2008 Mazda MX-5 MIATA
There are 13 user reviews for the Grand Touring Power Retractable Hardtop trim shown below
- Excellent handling brakes and gearbox, good torque, pwr roof is amazing
- Too noisy at highway speed, tires too noisy and no spare
Purchased As New
This is my 4th Miata ('08 stormy mica blue GT hard top), and they keep getting better, and in dark blue, the best looking in my opinion of all the Miatas. The car has better handling, more power, better interior, and more features which represents a great value, and the car was made better in every way without sacrificing the original Mazda's My favorite new feature other than the power hardtop roof, is the adjustable driver seat bottom. Hey Mazda, offer the same feature on the passenger seat too please. Mileage is excellent too, averaging 25 mpg around town, and the car is utterly bullet-proof. There are merits for each of the following alternatives such as the Honda S2000, S/P Sky/Solstice, Nissan 350Z convertible, BMW Z4, and Porsche Boxster in comparison to the Miata. However, when the entire picture is evaluated including price with options, dealership service, insurance rates, reliability, design, economy, appearance, and driving fun, the Miata is very compelling. The only drawback is it's small size and limited luggage space....read morehide

- Fun to drive, great gas milage 33 MPG highway the hardtop is a blast
- the Bose system is awesome, but why no access for the Ipod
we bought this car for my wife, we wanted our first convertible, I knew enough to know a hardtop would be less noisy, besides everytime we are operating the top it attracts attention and comments. We have the PHT Grand Touring with stablizer, and manual paddle shifters on the steering wheel for those times you want to play like a race car driver. To sum up we love this car with no regrets....read morehide

My Miata w/ retractable hardtop is one of the best cars that I have owned. Confortable, nimble and economical. Retractable hardtop great engineering work. 6 speed auto w/ paddle shifters excellent for quick acceleration. Run flat tires a must option (no spare). For sport car lovers, I highly recommend it....read morehide

- Great looking, Good fuel economy, a blast to drive
- None so far
I purchased the 2008 Grand Touring Stormy blue mica with Automatic Transmission and the PRHT with all of the options just about 4 weeks ago, it has brought the fun back into my driving, even in congested traffic I don't mind especially when the top is down, I'm in Seattle where it rains allot, so with the retractable hard top no other sports car in its class compares and I believe with the Mazda reliability I will be happy for many years, so far I have had no problems, 26mpg around town and 34mpg on the freeway, this car definitely turns heads if that is what you are looking for, I'm 6'2 and I did not fit in all of the competition (even the Honda) but I fit great in the MX5....read morehide

- PRHT, handling, cost
I bought 2008 Copper Mica Red PRHT Auto 4 days ago. Always wanted a sports car/convertible but didn't want a soft top convertible. Didn't realize Miata came with a PRHT until the middle of last year. I tried to find an '07 PRHT in Texas late last year with no luck - all were sold. I am in HEAVEN! Drives like a dream, love watching the PRHT go up and down, handling is amazing, rear -wheel drive, haven't yet determined gas mileage with premium gas but at this point I DON'T care! Kept my "old" car ('97 Honda CRV) to drive in bad weather or when I need extra space. This is a dream come true!...read morehide

- Fuel economy, handling, interior room, looks
- Cup holders
Bought it last Wednesday and can't stop driving it. I have read other reviews and people complain about noise or ride or whatever. This is a driver's car. If you want to cruise the interstates buy a Lexus. If you want a straight line dragster buy a Viper. If you want a responsive, smooth handling monster buy an MX-5. The PRHT is just the icing on the cake!! I filipped my top sitting at a stop light just because I could....read morehide

- Best Model Yet NC with PRHT - 25-31mpg - Eye catcher -
I have had all '3' generation Miata's/MX5's - I work in Japan every year and saw the PRHT in late 05 Tokyo car show. I knew then that was my next Miata/MX5 - Cooper Red/ tan Interior - sweetest sleek classy ride !! IN California this car rarely has the top up but when I need it - it is quick and smooth - 12 seconds to solid hard top-LUV IT!!
Mid- life crisis at 43 and thinking I was going over to Porsche then I drove my New Baby and I never looked back. This doesn't scream - '
"TRYING TO RE-CAPTURE MY YOUTH" -
It simply says, " I AM HAPPY WITH ME AND LOVE THE SUN ON MY FACE AND THE WIND IN MY HAIR" ( thank god I still have hair for the wind to blow - LOL ) No more mid life crisis for me with this baby.
Don't waste the $70000 on Porsche unless you need the LABEL - So many people do in Hollywood UGH !! Drive/Buy this car ( with the PRHT ) and save $45000 for a great Condo in Thailand.
ENJOY ENJOY - ZOOM ZOOM !!!!!
Oh Yeah, I also have a Mini Cooper incase I need to take a longer trip to snow ski.
See you on Hwy 1 heading to Big Sur or Pismo Beach.

- Exellent MPG,PRHT is a quallity feature,Drivers cockpit
- Slight rough ride but thats expected with a roadster,MP3 hookup would be nice
Very fun car to drive, not a race car, didn't expect it to be one, don't think any one should, its a quick little 28 to 32 MPG toy that handles quite exceptional,I can't wait to get in it everyday.Love the Hardtop what a great feature.I'm under 6 feet tall and its very compfortable for me. I have the 6 speed automatic, never had any shifting problems, very smooth and I love the manual shift mode. The Bose sound system is quite nice.Looked at the other roadsters on the market and this one sold me!!...read morehide

- In one word FUN
- Have no complaints
I LOVE THIS CAR. I'm 62 and have wanted a roadster since high school & this is a fantastic and fun car. It's a perfect Santa Barbara, CA car & I drive her daily and usually with the PHT down. I just returned from a trip to Scottsdale & Tucson and averaged 34mpg at an average speed of 85mph. I found her to be reliable, comfortable, safe (manuverable & nimble) and just plain fun.
I have the 2008 Grand Touring Power Hard Top and have had many new cars over the years & this is the most enjoyable of them all....read morehide
