Traded off a 1998 ML320 we had from new and was totally pleased with it. This led us to consider the new ML320 BlueTec and the ML350. Both cars were the same except for the engine and since we had other diesels in the family we decided to go with the BlueTec. Even though it is a little slow on startup it cruises very nicely on the highway. I have learned to be careful at cruise as it tends to go faster than I think. Before you know it you can be traveling at 80mph in a 60mph zone. I guess this is a testament to how quiet it is.
So far we have had it for several months and just crossed 6000 miles with it. It has a solid feel and is confortable on long trips. I do like the larger fuel tank which was a detractor on the 1998 ML we had. I can plan a solid 650 miles on a tank and this gives me some leverage on fill ups.
It did take a while to get used to the electronics and learn to make the best use of them. The rather large owner's manual took some time to digest and I refer to it often, but I am sure with time I will really appreciate all the ammenities.
I restore old cars for a hobby and I was rather surprised at the location of some filters and engine parts making it rather difficult to change when necessary. The battery located under the passenger seat will be a challange and I want to see that sometime. I will track the cost of scheduled maintenance to see how it measures up to the rest of the diesel fleet in the family.
The AdBlue treatment is new and it appears to work well. I keep two portable containers around, one in the car and one in the garage in case the small tank runs out. The dealer did assure me that it shouldn't run out between routine checks.
So far it has been a great vehicle and if it performs as well as the 1998 ML we had it will be fine investment.
