2009 Mazda MAZDASPEED3
There are 5 user reviews for the Sport 5-Door trim shown below
- makes driving an adventure, fast, steering feel, tight suspension, sleeper, beautiful inside and out
- more performance could be pulled from this car, miss 3rd gear when aggressive

Personally, it really is hard to find something wrong with this car. It took me 5 minutes to think of those 2 cons, although missing 3rd gear happens quite a lot and I've talked to my friends and they have the same problem. The problem can be eliminated with an aftermarket rear motor mount and solid shifter bearings, which brings me to my other con: mazda doesn't do this car justice. It has sooo much potential and they give it stupid plastic filled intakes, flimsy motor mounts (although it helps ride quality) and the "numb" shifter. other than those things, this car shines above the rest of the hot hatches. I feel the 263hp and 280 torque every single time I step on the pedal. It's an incredibly addicting rush, I love my car. The interior is excellent, I personally can't find any faults with it. I have the Sport trim rather than the Grand Touring and there aren't too many differences. Grand Touring has partial leather/suede seats, Bose system, HID headlights, and a tripometer. It also has an optional navigation display, but a Garmin is cheaper and probably better. So unless you need those things, the Sport is sufficient. Plus, I like my Sport seats better than the leather/suede ones. Very comfortable, duarble material, I really like them. I went on a month long road trip (a few weeks after I got my car) with a FULLY packed trunk and backseat and the car performed phenomenally. My friend that came with me is looking for a new car and he swore he was going to buy a Mazda haha. No one who has ever ridden in my car, including my hoyty toty grandmother, has said that the ride was too stiff. This MIGHT be only true with people with back problems, but I think it's just something the reviewers had to add to their cons list because they were fishing for them. I'd prefer a tighter suspenion myself. The clutch is superb, I love the way it feels. Totally beats my Jetta's and Yaris' that I've owned. And I personally think that this car is incredibly good looking. People often overlook the detailing of this car, such as the bulged hood (suggesting power), the lower stance, 18" rims, rear wing, larger grill(s), and just an overall beefy stance. A side-by-side comparison with the standard Mazda3 hatch will show substantial differences. I like the styling because if you know the car has power, you can tell. And if you don't know, then you don't need to know until I show you. It's the ulitmate sleeper look. I've added a short ram intake and blow-off valve and it has added power, fun, and a sexy noise that really inspires "spirited" driving.
If you like hatches, or are even contemplating them, this car will not disappoint. Even my mom said she hates hatchbacks but she loves my car. That says a lot haha.
Unfortunately, the 2010's aren't as sleeper-ish as the '09s, so if you were looking for a sleeper look, you'll have to go for a 07-09, but if you DO like that "I have power, look at me" type of car, then the 2010 might be for you.
I could go on and on and on about this car, but until you actually drive one for yourself you won't really know what it's like. I give this car the best possible review, eventhough it might be a bit biased, I can honestly say that it's a great car. That's why I bought it, and I will have it until its dying day....read morehide

- 0-60 in 5.8 sec. Handles great. Grips the road. Turbo kicks in at right moment for great stability
- For being a Mazdaspeed it is pretty interior and exterior.
Purchased As New
Overall I am very pleased with my 09 Mazda3 Mazdaspeed. Fun to drive and has muscle when you need it. Handles great and grabs the road. Has dynamic traction control which taked gettting use to. Kicks in on quick takeoffs which is irritating. However, comes in handy in the snow. Also don't expect great gas mileage out of the Mazdaspeed turbo engine. Gas mileage isn't too bad, but not even close to that of my wifes Mazda 3 i. Mazda could have made the Mazdaspeed a little more noticeable. Rather plain like the regular Mazda3 with the exception of the seats saying Mazdaspeed, a decal on dash, and driver/pasenger door step plates. I took it upon mysel to add some styiling to interior/exterior with carbon fiber accents interior. I had two black pearl mica racing stripes painted along with 1"x7" black "Mazdaspeed" decals put on the pass/driver front doors. Unfortunately Mazdas usual line of accessories are severely lacking for the 09 models. I guess you could say nonexsistent. Otherwise I love the car and I am very glad I purchased my first Mazdaspeed....read morehide

- Handling, Braking, Horse Power and Torque, Seat, Practicality, Value
- Poor Shifter feel, need driver's leg room, cheap sunvisor & headliner, MPG, no sunroof option
MS3 is practical and stealth enough for family of five but SPORT enough to blow away many competitors. Nicely tuned and well balanced FWD, this is not a typical 1/4 mile all-about-hp machine. Great braking and handling performance makes it very fun to drive. Reasonably priced. A great value off-the-shelf dual purpose track car.
Limited driver leg room makes the long distance driving uncomfortable.
Narrow power band, turbo runs out of stream above 5500rpm....read morehide

- power, feel, fun to drive, looks, interior
I can't say enough positive things about this car.....i previously had a Mazda 3 but the upgrade to the Mazdaspeed 3 is more than i could ask for! Power is very impressive, does not lag at all in any gear. It doesn't look like a beast but certainly is. The exhaust sounds great. Handling is superb...no body roll felt. I love everything about this car!!!!!! If i had to complain about something.....the only thing i kind of dislike is the display for the SIRIUS radio. I would recommend this car for anyone who enjoys driving. It's an absolute blast to drive!!!!!!!...read morehide

- Power, mpg's, handling, visability
- Wheel hop, a bit floaty, vague shifter, Summer only tires
Great bang for the buck car. I downsized from larger performance sedans, but don't regret it. Car handles like an ice skater. Is a bit floaty on rough pavement but never bad.
Power is endless; rowing through 3-4-5 will cause you to watch for police as you enter triple digits faster than the guy trying to catch you will believe possible. Shifter can be a bit vague and the clutch is stout, but overall, it will take a former Honda owner about 1 week to get used to it.
MPG's are good. I"m averaging on par to better than it's rated. Nice to know that you can get good mileage yet go fast when needed. Brake are amazing. They are big too and noticeably so.
Tire wise, I wish they had all season rubber as an option. However, adding a set of winter wheels/tires will be easy enough.
Overall, the car is great. Not necessarily a long trip car as the exhaust is a bit loud and the suspension a bit stiff for that. However, still a great car to drive everyday.
