- Pros
- Cheap, good for hauling kids and stuff
- Cons
- Poor design overall
Purchased As New
Mazda5 is a cheap poorly designed car. It has been nothing but trouble.
I do not even know where to start - interior trim does not fit, changing headlight bulbs leave hands cut and bruised, knees hit steering column when seat raised (5'10" driver), front bumper keeps coming loose on sides, tools required to replace rear windshield wiper, battery occasionally drains to nothing after parking for short period, rear visibility poor, rear bearings replaced after 40,000 miles, medium profile tires ride poorly and lose air frequently, worst front wheel drive vehicle on snow (even with snow tires), underpowered even with manual transmission...
On the positive side, the radio works well and the manual transmission is pretty smooth.
One suspects that the newer models have not changed much. Stay away from this car....read morehide0 out of 2 people found this review helpful.

The mini mini van. Easier and more fun to drive than a mini van and gets better gas mileage.

- Pros
- Handling, Smooth shifting 5spd, fun to drive
- Cons
- Like a little more power. Tight fit with two kids seats in the back.

I bought this new for $17,500 and have been very happy with it. The last thing I wanted was a mini-van but this Sport version with a 5 speed is a hoot to drive and handles very well.
It's the perfect compromise between needing space for my little ones and their stuff and a great handling, fun car to drive. Would like a little more power but I have the base model (so I could get the stick) but overall I totally recommend this car....read morehide0 out of 0 people found this review helpful.

- Pros
- Great fuel economy and features for the price
- Cons
- Road noise

Bought a demo 5 2012 Touring with 6000 miles on it after months of looking. Could not find a better 6 pass. fuel economy minded new vehicle for the price. My wife totaled it within 3 weeks of buying it. She came away without a scratch in a serious front end collision. No cabin intrusion at all! Loved it from the begining! I was so impressed I bought a new 5 touring (12') after, now with sunroof, 6 disc, rubber mats and bumper protector for $19995+TT&L brand new. If you keep this car under 65mph on highway you will get 30mpg all day, even with 10% ethanol gas! Owned a Mazda before and it was one of the most trouble-free cars I have owned....read morehide

- Pros
- Decent fuel economy, sliding back doors, third row, handling, good power
- Cons
- Stereo could be a little nicer, front cupholders in funky spot
Purchased As Used
Great little car! Fun to drive and with third row down, can hold a ton of stuff. Kids like reclining bucket seats for trips, and storage under seats is nice. With winter tires, it handles the road great up here in Fairbanks Alaska. Not tons of power but don't need it. Front seat adjustments can make any size person comfortable....read morehide

I have waited a year to write my review. I really love this little van and it has been a perfect fit for my family. The only issue that has come up is my husband is 6'2 and is not comfortable driving for long distances. the front driver seat just doesn't go back enough for him but for me at 5'3 it is perfect....read morehide

- Pros
- So fun to drive-it has sport tires, good fuel economy.
- Cons
- The front "The Smile" it has to go. Too much!!!
Purchased As New
Do not decided what you think about this car until you drive it. I promise you it will be the most fun family van you ever drive. It takes corners like a sports car. We purchased the roof rack and luggage carrier. If you travel you will need it. We took our Mazda 5 all the way from So Cal to Canada and back. It did an amazing job the whole trip. There is a reason this car is one of the most popular in Europe. Americans need to take notice. This is the perfect car for: a family, city people, and travel adventurers!...read morehide

- No trim specified for this review
- Pros
- Made & Assembled in Japan and not in USA, Loads of features, 6 seats, Price & Easy to own
- Cons
- 7th Seat should have been added, other than that NO Complains.
Purchased As New
I was looking for a Family Car which is not made in USA. Toyota and Honda has Trusted them and let their cars made/assembled in USA and they are making JUNK now. Every other day we hear Recalls now but no one tells you that all those cars are MADE IN USA.
Love the Steering and handling of my 5, got the GT with Leather and sunroof and so far no complains. Very smooth ride, easy to access back seats with kids and excellent gas consumption knowing that its a Van not a Car....read morehide0 out of 2 people found this review helpful.
Was this review helpful to you?
- Pros
- Good handling, rather zippy, comfortable, well designed interior and controls.
- Cons
- Rather cheap upholstery on models other than the leather equipped Grand Touring
Purchased As New
Wanted sliding doors but not an expensive Honda or Toyota. This was the perfect find. Impressed with the design, easy to get in and out of, very good visibility, fun to drive, adequate power for a 4 cylinder, and comfortable and quiet. Love it so far!

Was this review helpful to you?
- Pros
- Good fuel economy, perfect size, smooth ride!
- Cons
- Cup-holder shortage!
Purchased As New
First, I love the size of this vehicle. It drives and parks like a compact but the kids still have the space and comfort of a mini-van in the back.
Second, fuel economy. I believe the sticker said 18/24 mpg, but I actually get around 19/30 mpg. Impressive, if you compare it to other vehicles with a 3rd row.
Value. There were several things I wasn't willing to compromise on when we started car shopping. I wanted a third row, in a small vehicle, with good fuel economy, and leather seats and I wanted to stick to my budget of $25,000. At the other dealerships, the sales-people looked at me like I was asking for a unicorn. Mazda said, "With a sunroof and heated seats?"...read morehide1 out of 1 people found this review helpful.
