I really do like my 2009 ML350. It is comfortable and looks good and rides beautifully. Any frustration I've had has mostly been with third party amenities such as the COMAND system which supplies the maps and audio functions. And I agree with a reviewer who mentioned the cruise control is too close to the turn signal/wiper controls. It took me awhile to get used to all the stuff hanging off the steering wheel.
For this price I'd like touch screen map and a better voice command and narration feature. Having the unit read the traffic congestion spots requires a translator as it doesn't understand the abbreviations like "ST" for Street or "DR" for Drive "FWY" for Freeway or "HWY" for Highway. When it calls Main Drive "Main Doctor" it is humorous. And it pronounces "Ave" the latin Ah-Vay. Funny but can make you crazy trying to understand.
Conversely when I try to read a number out loud for it to dial or a street address it is an exercise in futility. And there is no word command it understands to switch it to your iPod. You have to use the manual menu. I have a very clean non-regional US dialect and yet.,...maybe if I had a German accent?
You have to subscribe to Sirius radio to get the traffic reports on your map. I find that annoying as I don't want Sirius radio so it is money down the drain. And their traffic reports are frequently behind and unreliable. I've been sitting in a completely stopped California traffic jam and staring at a map showing the route I am on as completely clear. Grrr.
The car itself has performed well and been reliable. Beyond an occasional squeak from the brake pedal I have no complaints about the car's performance whatsoever.
With large dogs I kind of need an SUV and chances are I will just get a new version when my lease is up.
I've heard the Microsoft systems in the new Ford models are far superior. Maybe we could introduce Mercedes to Microsoft?
(ps. One reviewer said there are no street names given for route guidance....actually if you select the route guidance display window behind the steering wheel it will show you the distance to the turn and the street names. I find it really helpful.)
