The Mazda 5 is the definitive compact Euro-van availbale in the United States. It has a versatile interior that can take-in a good amount of luggage or seat 6 (a bit of a pinch for 3rd row passengers) depending on how it is configured.
The heated leather seating surfaces on the Touring model is satisfactory while the radio/cd/rear entertainment dvd/vcd system is an excellent option to have especially for small families with toddlers. One feature I appreciate on all Mazda 5 trims are the 2nd and 3rd row safety belt clips. The sound of seatbelt buckles clanging against the interior walls can be a bit bothersome especially on long drives and these belt clips are an ingenious way to get this minor "tik" out of the way.
I am impressed by the Mazda 5's exterior styling. Very Eurasian with the sharp character lines and well-proportioned gait. The Touring model gets the side-skirts and roof-mounted spoiler aside from the alloy wheels and aggressively-styled bumper / airdam.
The engine, while adequately powered for city driving can be a bit buzzy on the freeway. It can be a bit on the slow side to 65mph and passing other vehicles between the 60-75mph range takes alot of careful planning.
Overall, the Mazda 5 is a great alternative to other minivans or station wagons for small families who like to have an everyday driver wih equal doses of style, substance and (in-city) performance.
