First of all where can you sit and compare the Mercedes-Benz S-Class to a Lexus? To a BMW? Lets make proper comparisons and with proper English as someone who drives these cars should. Lets start with the most picked on part of the car, which shows me where you come from saying its ugly. The looks of the 9th generation S-Class come straight from past S-Class models and, the mother of all cars, the Maybach. In affect this car is a baby Maybach. The lines are done in a wave of style to resemble the Maybach from front to back. Look at the tail lights, then put them next to a Maybachs tail lights and tell me what you think. The Maybach and 9th gen S are so similar its amusing. I am appalled at the responses to this car. The only thing I could pick on is the look of the fenders. They are bulky looking in a picture. Stand in front of this car and tell me the same. When you see it in person its only flaw goes away. The rest, the lines, the curves, the headlamps, is all S genes. This car makes perfect sense to be out on the lot. So now lets talk about the suspension for a moment. Its new, and everything that is new needs bugs to be worked out. Having said that, Im not surprised someone had a bit of suspension problems in new suspension. Bring it to the dealer and Im certain its been recalled and theyll fix it, no problem. My first Mercedes was a 1984 190E and it was a little old when I bought it and they gave me a recall just to make sure that it was done. So they are very good about recalls. Moving on to other things. How can someone ligitimately compare this to a Lexus? Mercedes clearly has the mark on this one, with pioneering options such as the satalite navigation (Mercedes first introduced this to the market with the S-Class), DistronicPLUS, 4MATIC, and many more. Lets talk about Distronic, an absolutely AMAZING form of cruise control. This not only keeps your set speed but makes sure its safe to do so. By using a series of sensors the DistronicPLUS system sets your speed, desired distance from you and the car in front of you, and maintains this. If traffic in front of you is slower, the S-Class will slow you down, keep the distance and resume your set speed when able. If traffic stops, it will stop you also, and theres no need to step on any pedal as long as the DistronicPLUS cruise control is set. Does Lexus have this? No they do not. Lets now talk shortly about 4MATIC, first of all how many cars on the market have permanent 4WD and are the same size as the S-Class? None. Using 4-ETS and ESP as a couple they keep an eye out for dangerous driving situations and correct them before you lose control. Does Lexus or BMW have something like this? I think not. No comparison to be made and Ive only shaved the tip of the ice burg. Now we can move on to the variety of engines available on this pup. V8? Or would you like a V12? AMG has done its job by tuning this car into the worlds best performing sedan of its class by using a 6.0L V12 and chiseling the body to be as sharp as can be. V8 would be of most practicality for an everyday jont around 5th avenue but power and limitless exclusivity do prevail in their own ways. Now shall we move on to the interior? The long list of options available on this car will put you in awe. Afterall the average S-Class buyer spends an average of $10000 on just options. Not hard to do in a car that has everything. So Im not too sure who is comparing but this car sits in a class of its own. This car has the beauty, the class, the stuff, and the power to put all of its so called competitors to shame. Even the Bentley Continental Flying Spur lost to the S600 with the 5.5L V12. Doesnt that say something? The magic is captured and is being hogged by the new S-Class and I pity those who cannot see it. So the actual list of competitors would really come around to being, Bentley, BMW 760, Audi A8, hell Rolls-Royce doesnt have the magic that the S-Class has. I would roll in my 2007 Mercedes-Benz S ANYDAY.
