I bought an Australian ML500. A lovely car until I first tried to park it. Creeping forward the beast changes from 2nd to 1st so coarsly I thought I hit something. This happens regularly. A smooth stop is nigh impossible.
One week back (car has less than 1000km / 600 miles on the clock) driving at 80kmph (50 mph) the car slips into neutral (instruments say Drive but engine is not connected to wheels). Happened 4 times in 5 km (3 miles) but works ok before and since.
Serviceman acts as though he has never heard of the problem before. Although he did admit he "found signs if a slippage". Car is held overnight to check levels.
Design flaw with parktronic. When active, pressing the stereo volume controls deactivates the parktronic. Call it user error, but when parking is exactly the time you want to adjust your music volume (down).
Accelerator control is adaptive and very clever, but takes a bit of getting used to....read morehide

- eye catching styling, smooth n quick acceleration, fun to drive, performance
- TRANSMISSION JERKS! pricy options, labor charge for mercedes is CRAZY!
This is my story. well, this is my 2nd 2006 ML500 in a month, the first one had transmission problems. It jerks forward when its at complete stop, it jerks so bad that i almost hit the car in front of mine, and it shakes severely up and down when it stops. I brought the car in 3 times, they told me it was the software issue so they updated it, but it didn't fix it. After the 4th time i brought it to dealer, they told me the reason was cuz of the transmission's electronic control module. Took 1 week to order the part from Germany and installed, didn't fix it. So they decided to give me a new car. The day I got my new car, they told me the problem was the Torque convertor.
Although the dealer is nice and I did get a new car, it was all because they were afraid of me filing the lemon law, so they are willing to switch the car. But, the truth is that the joy and excitment of getting a new car was long gone after the frustration from all the fixing and driving back and forth to the dealer.. However this new car does run well, but still a little bit jerky from 2nd to first gear,(barely notice it) but it can be adjusted by RPM down from 10 to o.
After all, I would still recommand this car because it has really good performance. They should really look into the quality control when they put the parts together in Alabama though.
My only suggestion is "TEST DRIVE THE SAME CAR THAT UR GOING TO BUY"
PS. my first ML500 was the first shippment, the new one i got is the 2nd shippment.
I HOPE MERCEDES COULD HAVE DONE BETTER ON THEIR QUALITY CONTROL, IT'S NOT THE SAME BRAND AS IT USED TO BE....read morehide

- Cool options such as ipod intergration
- No Bluetooth option, electronic gear shift is a nightmare if problem arises
Was never a fan of the original M but thought the new 2006 redesign of the exterior/interior was good. Loved having my Ipod hook up in the glove box and the Sirius radio. The mechanics of the vehicle were a mightmare.
After two months, had to have it towed after stoppping at a stop sign. it would no longer go forward/reverse. Towed another time because of a airbag malfunction. Towed twice within one week due to a gear malfunction that wouldnt let me switch from park into drive/reverse/neutral. There is no emergency override either to put the car into neutral. If the car needs to be pushed out of somewhere so it can be loaded onto a flatbed truck...good luck.
Got rid of the car after 6 months. Got a nasty letter from Mercedes saying that is the reason Limited Warranties exist is to cover such mishaps. Maybe they think in a luxury car 4 breakdowns in 6 months is reasonable...read morehide

- Amazing Reliability
- Whiners who complain about price and small standard engine.
My MErc has been solid as a rock, I drive this baby hard every day and the tranny has not given up in centilla. I don't understand, why would you complain about a tranny problem when you got this beautiful SUV with the 3 pointed star? The external disign is destined to be patented and copied by those second rate manufacturers....read morehide

- Excellent, new generation small SUV with all the features and looks
- Although expected given the price point, a bit austere when it comes to inside appointments
This is certainly an excellent new SUV, that in my view competes not only with BMW X5 but also with Porsche Cayanne....

- GOOD RIDE , GRETA STYLING , GREAT OPTIONS
- SHIFTING FROM FIRST TWO SECOND !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I HAD THE SAME THING THAT HAPPEN TO OTHER PEOPLE THAT BOUGHT THE ML350 2006. IT WOULD JERK WHEN YOU SHIFTED IT FROM SECOND TO FIRST AT STOPING . THIS IS A MAJOR PROMBLEM . DO NOT BUY THIS CAR. I STRESS THAT YOU WILL BE UN HAPPY . I TRADED MY ML AFTER 800 NILES . MERCEDS SHOULD KNOW BETTER AND DO BETTER FOR THAT MATTER . SAVE YOURSELF TIME AND BUY A NICE BMW ....read morehide

- HEED, BUY ONE, NOT THE SMALL ENGINE BUT THEEEE BIG ENGINE
- SIMPLY AVOID THE SMALL ENGINE
GEEZE the small engine is simply not enough for this hefty weight of a CAR. Must get the 5 liter engine or else you're gonna regret it when you see that Toyota Hybrid Highlander dust you. I know first hand. Now you would think that gets me down right? Noooooo, I just LUV my Mercedes M-CLASS. The parent company ChryslerDiamler is bit if a tarnish but hey, in the end, this SUV is a Mercedez Benz, BABY. Prestige, Prestige, Presitige. I can impress the impressionable with a mere glance from the cozzy cabin of my M-CLASS. Looks as good or better than the RX330 now....read morehide

- Comfort, finish, smooth ride, strong engine
- none yet
I'm very impressed with this vehicle. It's pointless to compare it to the previous model, it's an entirely new design and it shows in every way. The cabin is ultra quiet, roomy and the car is fun to drive.
