and got Mazada5)...read morehide
