2008 Mazda MX-5 MIATA

- Very dependable, good fuel ecoomy, corners super, acceleration is good!
- On my 94, the lifters sometimes make noise for a few minutes.
In the 9 years I have owned my 94 Miata, I have changed the oil every 3000 miles, changed the tires 2 times and the battery one time. It's been an outstanding fun, fuel efficient, very reliable convertible to own and enjoy. My only complaint is when we have heavy rains, I get a little water in the trunk, I think it's missing the rain gutter. I love the automatic transmission, the AC has never given me any problems. I'm 6 ft and am comfortable. Thanks Mazda!!...read morehide

- retractable hardtop, SMOOTH short shift knob, shifts aren't tacky, peels corners easily, etc
- small trunk space (expected), lack in power vs S2000, etc
Very enjoyable car; it's small, throws in and out of corners well, PRHT works well, etc etc etc etc. I can go on all day typing pros for this baby. The manual shift knob is.. flawless. It shifts smoothly during the drive and not tacky at all. Haven't mis-shifted this baby yet.. so it seems alright.
The cons.. well, this one still lacks in power in comparison to the S2000 (Honda). Although the price difference is quite the gap, Mazda should have set another powertrain for the Miata. I've driven all three gen Miatas.. I would say the 08 model isn't as fast when it goes in and out of corners as the first gen Miata.. That's only b/c of the weight difference between the two cars. The trunk space.. well, not much can be said considering some cars like the SLK w/ electronic hardtop doesn't even HAVE a trunk to spare after they put the top down. So technically the trunk size should be a pro.
**THIS CAR WASN'T MADE FOR POWER IF PEOPLE HAVEN'T NOTICED! ENJOY IT, PEEL IT AND HAVE FUN.. THAT'S ALL**...read morehide

- Light years ahead of GM vehicles
- Availibility is poor
Looked at the Solstice and the Sky when I bought my MX-5. Both of the GM knock-off's vehicles. Both of the GM vehicles look cheap on the inside, have terrible blind spots with top up. If you are looking to store anything bigger than a purse then you need to leave the GM cars at home. The MX-5 has much more storage space then the GM cars. After further research I found out that the Mazda was on Car and Driver's "10 best" list every single year it has been on the market! It was also an Automobile Magazine "All Star" for 12 years and is still the largest sports car club in the world. When it comes to bag for the buck and quality reputation you just cannot compete with the Mazda. Toyota figured that out and stop production of their MR2 Spyder.........read morehide

- Looks/accelerates/handles like a real sports car. Door mounted bottle holders. Really!!
- Hard to find in Wal-Mart parking lot. Center cup holders, door lock switches???
Car reviewed MX-5 GT AT.
Drove this car with "Manumatic" to review it for my 66-year young mother.
Being an ex-road racer and die-hard Porsche man, I was really skeptical. WOW!!! This little car delivers crisp/precise handling. The chassis/suspension gives ample communication. The engine's power band is wide, but keep it there, 4k+, if you want to go "fast" and yes, this car is plenty fast for public roads. The MX-5 Miata is more about "Dynamics" and less, a lot less, about drag/ego/idiot street racing. The brakes are fade free with excellent modulation. DSC really works and will keep most out of trouble on the street.
The automatic transmission "Manumatic" was the biggest surprise, offering complete control of the power band with solid, lightning quick up/down shifting; a very nice unit, given the pricing point. The steering wheel mounted...read morehide

- Fuel economy, fun factor, handling
- none worth mentioning
I had a '96 Miata. My 2006 is much better. Better handling, power, and better looks. I would lose the door mounted cup holders. The only thing that would make me consider getting rid of this one is the same configuration with MORE HORSEPOWER.

- Very attractive car!
- Gutless wonder....
Great looking....when it's parked....I just test drove the vechicle on I-5 near Portland this past weekend....rain and the usual Portland congestion made the drive very dangerous....getting on the freeway was a problem...the car doesn't accelerate fast enough....I think if I lived out in the sticks it would be a great road car...not for City Freeway traffic....not much defense against any larger vechicle....and not fast enough to get out of the way.
