- 2008 model AT has much improved fuel economy, very quiet, car-like ride, good brakes, o% financing
- seat material a bit cheap, moonroof small, interior space a bit narrow
We finally got our Mazda 5 GS (that's the Canadian base model) last week. What a nice ride! Extremely quiet.
I had a Mazda 3 before, which was VERY zoom-zoom, but not nearly as comfy or practical as the 5. It's fast enough and the brakes are superb. It's not a Toyota: the wiring isn't very thoroughly protected and I'm not sure about the rust protection, we'll have to see. Also I find the interior plastic not so great, reminds me of Ford Focus.
My first option was the KIA RONDO, which seems even better put together, but doesn't look as cool as the Mazda 5, of course.
The Mazda 5 is a great deal, especially with the 60 months 0% financing in Canada. The GT costs 4000 dollars more, which is just too much in my opinion. The GS AT with Airco is all you'll ever need. The moonroof in the GT is very small, an after market Webasto panorama roof is way cooler.
We don't use the rear seats, I'm thinking of removing them to get an even bigger trunk.
One thing I couldn't sort out: the dealer says I have to service the car every 8000 km, but the manual says every 12.000. The manual should be right, I guess....read morehide

- Manual Transmission, flexible 6 seating, great handling, very versatile, Zoom-Zoom
- OEM wheels are not the best around
The only family space wagon with Manual Transmission and great handling. Fun to drive and ride

comfortably seats 5, the only thing is that is does not have a lot of cargo room, but I can overlook it by the value of the car and the comfortability, gas mileage, and price. If you're looking for a 6 seater and your not trying to get minivan or SUV then this is the car for you

- Great looking car and plenty of room for the 4 of us!
- Bad vibrations when windows are down.
Occassional vibration at highway speed. Not a great winter car, slides easily. Other than that, its a great car. The window thing is very weird cause when I put 2 windows down, I have to adjust them a certain way or they will vibrate and kill your ears. Its a great looking car for the price and the look....read morehide

- No passenger side armrest
I love my Mazda5! I got a great deal, I can haul my kids plus their grandparents when they're in town. I was able to rent 6 foot long tables and fold the two rows of rear seating flat to get them home. The second row features captain seats for comfort. There are tons of little storage compartments throughout the cabin. LOVE MY MAZDA5!!!...read morehide
