Purchased As New
purchased this car for road trips. Highly satisfying car to drive. Comfort unsurpassed. 4-matic available only on 550, so outfitted one as a "600 4-MATIC" so as to have it all. The rear seat package is very accomodative for long trips.
Nothing domestic can come close to this car for sheer driving and passenger comfort and "spoil factor".

- Pros
- Very Comfortable ride, Beautiful styling, wonderful performance
- Cons
- Nothing so far!
My wife and I traded in my 2006 CLS 500 for this beauty in October and it's been one of the best car purchases we have made. My kids love the extra room in the backseat that my CLS didn't have. The power and the handling of the car is wonderful. The styling is beautiful and definitely demands a double take. The navigation with the knob in the center was a little different to get used to but, since we've figured it all out, we're loving it! Paying an extra $500.00 for the bluetooth didn't make much sense, you would think with a car this pricey it would have been thrown in, but I'm not complaining we're loving every minute of it!! She has her own car but takes mine as often as she can, probably wont be long before she's going to be asking me to buy her one. Couldn't ask for a better piece of craftsmanship and quality for the price!!...read morehide

- Pros
- Great ride, performance, comfort, features
- Cons
- Audio and sound system complicated. Phone and I-pod interface also complicated
This is a very stylish, comfortable automobile. The creature comforts are well thought out and make the car a real pleasure to drive. Performance is quite nice and more than adequate for the roads and interstates in this country. The audio/navigation interface is a bit complicated and requires attention to change it. Sometimes this means not fully concentrating on driving while "fooling" with the knobs, etc. Additionally, the audio should have an easy plug-in for an I-pod, etc instead of having to have an expensive cable installed. Same thing for the blue-tooth phone interface....a very expensive phone attachment is required just to use the blue-tooth on your cell phone. The shift buttons on the back of the steering wheel take some getting used to....read morehide

- Brakes Noise, but so does my LS Lexus,
27.8 MPG Hanahan, SC to Teaneck, NJ.
11,000 Miles in 4 Months
This car is worth the money period
I have a LS Lexus and I like it, but it is no S class
Give me a Maybach and I will sell it and buy an S class and use the rest of the money for gas and travel3 out of 4 people found this review helpful.

- Pros
- avg 19mpg plus in mixed 19city/hwy & 25mpg plus interstate.
The mileage is far beyond rating for my 2007 S-550. A dream ride. I had intended to stop for coffee on a recent early morning trip from Mississippi to South Carolina, but found myself at home before the urge to stop. Drove 495 miles in 6 hrs & 50 min. Consumed 19.5 gallon of gas.
A bit of my grandsons' inheritance well spent.
Still gets new car compliments after 39,000 miles....read morehide2 out of 6 people found this review helpful.

- Pros
- looks, interior, idrive (taken from the 7series bmw)
- Cons
- brakes, the interior buttons (e.g start button)gets hot in summer
Way better than the bmw 7 series and Audi-8 (my friends own them). If you are looking for a luxury sedan, MB S class is your answer. I enjoy driving this car. It also has a video dvd player while the class is parked, i love it especially when i am waiting for my wife while she is shopping.

- Pros
- power, luscious interior, ride
- Cons
- price
Simply the best vehicle on the road. Comand system is very easy to use, much easier than competitors' systems. Engine and transmission are silky smooth and endlessly powerful. Despite being the largest car I've ever owned, it's one of the fastest. I got the Designo interior, which although pricy is irresistably beautiful.
The car gets well in excess of its stated mileage, as did my previous benz. My S550 averages as good as its stated highway mileage of 21 mpg. In pure, 80 mph highway drives I get 26 mpg.
The car costs a bunch, but is worth it.

- Breaks squeak
It is a shame that such an expensive car has brakes that squeak all day long. The breaks of my car squeak constantly, and the worst is that when I took the car to the dealer, they told me that it is a defect that the manufacturer has not been able to correct! So much for a $125,000 car!
Had I known that I would have to live with this problem I would never had bought the car....read morehide8 out of 11 people found this review helpful.

- Pros
- Style here and there; great seating areas good for long trips; quiet; smooth
- Cons
- Horrible fuel consumption!(13.7 mpg) Questionable reliability; Transmission lacks logic & replaced
I admit to being a diehard Mercedes fan and despite all the problems I have had, all the nightmares of being stranded on a cold dark back raod in northern New Hampshire, I have owned 7 in the past 20 years. However this model has changed my perception of Mercedes as a company.
First, the electronic nanny that keeps to in line, takes away from the pure driving experience of Mercedes. Sure the ride is smooth and compliant but ABS and ESP kick in every time it rains no matter how easy I drive.
Secondly the COMAND system is a horror to operate and more complicated than anything on the market except for well, BMW's iDrive and Audi's MMI which need to be thrown out or revampt.
Third, fuel consumption is the worst of any previous Merceds I have owned. The best I have average was on I95 going south with a tail wind and I got 19 mpg going 65 mph. My average all other times is 13.7 and the trip computer show 12.2, but according to my calculations its 13.7. In any event its bad.
Fourth reliability. As I said, Mercedes are not known for reliability. Electronic problems are everywhere. Engine one day starts, the next it decides to take vacation. Transmission with 7k miles was replaced due to various issues. The air suspension needed total replacement and needed 3 days to wait for a part. Sunroon- does not close 100% and needs to be propped up to sit properly or heavy rain will drip in. Wiper motor and sensor both failed at 11k miles. Key fobs deprogrammed twice. HID lamps burned out. Circulator fan shorted out. The list goes on.
In any event, I am fed up with MB and this is my last Mercedes forever. I still love the design and the thoughtfulness that went into making this friendly. The serene ride is the best but take that away and its nothing more than an expensive Hyundai. Sorry Mercedes, you lost me. Going to Lexus or BMW....read morehide13 out of 18 people found this review helpful.
