Purchased As New
This is my 7th car and 3rd Mercedes in my now 14 years of driving and it is by far the best car I've owned.
I picked the car up in the summer of 2008 at the factory in Germany. In the approximately 3 years and 17K miles that I've owned it I've had no problems. Just like my old '82 240d and '92 300E, the ride is classic-Mercedes. Immediately prior to this car I had an '05 325ci and the C300 is light-years better than that car. With fewer miles than the C300 has now, the BMW had continual problems the dealer couldn't fix, including faulty Bluetooth, loud dash rattles when cold, and apparently un-fixable belt tensioner problems.
I purchased this car because my favorite prior car was the 300E and the C300 seemed to be getting back to basics. That the interior wasn't as nice as an Audi wasn't a concern; the 300E didn't have the best interior. I'd much rather an automaker spend their development money on the powertrain and general mechanical and component quality. Though, the interior in the 2012 is revised.
I average 28-29 MPG on my 20 mile commute that's 90% highway at 70 MPH. It could get worse MPG and I wouldn't really care.
And of course it'll cost more to maintain properly than a Honda or Toyota or etc., but that's something that I knew before buying it and maintenance is not something I will skimp on. Also, compared to the Volvo I owned, the Mercedes have seemed quite more reliable and less expensive to maintain and repair at the dealer.
I can't recommend it enough!
