- Good power, nice options, affordable, excellent style, quality interior/exterior
- Fuel Economy, but that's my fault!, no sunroof option

Wow, I am impressed by this car!
Took it for a test drive and could not believe the sticker price on this car for all of the options and a turbo engine. Bose stereo system, Bluetooth, dark gunmetal rims, and of course, that grinning grill (a projection of how I feel driving this car!). So I bought it.
While driving, I find the handling to be superb. No problems cutting tight corners which is a must when you have a car with this much power. You feel the road with the suspension, but not so much that it is uncomfortable. Acceleration is smooth and I find the turbo kicks in at about 3000-5500RPM, which is a perfect mid-range power band. I find that when I keep my shifts in this band that my 0-60 is 6 seconds, maybe a little less. Not bad for a car under 25 grand!
I read that some users complain about the torque steer. Yes, torque steer is present, but I do not really find it to be that much of an issue. I think it adds to the driving experience and it has NEVER been so bad that I have felt that I was going to lose control of the car, even around sharp corners.
My only criticism is that the fuel economy is not the greatest. Typically I get 18-20 in the city, but that is with appropriate use of the turbo. Hwy is more like 26-28, however ,I did a 500 mile trip and got 34 MPG but I did not use the turbo (there is a turbo gauge, btw). So you could get better efficiency if you wanted and drove it in a more prudent fashion.
The hatch makes this car the ultimate prize. If you need to grab the bikes for a weekend trek or need the extra space to haul groceries, its there. This car is the perfect blend of performance and utility and I am surprised I do not see this car on the road more often....read morehide

- Thrilling, Doesn't attract attention
- Torque Steer, Poor service
Purchased As New
This car is really a magical value. There's just nothing even close on the "driving thrill per dollar" scale. In fact, it's kind of ruined me -- the next step up in performance from this car is going to be easily twice the price. It's also amazing how low-key it is; I've not gotten a single ticket in this car (and I don't spare the horses). It looks like a station-wagon to cops. Brilliant! The torque steer is quite noticeable. You'll get used to it, but be careful letting other people drive your car. I've also been less-than-thrilled with the level of service from Mazda, but it sort of makes sense: It's the best car made by an economy marque. It's taught me this: the guy driving the cheapest car from a high-end marque gets better service than the guy driving the best car from an economy marque. Just the facts of life....read morehide
