2008 Mazda Tribute User Reviews

Purchased As Used
i bought this car last year used. It is black on black, i love it better than my 2001 that i had before, if your looking for a great little suv, and want to save on insurance and gas, this is the best one out there, i feel very safe in this car, and my husband loves it so much that on his days off we only use it, and not his expensive G37. He enjoys driving it and loves how it isn't to high or low so you just sit in it and are able to get out with ease, and the back is the perfect higth to load all groceries, and other stuff we buy...read morehide

- Good Fuel Economy, Plenty of Room, Fun to Drive
- Dashboard Hard to Read - More so at Night, Poor Powering Up Hills, Cheap Quality Inside Cab
Purchased Tribute primarily for fuel economy due to long commute. Very happy overall and enjoy driving it. On highway, getting 28 (last 3 tanks) and when in traffic, getting 26. I am 6ft. 3 and it is very comfortable with plenty of room. 5 speed fun to drive but very weak up hills. If you want power, this is not the SUV for you. Great for Commuting and Room. Dashboard is extremely hard to read at night. Console design poor. Requires longer look while driving than I would care for. Cheap Interior..cost cutting getting in the way of "perceived value". Still can't believe that there are no coat hooks above rear seat doors....I would have gladly paid one more dollar for two more coat hooks. Don't understand why there is only one in the very rear of vehicle. Have had since mid May, put on 5800 miles in 3 months...so far, I would recommend this vehicle and glad to have it. Mazda in name only, it's a Ford...believe that is why it has a cheap interior. Traded a Mazda MPV for this and the overall integrity seemed much better than this....Mazda in Name Only....read morehide

- Good fuel mileage on highway, I'm getting between 23 and 24 mpg
- Rear seating tight for adults.
Second Tribute I've owned. Great SUV for open road. Best highway ride (smooth and comfortable) between 75 and 80 mph. I had 177,000 on my 2001 and crossed the USA seven times in it, espect no less from this one.

- 19 MPG
- Died at 78,000 miles
This is a "Heads Up" for tribute owners. I had a 2005, routine maintenance ,no off road, hwy driving to and from work. At 78,000 it just died on the road, no warning. After the tow was followed with "your plugs are bad, ignition system etc. Next to go were the cat convertors. Towed to the mazda dealer again. My mechanic stated " What did you expect from a Mazda built with FORD parts?

- Great gas mileage, fun to drive, powerful for a 4cyl. Notice no diff. from 6cyl
- none so far
Plenty of room. Miss the outside temp gauge, but than again I know how it feels outside :) 3 young kids incl. carseat and plenty of room. I am not missing my expedition! Drove the Escape and the Santa Fe each for an overnight test drive, hated the blue lighting in Santa fe, and the Escape was a bit rougher ride. Overall very happy with the Tribute!...read morehide

- Excellent upgraded 6-CD stereo system, seating very comfortable. Handles great!
- Emergency brake should be hand controlled, not enough power for 4cyl., bad interior color choices!
Overall, I have really loved my new 2008 i touring Mazda Tribute. The small SUV comes standard with so many options that other SUV's charge you for. The upgraded stereo sytem with the 6-CD changer sounds like you are at a concert. The seating is so comfortable, both the driver's and the passenger seating as well as the back seat. The safty rating's are excellent. I have had my new 2008 Tribute for about 3 months, no major trouble and the small to mid-size SUV handles like a dream. I test drove many other small to mid size SUV's and all of them came up short compaired to the Mazda. The emergency brake really bother's me, it should have been a hand brake. It is very uncomfortable to release the emergency brake, your face is smashed into the steering wheel to do so. The gas mileage is around 24-26 mpg overall and that is for the 4 cyl, not much pick up and go for passing but the mpg is decent. Love my new Mazda Tribute. I expect to see many of these on the roads. Overall rating on a scale of 1-5 would be a 4 1/2. Good job Mazda....read morehide

- I traded a MAZDA3 for the 08 SUV. Good gas milegage. Love the looks. Very pleased with vehicle
- tires a little noisy, wish it had mileage like MAZDA3
I never like the Tributes before and when I drove on the lot with my 06 Mazda3 and saw the new Tribute Iwas pleasantly surprised and bought one. Mine is black with the black/camel interior. Very sharp looking. We went to Gatlinburg, TN for Christmas and stayed at the top of Ski Mountain (very top) and this vehicle was amazing going up the mountain with only a 4 cylinder. I just could not believe how well it did. Anyway, I love mine and plan on keeping it for a long time....read morehide

- Fuel economy, roomy enough for family of 5 even with a car seat, plenty of cargo, comfortable
- None yet
after spending months driving the "sister" suv's (hyundai, ford, mercury) this was far more comfortable, and even the 4cyl has great pick up. Awesome suv for the money!

- Nice dashboard, good gas mileage, nice audio system (4 spkr), perfect handling and steering
- Lack of outside temp sensor, no engine cover on 4 cylinder models and small rims
Great value for the money. Plenty of space and power (if you don' need to haul). For commuting to work and cargo is excellent. The power steering is very good. Is nice that traction control and vehicle stability control are standard in this 08 model. The dashboard have piano black finish with blue illumination which looks stylish. It comes with 16 in rims so I probably change that in the near future....read morehide

- good ride, decent looks outside, good stereo, heated seats are nice
- ok gas mileage, chinced on leather seats (only trimmed)
This is my second Tribute. The first one was a little rough around the edges and had to have 3 alternator replacements at $500. each.
First one had a harsh ride and not great cloth interior. Interior lighting was poor and controls were hard to find when driving. This 2008
handles fairly well and does not suffer from the bone jolting ride my other Tribute did. The body looks good. A lot like a mini 2004 vintage Navigator copy. The stereo is great and I like the printout of the songs.
My big complaint is that I wanted leather seats becasue I have dogs and instead found I got only leather trimmed seats. Just o.k.
Gas mileage seems about the same which is not great, however Mazda has dropped the price about 4 grande so it beats the competition. One amusing point is that the manual states that
the vehicle was manufactured by Ford for Mazda. So either Escape or Tribute doesnt matter....read morehide
