- Solid, Fast, Tight driving car, Reliable.
- Sometimes choppy ride, some minor electronic glitches
2002 CLK430 Cabriolet. This car is bulletproof. Used for spring/summer driving only, but is still refreshing everytime I bring it out in the spring. Very strong engine/transmission. This model is one of the last generation true Benzes with less electronics/computer intervention than current models. I love the car, it is gorgeous and still attractive....read morehide

- looks great
- quality, reliability, Mercedes does not stand behind product
This will be my last Mercedes. I have a 2003 CLK320, which replaced a 2002 CLK 320 that spent more time in the shop than on the road.
My 2003, started out well, but they do not age well. Four years later, and only 100,000 k on the car, rides rough, sounds awful, had to replace transmission, torque converter.......on, and on and on and on.
It is a beautiful car to own if you only drive it on Sundays for a few hours....read morehide

- Awesome power and handling with sport suspension option, useful backseat, fun to drive!
- No Palm Treo 700wx address book upload, No cupholders in backseat, and glovebox doesn't lock
If you get the CLK550 Cabriolet, the sport suspension option is a "must have". I had mine trucked down to Nor Cal. from Washington State dealer, since it was the only one in the Western USA with sport suspension (for me), run flats (for my wife), backseat side airbags (for our son), and the P3 option (best seats). It has every option except for the power trunk closer. This is the best Mercedes we have every owned, and I have been a loyal customer since I bought my first, a 380 SL in 1982! First one with "Keyless Go", and will order all future vehicles with it because it is so convenient. Solid build, no problems, performs better than last year's AMG model for $20K less, quiet with the top up. Black metallic paint and black soft top with black leather look great - top up or down. I can go 65+ mph in a 25 mph curved freeway exit without the Electronic Stability Control light even coming on. Great road feel. Acceleration on mine is much better than the advertised 5.1 sec 0-60 mph. Can't wait to take it out to the track! I've had it for 4 months now and driven it about 2,400 miles so far....read morehide

- Great looks, awesome engine
- sloppy handling; marginal stereo; terrible NAV; sluggish transmission
The engine on this car is incredible--it is absolutely amazing how fast this thing will go in a straight line. Unfortunately, hit a few twistys, and the smile on your face quickly fades to a frown. This car has one of the softest, sloppiest handling suspensions I've ever seen. On top of that, the 7-speed transmission, although wonderfully smooth shifting, is so slow between shifts that it is almost not worth even having a manual mode--Mercedes needs to drive the 07 Jag XK or the Audi A3 and take a few lessons in how to make an automatic with paddle shifters fun!
The stereo is underwhelming, and the seats are a bit uncomfortable, unless you opt for the P-3 package, which is the only way to get decent (and adjustable) lumbar support. The navigation system is extremely confusing--and slow. I bought a Garmin 660 that I use instead--it is much easier to use, faster, and has many more points of interest.
Having said all of that, overall, this is still a pretty nice car. I have however driven the BMW 335 coupe, and it blows the Mercedes away, at a far lower price--it has better seats, much better handling, and a nicer interior, all at a savings of around $15,000--when the 335 convertible comes out this summer I'm sure I'll be switching--about the only thing the Mercedes has over the BMW is that the Mercedes is, in my opinion, much better looking. If Mercedes would develop a decent fast-shifting transmission that at least matched revs on downshifts, and change the suspension to the ABC that comes on the SL, this car would be a world-beater--if they even just added the ABC suspension, I would pay more and take this car over the BMW---alas, such is not to be--at least not for the present....read morehide

- Great power, handling, an eye-turner. Black ragtop goes extremely well with black body.
- Navigation inferior to Acura; should have rear camera; no lock for glove box; weak fuel economy
The CLK 550 cabriolet is a beautiful, powerful, well-handling car. The ride is tight and acceleration is smooth. It is fun to drive. Mercedes takes a back seat to the Japanese on electronic instrumentation. Acura's touch screen navigation light years better than the MB non-sense. With a smaller rear window on the cabriolet it would seem logical to have installed a rear camera, like the Lexus/Acura but the Germans don't get it. Also, why no locking glove box, it is idiotic for a convertible not to have it. Despite these inconveniences, the car is hot and ready to roll. I doubt re-sale will be a problem!...read morehide

- 2+2 Seating
- Limited rear quarters
This car is a clear winner against its sibling the SLK. It is true that the latter is a 'real' roadster but for the same price it is difficult not to opt for the occasional rear passenger although overall the interior of the CLK is more accomodating. The CLK has a more assertive feel and despite the additional weight feels as if it has better performance. I liked the SLK when it 1st appeared and it has continued to develop but given the choice the CLK is a clear winner....read morehide
