- Excellent low end torque, good highway mileage, quiet and environmentally considerate
- Diesel fuel has jumped in price since I bought this vehicle - now the same as premium
Purchased As New
I wanted to buy an environmentally considerate car (if buying an SUV can be such a thing) and looked at all the alternatives including the Lexus Hybrid RX450 and the other German diesels from Audi and BMW. After doing my research I found the MB 350 Bluetec to be my best alternative. I discovered that hybrids are more efficient for stop and go driving, but after 30 mph they lose their advantages. Plus, battery life and disposal with hybrids are big questions in my mind. Also, unlike the Lexus and other German diesels the MB350 is assembled in the U.S., something important to me as an American concerned about the continued loss of good paying manufacturing jobs. I also have a MB S550 so have been a fan of MB styling, engineering and quality for several years. The ML350 is not as luxurious as the S Class, but it is more fun to drive. From a dead stop it has the pickup of a V8 while delivering the economy of a 4 cylinder. Plus, 4 sets of golf clubs fit in the back, so my buddies and I can go to the desert to play golf whenever we want without feeling cramped. It's also a great car to go to Costco in. You can load this thing up with more stuff than you will need for a month!
