Entering its third generation, The Mazda6 will be the second of Mazda's new lineup to benefit from extensive implementation of SKYACTIV technology. Sharing many components with its crossover kin CX-5, the 6 will be powered by a 2.5-liter direct-injection SKYACTIV-G engine making 189 horsepower with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Debuting on the company's flagship sedan is i-ELOOP technology; a unique system that harnesses electricity in a capacitor during deceleration and then uses that power for electrical components throughout the car. This leaves the engine dedicated only to accelerative duties for even greater efficiency. The lighter materials used to strengthen the SKYACTIV frame in the CX-5 translate to a body structure with about 30% more torsional rigidity in the new 6 for greater safety and handling prowess. The cabin should be particularly quiet as well thanks to blocking noise paths from the engine and the road into the cabin with noise absorbing materials. Mazda's new 'KODO-Soul of Motion' design language is applied well to the proportions of the midsize sedan with a unique chrome accent unifying the grille and headlights before strong fender bulges carry a character line to the tall rear-end.
