Scrumtrelescent

by Grady from Indy (6/25/08)
Pros:FAST! Good Comfort & Excellent Handling
Cons:Shifting patern is awkward at first, clutch is a bit jumpy with a size 13 shoe

I cannot say in 4000 characters how much i love this car! It looks Great! It rides well for having a sporty suspension. The only problem i have is trying to go the speed limit, the car just wants to go. praise aside first and third are very easy to confuse at first, as is the clutch jumpy but give it time and you will adjust. Third gear is a bottomless pit of power. soo you know its fast by now. the interrior appointments are nice. everyhting is easy to reach from the drivers seat. climate control is very nice and requires very little attention or tweaking. i purchased the base model and the only marginal area i would say is the radio. it is adequate, but i would appreciate the 6 disc changer and a little more umph from the speakers. WELL DONE MAZDA. also if you had too you could accomidate a small family..

Speed 3, a blast!!!!!!

by Mike from Miami, Fl (5/09/08)
Pros:Everythhing
Cons:None

After reading all reviews over the internet for 2 months, checking my budget, and searching the color i wanted, I tested the car at the dealer and i was impressed, so much power for this car, and bought my MS3.

For me, this is the best car i have ever had so far. I had a sentra spec v but the speed 3 beats the spec v all over: Style, Room and POWER. i love this car, when you need power, you have even in 6th gear. I'm waiting for the 1st oil change to install the MazdaSpeed CAI and Exhaust to make this car flights

I've been with it for almost 2 weeks, i have no complains. This car has everything you need for the price, you only have to drive and pump gas.

If you are thinking of buying this car, just do it, don't waste time there are only 4500 to 5000 to be sold in USA and i already has ONE.

Enjoy it.

FUN. Practical. Value.

by Pete from Granbury, TX (4/03/08)
Pros:A BLAST to drive. Very practical as well.
Cons:Stereo could use a little oomph. A few creaks over bumps and hard corners

A excellent value. I recently installed Mazdaspeed's cold air intake. Great sounds from the engine and a little performance gain. I love this car.

happy owner

by Matt Petrucci from Mattituck NY (3/31/08)
Pros:23mpg and I drive fast. TORQUE out the ying yang handles very very tight. comfy perfomance seats
Cons:rough ride, shifters a little mushy, sound system torque steer when you gun it but manageable

I personally got a steal on this car. I bought it used with 150miles on it 4000 below list at a jaguar dealership. go figure. anyways. this car is incredibly fast. Torque steer only becomes and issue when you gun it really hard to start once your rolling it pretty much goes away. has a limited slip differential in the front! and software that helps regulate it. Pulls strong through every gear. red lines around 6700 I think but I rarely ever go above 3000 because it hits the 280ft lbs of torque at that speed and continues to pull all the way through the gears. This car is a joy to drive. audio system even with the bose is still lacking.

2008 Mazdaspeed3 GT

by J.A.R. from Southwest, New Mexico (3/28/08)
Pros:Power, Speed, Looks, and Options
Cons:Gas Milage

Sporty, versatile and very, very FAST. This might be my favorite car in 20 years of driving sports cars. It's a bit of a "sleeper", thus I don't get the feeling that cops are watching me or looking for me. The power is there when you are ready to use it, a good radar detector is highly recommended.

Gas mileage is decent, averaging around 26 MPG, most of my driving is highway commuting to and from work. Interior looks very good, but could have used other color options. The trunk is surprisingly roomy and with the split back seat that folds down, very versatile if you need to haul larger objects.

Overall the MazdaSpeed3 is a great car for the price, and lot of fun to drive.

My favorite ride

by Rob from Portland, OR. (3/26/08)
Pros:Excellent performance, stylish, excellent braking and great value
Cons:The ride is great for performance, not necessarily comfort.

The first day I bought this car I felt a little sick. The second day I realized I'd made a great decision.
My MSP3 is by far the best car I've ever driven. It is a compromise between a lot of good qualities, it's fast, agressive looking, but also has enough room to be practical. If you floor the accelerator you'll use a lot of gas, but if you're on the highway taking it easy you can get 30mpg. The ride is so much more stable than any other car I've driven that it gives me chills, I have no lack of confidence when cornering at higher speeds. The value of this car is great as it stomps cars that cost thousands more. The interior is nice to look at, and features like rain sensing wipers and climate control make it a great car that isn't too over the top. You can drive it practically and economically, but if you want to rock n' roll it'll be there for you.

The criticisms that I have are that it does ride stiff, I personally like being able to feel the road, but if you like a soft ride like a cadillac has then this probably isn't the car for you. The car doesn't come with a boost gage which would be nice, and of course there is torque steer, but that is adequately controlled and respectable for a car with 280 ft/lbs of torque.
Overall the pros of this car out weight the cons. It is fun to drive it like a race car, but I can also take my grandmother to church in it without scaring her. I would say though, that this is not a luxury sedan, it's not an economical honda, and its not a supercar, so don't try to compare it to those. It's a compact sport car with a racing edge that it doesn't apologize for.
Bottom line, if you're looking for a car in this class, this is the one to get.

A fast car that's also 100% useable in real-life.

by Jim from Columbus, OH (3/13/08)
Pros:Turbo 4cyl pulls like a small V8, deep exhaust note, surprisingly good ride/handling balance.
Cons:Vague shifter, standard summer-only tires not practical in climates where it snows.

Fun is the key word. The Speed3 doesn't have the biggest back seat on earth, some passengers may complain about how loud the exhaust is etc., but once you drop the hammer the passengers always seem to stop complaining. I'm not sure if they stop complaining out of enjoyment of the acceleration or just out of fear, and frankly I really don't care why because I have tons of fun being in the driver's seat!

Comparing the Speed 3 to cars of similar performance and similar price (keeping in mind that everything available that can keep up with the Speed3 costs $1000s more), the Mazda's 5 door setup is very useful in daily life, whether carrying passengers or larger objects with the seats folded down. The Speed3 gives you most of the performance of something like a Mustang GT while still being able to actually carry passengers without folding them into pretzel shapes in the back seat.

For the money, I couldn't find anything remotely close to as fun as the Speed3 - cars like the Civic Si and even the Subaru WRX seemed way too "tame" in comparison. If I could have afforded it, I would have bought 2 of them - I like it that much.

2008 Mazda SPEED3 Review

by bluce (3/02/08)
Pros:Looks awesome inside and out. Great performace car for the money.
Cons:Gas Mileage is a bit low. Speedometer isn't spaced out enough for low speeds.

I've had this car for a month now and I absolutely love it. The ride is smooth, acceleration is amazing (especially after the turbo charger kicks in), and the handling is great. It comes with some great standard features such as automatic climate control, premium sound system, and 18 in rims.

My only complaints are that the speedometer is so closely spaced that it can be hard to tell how fast your going. Just to give you an idea, the 60 mph tick is where the 30 mph tick was on my old car. I also think they could have done a little bit better with the gas mileage for this car.

See you in the rear view mirror!

by Robmo from Tucson , AZ (2/23/08)
Pros:Fast and great looking and awesome handling
Cons:Stereo needs a little help.

This car is an absolute blast to drive. If I stay out of the pedal I get about 30mpg, if I romp on it for a tank I still end up at 22mpg. The interior is nice and the controls are laid out right where I reach for them. I have beat a BMW M3 and kept up with an M5. The best part is my daily commute to work and getting on the freeway. My old car was a 91 Geo Storm base that was fun but not like the speed3. I did a lot of research before buying and this IS the car to get.

See you in the rear view mirror!

I love the Red Beast

by Denny from Gulf Shores Ala. (2/19/08)
Pros:Great little car, love that 3rd gear punch.
Cons:Rides a bit ruff, but with the power you need it.

Hear so much about poor mileage, boy thats not what I get, at 55 mph I get 33 MPG, at 70 mph I get 30 MPG and at 80 to 85 mph I get 26 MPH, now thats not bad, yes if your foot is in it around town at every light 18 to 22 MPG, MosI think its great and get nice comments from paaser bys at just about every parking lot. My in town milage is usually 25 MPG. Solid not a rattle. Cannot say enuff about the car after 15000 miles.
