2008 Mazda MX-5 MIATA User Reviews
- $11,792 - $13,562
- In one word FUN
- Have no complaints
I LOVE THIS CAR. I'm 62 and have wanted a roadster since high school & this is a fantastic and fun car. It's a perfect Santa Barbara, CA car & I drive her daily and usually with the PHT down. I just returned from a trip to Scottsdale & Tucson and averaged 34mpg at an average speed of 85mph. I found her to be reliable, comfortable, safe (manuverable & nimble) and just plain fun.
I have the 2008 Grand Touring Power Hard Top and have had many new cars over the years & this is the most enjoyable of them all....read morehide

- Good gas mileage and easy to steer
- Hard ride on the long stretches and very tiresome to operate in stop and go traffic.
I've had several mechanical problems since taking delivery of my new (and expensive) car and although the service dept has fixed those problems it's still a hassle to have to spend time returning to a dealership and spending the day in a "loaner".
The car is nice looking but very a hard (on the body) drive on trips that exceed 45 minutes.
(IT IS DEFINATELY NOT BUILT FOR A LONG TRIP!)
In congested city driving you are easily fatigued as well.
I will be selling this one on eBay soon....read morehide

- Great MPG, sporty, looks great! Makes short trips a little more worth it.
- Could use a little room, but hey, it's a dang Miata
My wife got one of these about 3 months ago and it was her first new car. It's no secret that I like driving this car much more than her! Ours is white/tan top/tan leather--classic-looking. The 6 speed can really zip around and the suspension is like riding on rails, really unbelievable. The Grand Touring model includes all the goodies: 18 inch rims and reasonably grippy tires, leather inside, bose stereo, cloth top, etc. We live in the Southeast and there are lots of winding forest roads that need some serious driving!
We recently took this car from Baton Rouge, LA to College Station, TX and back and it was tolerable, but we're quite young and too stubborn to admit that the car is possibly a little too small for 6-7 hour trips! However, it did stop raining long enough to take the top down and enjoy the car like it was intended.
With the top down and the windows and windblind thingy up, there is little turbulence in the cabin, even at 80mph. My wife and I could converse easily without shouting and music playing just audibly.
-this is a small car that is big on character
-people smile at it like they do puppies
-got 34mpg on last road trip
-cheap(compared to competing roadsters)
-fun factor is exponential compared to most cars!
-this is a small car, I am a skinny 5'10" and wife is a petite 5' even.
There sure isn't much extra room surrounding our relatively small frames. Big shoulders? Forget about it.....
-gonna have to buy some smaller luggage like we did. Also, no body pillows for backseat naps. Actually, no naps at all unless you are sedated.
-Don't buy this car unless you live somewhere where you can put the top down often. It's sad to have to ride in that fun little car with the top down, the car seems sad, like when Herbie was sick..... but the minute you put the top down, step on it, and crank up some classic rock, all is forgotten....read morehide

- Perfect size, great fuel economy, looks great, easy to use top
- Brakes sometimes squeak.
I LOVE this car!! It's absolutely wonderful. I have never been this comfortable in a car. Everything is within reach and so easy to use. The manual top is extremely easy to put up and down; can be done within seconds. I love all the great little features.
I live in Michigan and, though I do not drive the car year-round, I've driven it since late February and intend to keep driving it until the snow comes. This car grabs the road and handles great. It zips and it zags and it looks great doing it.
Two negatives: brakes sometimes squeak and air conditioner is a little weak. Hopefully Mazda will look into this.
I still get a thrill every time I get into this car. When I put the top down and drive away, nothing can bring me down!
By the way, to the earlier boo-hooer, Mazda is part owned by a Michigan auto manufacturer. Not only are Ford's employees allowed to purchase Mazda, we're encouraged to - we're given a discount....read morehide

- Really great fuel economy, I just love driving it.
- I have problems sometimes with the top sticking when trying to close
I love this car. My husband bought it for me for my 37'th birthday and I enjoy it every day. I do have problems with the keyless remote not always working and getting the top to go down, it sometimes sticks. Other then that I adore this car.

- Very attractive car!
- Gutless wonder....
Great looking....when it's parked....I just test drove the vechicle on I-5 near Portland this past weekend....rain and the usual Portland congestion made the drive very dangerous....getting on the freeway was a problem...the car doesn't accelerate fast enough....I think if I lived out in the sticks it would be a great road car...not for City Freeway traffic....not much defense against any larger vechicle....and not fast enough to get out of the way.

- Transmission, ergonomics
This is my second Miata, the first one, a 1999, I owned for 8 nearly trouble free years. What I've noticed the most about this new generation is the change in the transmission. The 6 speed manual is perfectly matched with the timing and the torque for smooth performance. It's effortless, powerful, and quiet, I love it. I ordered my car direct from the factory and got it equipped the way I want it, with the limited slip differential and sport tuned suspension, it holds the road firmly. My retractable hardtop is wonderful, I'm a short person and it's so nice to not have to get out of the car to put the top up. For the money, this is the best car on the road....read morehide

- The retractable top is a nice feature. Small, so it's easy to park.
- Very bumpy ride! This car isn't built to be comfortable on long trips!
Great weekend fun car to go the the market in or to a local club but not built well for long distance travel.
Suspension is much too stiff.
The retractable hard top is fine if you want to protect your gear from being easily stolen but the price tag is way too high for the type of overall car you are buying.
Mazda needs to get some more exciting colors lined up.
Looks nice sitting in the garage though and doesn't take up all that much space....read morehide
